What is your go-to kit for taking into the mountains when you're off on a big adventure?

I'm in Utah, so dehydration and potentially cold nights can be a factor - most rides start at 7000' and go up. Plus, you can get a 20 degree drop in temp from a thunderstorm in 6 minutes. Other than the obvious things, I have a whistle (first function to go if dehydrated/injured is the vocal cords) a garden plastic bag that rolls up tight but can almost be used as a sleeping bag and something for starting a fire.

Riding a fatbike during norwegian winter really puts bike and gear to the test. Light warm layers is a must. Wool, fleece, down, and shells are in use all year round for me. Winter is challenging for feet, hands, and face/head in particular which is why i always go with wool and/or shell in these areas. You're a fan of Gore Steve, I'm a many decades fan of Patagonia... they both do the trick ;) Lovely spot you guys were riding again!

This video has inspired me to double back on my life as a roadie about thirty years and bring my fitness to the future of adventure riding around the civilized world. Alas at 70, all I can do at this point is admire what the free world enables an adventurous soul to do IF they have unlimited funds and a warrior spirit and attitude. My new goal in life is to buy an eMTN bike someday and pass through the pearly gates jumping a ridge line without a parachute (20 years from now).

I always bring an extra base layer and jersey because even if air temp is cold I generate so much sweat while riding that they get soaked and then cold. Nothing better than being able to swap to a dry ones halfway through. Also a pair of waterproof socks- wet feet can get cold quickly and actually be a risk for frostbite. Having winter riding gloves also key.

I get just as soaked in sweat wearing the GORE jacket, but I like it. I can still pack it away. Any real climbing and it needs to be packed away. I wear electric heated socks a lot, they run for over 8 hours and can be turned off, or turned up as needed.....I like em alot.

I'm lucky to have two ebikes. One with Brose and one with the Bosch CX. For very technical terrain and climbing, I find the Brose is more powerful. Both excellent, but good at different things.

I had watched one of your older videos, I had never ridden an E bike of any sort. I ordered a 2022 Canyon Spectral ON CF8 and its been brilliant! I ride roadbikes a lot, I ride Amish Mt bikes, even my gravel bike at times. But the E is coming into it's own after some trips to ride it in bitchin places. Ive done 55 mile on it with with 4K of climb and had 3 bars left..... I do like Gore's stuff. And I need a jacket, so this one your wearing looks to be the bomb. Being packable is key of course.

Actually we are new to these types of adventure because we are used to ride enduro on " analog" bikes. Now we are looking for these types of locations and adventures and trying to decide what we should buy to do so… and some additional technical climbing training may be needed.

These carefully video'd E rides, are very different than you or me's E-Mt bike rides. Steve loves boost mode! I almost never run boost mode, nor do many guys I ride with. No one carries a battery, yet.

@mauriceperry2165 11 ай бұрын
To be fair - a lot of what EMBN, GCN, GMBN do are basically infomercials and the regular sponsors/ partners whose bikes they ride regularly are going to be featured more often. However there are always features and adventures on other bikes that are tested or provided like the recent ones on the Giant bikes and the Vitus ones.

Breathable gore-tex? I don't think so mate.
@bradsanders6954
@bradsanders6954 8 ай бұрын
True, these GORE jackets can run 250.00 for a 10 oz jacket. They dont really breathe much no matter what an ad says. But as a packable jacket mine works well. I can be swimming in sweat wearing the thing on a climb. (I got mine as new,but used, off ebay for 100.00) still pricey but it works.
@szyszkojad666
@szyszkojad666 8 ай бұрын
@@bradsanders6954Yeah, gore-tex works but only in specific conditions - high temperature and humidity inside, the opposite on the outside but then why would you wear a rain jacket if it isn't raining? I use these membranes practically only in winter in the mountains when it's windy/snowing as the last layer when I need to cut myself off from the weather, they are also pretty good kit for skitouring when descending but I can't imagine having a gore-tex jacket on while performing some high intensity activities.
@bradsanders6954
@bradsanders6954 8 ай бұрын
@@szyszkojad666 A GORE brand gore-tex shell, can weigh 9 oz. And pack really small. The reason to wear it around here is that its winter, it can rain and you get caught out....a shell is always carried on rides or worn ....so why not a water proof shell?...a long climb and a fast downhill, better have a shell or you will freeze. I have no idea how Steve wears his jacket/shell so much, I would be taking it off and putting it back on depending on climbing or descending.
