It also brought some joy into the face of the locals and children when they saw the birdman and his crow. I'm sure you get a ton of messages, but I finally made friends with some crows at my work. Today I stuck my hand out and let them see my very glittery nails. He looked and them and made a very low "ooowaaa" sounding noise twice, grabbed some peanuts I left for him and few away. WHAT DOES OOOWWWAAAA MEAN?!?! Lol I cried I was so happy.

I’ve always hated glittery nails but I’m going to start painting glittery nails now! I so want my crows to love me like I love them 😍 mine actually might be ravens. I haven’t for sure identified them yet but they live on my land and they’re so beautiful.

An addition to the looking at them. I noticed that my adult crows who have known me for more than a year seem to not mind me looking at them from one meter away. The exception is while they are feeding. If I look at them during their favorite activity (taking as much food in their beak as somehow possible) then they often interrupt picking up the food, look at me and wait. The less brave, less familiar crows often fly towards my balcony and turn around in the last moment when they notice that I happen to be looking in the direction of their intended landing spot. The young crows do not even approach food on the lawn while I am looking at them from the balcony (with no possibility to get closer to them) if that food is close to the balcony. I guess crows feel especially vulnerable during picking up food. This does make sense as they are much less capable to watch their surroundings then.

These are great tips. I’m in the process of befriending a pair of crows now. I live on the edge of a small German village and a pair has nested for years in some trees near my house. One of them will fly down and land several feet away to wait for some treats. The other watches from the tree and flies down as soon as I turn my back on the food. They clearly treat other humans differently than me, so I take their trust very seriously. Nice content, thanks for posting.

Thank you! After losing a couple of our dear chickens to hawk predation and learning that crows help keep hawks at bay, we started trying to charm crows into our garden. One day, the hawk was circling above the coop and the crows flew in and started circling there too! The hawks took off! We hear the hawks less and less each day. The crows are not only livestock guardians...they are friends. It will be a dream for them to come close.

This is a really good guide. I want to befriend a crow because I have noticed a crow who seems to follow me around my neighborhood when I drive around and stay near my house. He must live somewhere very near me. I have also seen him and another crow perched on the tree outside my house. They seem to be interested in me and like observing me. I am a very spiritual person and I believe the crows intuitively pick up on that. Like, they can feel that my soul is gentle and want to be near me because of that. This video has given me a lot of hope that I'll be able to befriend these crows who seem to already want to be friends. Thank You!

Great video with great advice. My local crows and a pair recognize me now. It's funny because when I walk outside front of the house and a crow is about 2 houses down they'll come hopping walking over to me. Or if they are in the trees they'll fly closer to me and caw at me. It's a really neat feeling when they trust you.

i’ve been working on 2 crows at my job for a few months now. i started to throw seeds out by the dunpster once i noticed they were there multiple times a week. i’m not in good enough to get close but around 7-8 every morning they come sit on the roof above my door and start cawing. i go out and say good morning and spread their seeds out and sit and watch them eat from afar ☺️ i recently saw a 3rd one join them!

I actually got friendlier with one of the fledglings than the parents this (my first) season. Parents still flee my gaze and will mostly be at a distance in the surrounding trees while I am out. If I have forgotten to feed them (I'm quite erratic, especially now that the parents aren't direct-feeding their fledglings), one of the fledglings can come alone, land on the edge of the roof directly above my head, and do some small-talk. Naturally it pays off greatly when he or she does...

It was actually quite fun to see the fledglings this summer, carelessly walking around the feeding place, being fed and eating themselves, while the parents seemed to focus on trying to teach them to be extremely cautious when approaching the food. Totally understandable behavior, but it shows the fledglings seem to trust my place and my food more than the parents would like. Too bad the fledglings will probably have to find their own territory in another year or so.

When I did the day shift at work I would go outside sometimes. When I saw a crow I’d do a crow imitation & give him some food. I named him Igor. After awhile if I didn’t see him I’d yell his name or do the crow call. He’d usually show up. Once he saw I had food he’d do the dinner call (when crows are constantly making a noise it’s a call to arms call when they see a stray crow or a predator. One time I saw him on a stop sign. When I said “hey Igor!” he followed me from lamppost to lamppost for food. I had to duck in the daycare center for something (that was embarrassing). 1 time the University Police came to my apartment to let me know 1 was hurt (don’t know why they didn’t call). Got taken to rehab center

They are scavengers and healthy protein is scarce in the wild, I used to feed frozen ground pork flattened in a ziplock and frozen, break off chips of it and place in warm bowl of water, Keeps fly away and still irresistible to crows(they love clean water like racoons)

Starting to befiend a crow family in The Park in Rotterdam NL, next to where I work. About 8 months now. Their young is the least shy (perhaps because he knows me the longest, relative to his age). Mom and dad trust me as well but are still afraid to grab a peanut from my fingers. There are several families in The Park, they each have their own territory. There are definite boundries between them. This family I know best also greets me in the morning when I walk to the office (and demand peanuts obviously - "Thou shalt not pass"). I should talk to them more, that's a good tip, I will do that.

I started feeding the crows in our yards nearly two years ago. Now they meet me in the morning for peanuts and follow me to the end of their home area. Then another group of crows pick up on me and come flying for peanuts. On my three to five mile walks I have about four different groups that come and ask for peanuts. Last year and this year babies come up and sit on fences just feed away as I walk past or land on the ground just feet away waiting for the the peanuts. lol. I have to carry a lot of peanuts be able to feed them all now and make sure everyone gets at least one peanut. It's really fun.

Very nicely done presentation. Your sensibility combined with your sensitivity is inspiring. It's very 'life affirming' to know that there are others who feel compelled to establish relationships with wild animals and especially the much maligned crow. I've had a lifelong love affair with these amazing intelligent birds. One of the most incredible experiences of my life was witnessing a murder that darkened the twilight sky. We saw what appeared on the horizon a very dark cloud against the backdrop of a red sunset, moving towards us. We soon realized that it was a murder of crows that were eastbound from Vancouver, B.C. We pulled over to the side of the road and watched as this constellation of birds came in to land on a stand of trees that spans many country roads. I've never seen anything like it before or since. It looked like millions of birds. The sound of wings flapping was like the sound of the sea. The arrival went on for at least twenty minutes. We sat and wondered what event could be so significant that it would attract what appeared to be every crow in the Pacific Northwest! Forgive me for going 'off topic' and keep up the good work!

I had a magpir friend for a few months last year. I found him/her in the grass, as a chick, when mowing the lawn and couldn't find the nest, so I built a makeshift nest on my veranda (porch) and fed it every time I heard it screaming. If it wasn't in the nest screaming at the top of its tiny lungs for food, it was hopping around the porch and in the garden eating bugs or playing with the dogs. Eventually, it figured out how to fly and would follow me and my dogs around when we went on walks, gliding at knee height, I guess it felt like one of the dogs. I knew it was going to leave soon when it was capable of flying 19kms into town and locating my car at work. Sometimes, I wouldn't see it for days, and it would reapear at home looking for food or playing with the dogs, with a flock of magpies in tow. It eventually stopped visiting, but l left the nest outside in case he/she needed it again.

I've got flocks of cockatoos (40 this morning), King Parrots, rainbow lorikeets, magpies, butcherbirds, kookaburras, all eating out of my hands. Most of them will land on me for a feed! Personally I just think it comes down to finding the right food that they go crazy for. They'll take more risks if they think the food is worth it. Funnily enough I can't seem to befriend a crow, as much as I'd like to. I'd say they have long memories and some people hate their ugly sound (understandable- its not the prettiest sounding creature God made) and have probably done things they won't forget.

1. Can I feed well boiled tender pig meat? this in breeding time, as many proteins and no additives. and 2. how about dried dog food, that is always!, all brands are with A, E and D added.. I do not want to overdose with Vit. A, that accumulates in the liver.. How many gramms a day of such dried dog food snack, Vit. and preservatives added!, needs a grown male crow a day to be fully fed, full? as, an US site claimed...that a 740 g male crow needs like up to 360 g a day of food.. that seems too much..what do you think? thanks for all advice in advance. Your videos are excellent, learned a lot by watching and your voice is soothing, no wonder the birds linger on.

Pig meat and dog food is fine. I do not know about the grams per day, I would just recommend to remember, you are not responsible for the full diet of the birds. You are just supporting them. A handful of food a day is enough.

I call all my crows Dandolo. I’ve had a lot of crows some as pets for rehabilitation and all the wild ones now I called them down. I only had one crow they could say his name so clearly but deep voice I’ll never forget that.

Every time I go for a walk wirh my very old half blind dog, i feed the crows. They land very close to us and if I don't give them anything they walk behind us and pull on my dogs tail. Sometimes I forget their food and they fly over my head and kick me which is very scary.😂

4-30-24 It is 8:00 AM this morning I decided to get closer this year to a crow I named last year called duck. He has a notable clack that sounds like a duck this is how we call to each other. Duck, duck, crow is a north eastern American fish crow that lives around water and he knows his name and me. Your video was extremely important and inspiring. I've tried befriending a family of magpies (the eurasian ones). It's really hard. Getting a woodpigeon to eat out of my hand was easy, but corvids here are very cautious. In the end they liked hanging around my house, playing together, even sleeping on my lawnchairs, but they always kept their distance from me. When breeding season ended and the young went their own way they all became even more cautious. Now that it's cold it's also not really fun to sit still outside for long times with food for them too. Maybe I'll have more luck next year.

My husband works on a farm that is about 10 miles from where we live. We also live on a farm, but we don't "farm" so to speak. He says there are crows where he works, but only 10 miles away where we live I have never seen a crow. I would love to get them to come and start living around where we live. Can I also ask, how long did it take to befriend these crows? Your video shows you feeding them in the winter and the summer. Does this take months? years? I would just like to know a rough timeframe we would be looking at before the crows would be comfortable around us and take food from our hands.
