I believe She's machine is industrial with a servo motor. Slays me how very quiet her machines are. Brother and Janome (prob same machine differently branded) are the only two that I know of that have this top cover stitch machine, CV3550 and 3000 respectively. They are both known for being persnickety. I'm waiting and watching. Maybe Juki will come out with a home unit.

You made that look too easy! Lol. I only have a simple/regular, 2 thread (1 thread plus bobbin) sewing machine, could I achieve this with just a zigzag stitch? I’m not a sew-er but I want to try to hem my bootcut yoga pants as I’m tired of the bottoms dragging and getting wet.

You cannot this is called a Coverstitch and requires a special machine, an option you have with your machine is to get a twin needle and do a straight line stitch. That's what I'm doing because a coverstitcher costs $1000+

​@@fouada8656and is not even just a coverstitch machine but rather a more "exotic" top coverstitch. Only Brother and Janome make domestics and they are relatively new to the home market and known to be fussy/primadonnas

How did you fit the original hem from 3+ inches lower on a tapered leg into the smaller circumference of the jean leg?

Hi Shaelynn, did you not need to use an elastic thread for these so they are not tight at the hem? Trying to hem some stretchy leggings and am worried about the stitch popping/being tight when moving in the fabric.

Use a zig zag stitch.

Chuck, yes we use many different types of sewing machines. This one is called a 'coverstitch machine' and it has up to 3 needles and 2 loopers, it sort of a serger combined with a lockstitch but the stitch style 'chains' meaning it is good for stretch materials.

I know almost nothing about sewing, though I have 2 lovely Brother machines--nothing fancy, but one is a pink vintage one. Can you tell me how and why you are using a triple needle foot and where I would get it. I just love this. Thank you so much.

This machine is actually not a traditional sewing machine, it’s called a Coverstitch machine and this foot and triple needle combination is a permanent set up for this style machine. To learn more about it I have a video called ‘How To Use A Coverstitch Machine’

The truth is, the industrial machine I’m using in this video is not at all similar to any type of domestic. Unfortunately, the coverstitch machine is totally its own beast so I will likely need to do a separate video because it’s not about the settings or the brand type such as a babylock and has everything to do with the specific machine itself.

Hi Nicole, in this video we are using an industrial coverstitch machine which is not a traditional sewing machine. There are up to 3 needles and 5 threads on this particular machine. So its not about the foot type either, you won't be able to achieve this style of stitching on a normal straight stitch machine.

Juki sells a home (domestic) version of this machine MCS 1500 and it works quite well!
