I am a math teacher. I had a student, she was like 12 or 13 at the time and was confused about her gender. She came out as trans and started going by different pronouns and a different name. This straight up broke my heart. I had no problem calling her a nickname and luckily there was no problems with pronouns or anything. Also two of the other teachers were like were celebrating her coming out, which as teachers, is not our job. Anyway I thought of a metaphor for it. If someone is having trouble with something like adding and subtracting fractions, you don’t tell them they are doing a great job if they are wrong. You help them figure it out. You don’t tell them the answer either, you simply help guide them to it so they can figure out how to get there themselves in the future. It’s a similar thing with gender. You shouldn’t reward someone for their confusion. You should, like math, teach them how the facts work. Teach them how important it will be down the road as it will affect the rest of their future.

The name thing caused a lot of confusion at my school. Parents were accusing teachers of "deadnaming" when class photos or tests came back with a certain student's birth name written down. It's a conundrum because the school is supposed to use the student's legal name (typically the birth name) for identification and records, but they also didn't want to encourage parents to actually try to legally change their child's name to something from the opposite gender because nobody wanted to even touch that political fireball with a 10-foot pole.

As a teacher, YES you can love your students like they are your children but it is vital to remember that they are not really your children. You do not have the final say over their education. That is and always has been the parents' right. Recently, my 7th grade classes have been bringing up the topic of gay marriage in my math class. We are a catholic school. Personally, I don't have a problem with gay marriage BUT the church does. So instead of pushing my beliefs and then telling the kids to keep secrets on my behalf from their families, I spoke to the administration about the issue and we arranged and informational meeting with the school priest who has thorough knowledge of doctrine. Families were informed of the event date and could choose to come or decline and could leave if they wanted to or ask any question they wished. And wouldn't you know, we had parents thanking us for arranging this and not leaving it to just the teachers to make decisions on sensitive topics. After that, parents went home, talked with their kids and the students have never brought up the topic again. They have learned that I am not their mother, contrary to what their social media feeds tell them, and I cannot and will not teach them about things I am not authorized to teach.

I just invited families to my classroom to watch them do readers theater plays on topics such as choosing a pet, making dinner for mom, and other topics that encourage them to improve their fluency. Then we had lunch and watched Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. After lunch we did a STEM challenge and built fishing rods. I had about 5 families, but wished more could have been there. I don't know about the camera thing, simply because minor children are vulnerable and such footage can be retained or stored in ways that it shouldn't be. If schools can film students in school with any amount of discernible detail, it also erodes concepts of consent, which was the one moral barrier to cyberbullying. Kids also do and say embarrassing things while growing up that they wouldn't want coming back to bite them in the ass later; in a time of cancel culture, a world where everything is recorded from kindergarten up might not be so great, after all. I do think that there should be more monitoring of teachers, though. Politics, sex and religion are not appropriate topics for teachers to be discussing with students, and parents should have a right to know what's going on in these places.

I remember when I was in school teachers would talk about themselves so much. I hated it! It felt like they were cheating us out of giving us information that would ultimately be on the test. Often times they would go on long tangents about their personal lives and waste 30 mins out of the 60 we had in their class but would STILL give us tests about the information they forgot to teach. Sometimes they would even forget that they never taught us the information and would argue that they did because it was written on their lesson plan…

I often talk to parents and give positive notes (not verbatim he said she said) about how their students are doing in large or small group or their character in general. This thought process against homeschooling is taught by those who want to pretend parents are most often the primary source of abuse toward a child. As we see, though: they are not. Parents around the country are sending their kids to be psychologically conditioned and groomed for certain sexual behavior in public schools. This, is abuse.

@@ralphpierroii4626 Definitely not true. Not every kid gets to go to church or play sports or whatever else. When I say I had nothing, I mean nothing. I couldn’t tell you most of my neighbor’s names. I literally sat at home for weeks on end with my parents and honestly most of the ex home schooled kids I’ve talked to as an adult have similar stories. Also…going to the grocery store once a week and walking behind your parents is not socialization. I should know, that’s about the extent I got out of the house through most of my teenage years lol. It did nothing for me. This is a real issue and I don’t know how to fix it because more government involvement is almost never the right answer but isolating a child to the extent me and many others were should not be allowed. I was miserable and I’m still trying to figure out how to talk to people and navigate the world in my 20s.

I think anyone doing homeschooling should be in a group like that, it helps a lot with socializing, and other parents can help with teaching things that others have trouble with. My mom and dad are more tuned in to my interests, more aware of my problems, more understanding of my feelings and emotions, and know precisely how to take care of me. Why would I want to spend 7-9 hours every day apart from them? That’s self-deprivation, if you ask me. I want to be with them as much as I can until I move out and start a life of my own. Longer, I was suspended from 4th grade, 1967 ish, for fighting. What actually happened was a group of 5 girls got off the school bus at every stop waiting to jump me. The black driver was a friend of my Dad's who was a school janitor and every stop (they of course got back on when I didn't get off) told me to stay in my seat. Mr Reddy kept fretting because we were nearing the final stop where he would have to get me off. At the last stop I stood to exit and saw my Dad running across the town Green. Mr Reddy had radioed the depot, a bus driver had run almost a half mile to the school where my Dad was working and he drove then ran to escort me off the bus. The next morning we had to meet with the Principal who said "I'm going to suspend Pat because there might be a race riot if we suspend the girls." I think the only thing that kept me sane was that the evening of the incident my Dad asked if I wanted to thank Mr Reddy. I said yes and in Curly Reddy's basement bar I listened to these 30 something blue collar men, one black one white, commiserate about what was happening. A year later, 10 years old max, I was struggling with math and my mother told me he was a first year teacher and wouldn't help because he was "afraid" of me because I was "so developed." Oh and the same girls from elementary school ran up behind me at recess and threw a brick at my head. 🤐 I was out of school by 15 and had to wait until 1977 to sit for a GED. More than 50 years later I'm grateful that my mother being a nut case protected me from the indoctrination. But my heart breaks for children today because if they're in public school there are few supports that know and will discuss the lunacy like my Dad and Mr Reddy did, in front of children. 😭 So we're three generations in, at least.

The PA system in class rooms are 2 way and Principals use to monitor different class rooms. They can be set up so they make no sound and mute the principals mic so you can listen at any time.

Just sayin…..there’s some of us public school teachers out here who adhere to Christian values and are fighting against the woke path. Not everybody in public education is corrupt. I’m still fighting here in AZ.

Not only do I not remember any of my teachers (LESS THAN 10 YRS AGO) not sharing their personal lives, but I remember that they would actually WORK HARD TO KEEP IT SECRET!!! I remember it was a huge deal at our school when we found out one of our young female teachers was married. One student found her on facebook after deep searching and found out her first name and her husband and it was everything we were talking about for at least a week. NOW its- its just amazing to me. Our teachers needed no validation. Our teachers were just there to teach, and it was up to our own families to help us grow politically.

I'm planning on becoming a teacher and this is the reason why.Teachers are some of the first persons that influence them. What those teachers are doing is just wrong.

It’s stunning they are so brazen in posting this stuff, but we sincerely should be thankful for it. I dunno their true motivations but we SHOULD know they’re doing these things and these dummy teachers have been the ones to mostly inform us

i am so glad that where i live there is a school that doesn't allow this type of stuff. They even do a lot of stuff that schools don't do now. like praying, Bible study clubs, etc. the school is even connected with our church and do a lot of school activities involving the church. And the kids don't have to do it if their parents don't want them to. They aren't forced to do anything they would feel uncomfortable with whether it be the parent or student. And it's a public school which is honestly shocking. I'm very thankful that my little sister can go to this school and not have all the woke agenda shit that is at almost every other school.

That’s strange. School and religion should be separated. I’m glad it is in Texas.

@@Hhe448 well like I said, the students don't need to participate in any way with it if they don't want to. It's their choice, which I think is important because it's not being forced on them at all.

I am forever grateful for the sacrifices my parents made to send me to a catholic school. I remember wanting to go to a public high school and they would not let me, and I'm so glad they didn't now that I see all of this bs happening in public schools

I am so glad you are speaking up! As a retired teacher, I totally agree with you about all of these agendas, etc. I am so grateful that I'm no longer in the system! But with regard to picture books beyond 3rd grade, there are so many that are rich with language and great for teaching figurative language and vocabulary, etc. They are a great teaching tool when used properly along with chapter books.

my parents really encouraged reading books when i was a child. now teachers are complimenting my creative writing skills, my reading comprehension, and i was always above in reading level. they didn’t care what i read as long as i read and it was age appropriate
