Rescues are the BEST choice, whether it’s your first or tenth kitty! Remember, it takes ALL cats SEVERAL weeks to acclimate to their new surroundings. Just be reassuring and give them their space as they try to figure you out. They love being spoken to with a soft voice. Cats don’t like loud noises cuz their hearing is very sensitive. We have Maine Coons. They are a big cat that is also very long. Our cats prefer long litter boxes. My concern would be that buckets are more vertical (tall) than horizonal (wide). building slow trust to show you wont do it again, by sitting close and not touching the cat even when its really close, and they look so cute cats can hit, bite, and hiss, out of fear so you have to show what you do when your mad snd when you’re calm. if you get upset or angry move away from the cat or make a very low throat noise to express anger. You just have to be patient and slow in the meanwhile feed the cat good food like wet and raw fish and treats. The best thing to remember is that animals do not have egos when they do things or hurt us it bc of fear or their natural instincts its your job to teach them how to thrive in your home and you gotta help.
