Klay... I received my Galil Ace gen 1 'Rock-N-Lock' conversion back from Dissident Arms. I love it! Basically, its exactly like yours, with the exception of the earth-tone coating, OEM 16" barrel, and OEM trigger. I actually like the OEM 2-stage trigger. Its a very good combat trigger. I like a little 'takeup' in stressfull situations. Unlike you, I'm not in competition. BTW, I have Geissle and ALG triggers installed on other rifles and I know how good they are. Your video was the primary catalyst in my decision to do the conversion. Thanks!

The Bolt Hold-open requires a new generation of Galil mag. It has an AK type front catch (wraps around the side) and a Green Polymer Follower. IWI sells these on their website now foe use with a new pistol version.

Video suggestion: can you get your hands on a classic Galil and a few of the aftermarket railed or MLOK hand guards out there, and compare them to the front end of the ACE? Sureshot Armament Group (ru), Midwest Industries, and RS Regulate all come to mind. No one seems to have measured them or compared the hand guard mounts, so that DIYers can decide whether (or how) to use modern hand guards on the classic Galil. And since none of this is cheap to do, maybe start with Magpul AK hand guards? IG is full of pictures of classic Galils with modified Magpul furniture, but no one shows quite how to do it. Basically, a video to show the pros and cons to modernize the classic Galil, or work backward from the ACE, to get back the best classic features?

I have a galil sar parts kit on its way. It's cut so that it's got all the markings and can be rewelded. I don't know if I want to do a og looking build or try to modernize it. I love the look of that one. Such a beautiful gun

i dig the old school mag conversion; but I'm not so keen on far less available IMI mags; but I get it. That handguard and barrel shortening is legit AF though. I love my .556 galil (I got a 7in pistol) and one of the primary features I dig about it is the LRBHO and the fact that it takes stanag ar 15 pattern mags. I am a fan of that no plastic look though... can't deny that. Nice rig (like basically every gun you've ever made a video on...lol).

Bro the mags are EVERYWHERE. I just ordered 8 online for 12 bucks each. I walked into a random gun shop last week and they had like 50 of them. 15 bucks each. They are highly available. Apex, numeric, arms of America to name a few.

Think buddy who did the work would make a video showing us homesmiths how much metal to remove etc.? Id be willing to try it, especially if it can still be put back to stock. Howdy Klay! IDK if you still follow this thread, but I'm curious. Do you still think highly of the custom RnL conversion of the IWI Ace 5.56 Gen 1. The reason I asked is that I've just purchased a conversion for my Gen 1, 5.56 'non RnL'. I realize there are now RnL 5.56 factory rifles, but I don't want to spend that kind of $$$, or get involved with SBR paper.

If I could only have one probably the Ace. Built like a tank will last a lifetime and they will probably never be banned from import or stop being imported due to lack of sales. The 106 has already stop being imported so what worries me is parts availability as time goes on. That being said the 106 is most definitely lighter easier to modify and better handling in my opinion.

very nice, i have mine configured this way only it looks more like the variant of the galil ace used by the Colombian military, using the poly lower and magazine catch of the 7.62x39 version. the way it should have come into the country i believe, it's nice to see others do this as well. btw the tapco magazines run great in this configuration.
