I think you are partly wrong on this one. Why should it matter that he is a man? Your gynaecologist is probably a man too right? Men invented period products too right? Aren't young boys part of the problem, and more likely to listen to a man? As for advice on the products and where to get them, shouldn't that be based on known facts not personal experience anyway? Or would you not listen to your doctor on that issue, just because he is a man? Do you really think a man is incapable of giving advice on this issue because of his biological sex? Isn't that just sexist? The only problem here. Is the man is woke. Woke people are simply not qualified to give advice to anyone.

As a single dad to a young woman, my daughter is very aware that I(as a man) am not the right person to go to with questions about menstruation. I told her to call her grandma for that. But I have also made it clear that she needs to let me know if she needs more feminine products so I can get her more. Yes, I keep pictures of the boxes on my phone to make sure I get the right ones. That's as far as it goes for me.
@jbird4478
@jbird4478 2 жыл бұрын
Doesn't that just make it unnecessarily awkward for her? I mean, if you can't answer a specific question you should obviously tell her, but you're making it sound like it's something she shouldn't be talking about with you at all. You could have read up a little bit on it. We obviously haven't experienced it but that doesn't mean you can't empathize.

Can we just take a moment to say that the healthcare industry as it stands is already not doing enough to give real biological women real help when it comes to periods? Any kind of period irregularities or disorders are treated with indefinite use of contraceptives with no consideration for the long-term impacts or how to address those problems when the women are wanting to have children. The massive overprescription of contraceptives is a HUGE problem that nobody talks about, and it's definitely doing some short-term and long-term damage to real, biological women.

Thank you! This is a theme across the world for women. We and our periods aren't taken seriously. If you have excessive cramps and flooding that makes you sick to your stomach every day of your period and disrupts your ability to function and a problem with ovarian cysts being painful on top of that but the doctors at the ER just give you ibuprofen(like I hadn't already been eating the stuff like a whole meal) and tell you you just have bad cramps and to sleep it off, there's a problem with Healthcare in regards to women's health. I've done nothing but struggle with my period since day one and even some female gynecologists are too tone deaf for me to trust and I definitely won't go to a male gynecologist. Saw one once who made me feel bad for asking questions and I've avoided them since.

I'm on the fence about this. While periods are something only females experience, I do like the optic that's not talked about with this--showing men know about periods and normalizing that in a way. One thing that always bowls me over is when it's that time of the month for a woman, and it's a rough one, a man that's close to them just jumping in and grabbing anything that may help (heating pad, hot water bottle, midol, pads or tampons, chocolate, etc.) without being asked. It's unbelievably sweet, and I feel those types of actions will become more normalized with moves like this.

I knew more at a young age than any male around me aside from my poor father lol. I explained stuff to boys at school when they'd split boys and girls up for sex ed. I made COUNTLESS store runs for liners, pads, tampons than any boy my age needs to. I'd either walk or drive because they were embarrassed. I even had to carry supplies in my bag at school and keep spare clothes in my locker just in case. Luckily I sprouted a little early so no one was bold enough to mess with me. I even had to explain to my youngest sister how a pad works because she didnt want my other sisters or cousins to know because some of them hadn't got their period yet. I just told her the information I'd absorbed (pun intended) over the years and told her to talk to mom... "but mom makes a big deal about stuff." "I know but if you don't tell her I'll eventually have too and she'll be upset." And with all that would I apply for this job? Hell no! Nobody wants to hear that stuff from me.

To be completely honest, there’s been times where men have known more (as doctors etc) than women and have had women womensplain to them on all the incorrect assumptions she has about periods. It’s not entirely a bad thing to have a man lead the way on this …”issue”?… just so long as he knows more than the average women. He shouldn’t be leading the way as a spokesman though, he should be sending capable teams out to spread the messages. One man/woman can’t cover the entirety of that country so you’ll have to break it into teams anyways. The problem is, what exactly would the “message” be? Is it about sanitary pads and all the varieties? How to use them? Because if it’s the above, a man can’t really help in that regards, unless it’s a poorly funded school who only has one s*x Ed teacher. Are they teaching about cycles? How and why they happen? Well, there’s s*x Ed for that specifically. Unless the schools doing an inadequate job…. Well if the schools doing so poorly the money should be given to the schools to teach better, not a period campaign There’s honestly no reason why this would be needed because it’s a family and school matter. If you actually teach better in schools there won’t be issues. But why give funding to schools, they’re completely unimportant

I had a cantankerous grandfather who once told me, "Jack, never trust anything that bleeds for five days, and doesn't die." The whole term "mansplianing" is ridiculous. I could almost understand it if a guy is explaining something to a woman something she already understands. On the other hand, I had a female friend, the check engine light came on in her car. She didn't know anything about cars, and didn't have the money to take it to a shop, so she came to me. Took it to the auto parts store, hooked up the OBD, which told me cylinder 1 and 4 were having issues. Inspection revealed the plug wires were shorted out. I also noticed she desperately needed an oil change, and a new air filter. She at least had the money for the plugs, wires, oil & filter, and air filter. (Luckily, I have an "in" with parts guy, he gives everything at cost) While I was doing the work, and she was handing me tools, I explained what I was doing, and why. Point is, if you don't know something, or understand it, ask someone who does.
