I got the AVRI tremolo and arm (it has a notch in the arm and clicks into the collet the teeth on which don't do much job). It doesn't sound like that. All I did was the notorious hammer trick (creates more contact between the arm and the collet and eliminates that annoying little rattle) and that's it. I like it much more than my stock Squier 40th anniv Tremolo. Very smooth and silky

@@mehabox Yeah I think I was unfortunate with how squeaky mine is! I'm sure the hammer trick works very well, but it only costs about £5 more to get the Staytrem arm/collet in the UK Vs buying the AVRI arm and AVRI arm tip separately 😊 The AVRI is great and although I concluded in the video that the Classic Player is better, I have now had some longevity issues with the Classic Player but I haven't had any further issues with the AVRI .

Excellent content, my friend! You, Fuzzlord, and Mike Adams are the only channels that fully understand what we do with our offset guitars. ❤

Great video! Great playing! Use manual white balance to remedy the flickering.

Thank you, Naoki! I will definitely try that next time - nobody has mentioned it before, but the flickering is really annoying and I didn't know how to fix it. 😅 Hope to see you next time!

5:56 I've got an AVRI tremolo with the avri wammy bar and i don't have any click sound like that...it looks like the same horrible sound on my classic vibe jazzmaster :/ An other point that i have discover, every tremolo dont react on the same way if you change the neck or the bridge. For exemple, the avri tremolo react badly with a mexican standard 2015 that i have. But i change the neck for a 2012 classic player jazzmaster and the response was day and night. It's the same way for the bridge: if you try a staytrem, japanese or american vintage with de same tremolo, with the same neck guitar the sound response and playability will be very different. So for me, in conclusion , there is no A better tremolo for all offset guitar but a tremolo and a bridge that will feat better with the neck than an other.

It's much more of a squeak or a creak - it isn't a click! But yeah, I was disappointed... I think some lube would probably fix it but I feel like the top of the line Fender unit should work properly out of the box...

Nice comparison. Both the CP and Am Pro (I) trems (that have screw-in arms) have a grub screw in the bottom of their threaded collets that allow you to adjust the resistance on the arm. Although most people just stick with the default setting (many possibly don't even know that the screw is there). Having to take the trem off to adjust the screw is obviously rather impractical. But you can play with it off the guitar. The CP's screw takes a 2.5mm hex key (not 100% sure about the Am Pro's). But I believe there is also something within the collet between the arm and the screw. So the effect of tightening the screw does not seem to be very direct or dramatic. But I wonder if it might be able to achieve a similar effect to your spring/shot mod ?

Hey mate, yeah that's right - although weirdly, if you buy the Am Pro 1 arm/collet as an aftermarket part, it doesn't come with the hex/grub screw in the bottom of the collet, you have to buy it as an aftermarket part and it's not available in the UK or Europe! I just bought a generic grub screw of approximately the right size to put in my Am Pro collet. The way the Tremolo Arm Tension Spring works is that it pushes back against the Tremolo Arm as it gets compressed in the collet, and this spring-loaded tension against the bottom of the arm is what holds it nicely in place. The addition of the shot/ball bearing in there makes there less space for the tremolo arm to go in, so increases that pressure and the hold on the arm, and also eliminates the binding of the arm against the spring. I'm not sure that the grub screw in the bottom of the collet can do the same job - although if you put an arm tension spring in there, the hex screw in the collet can definitely be adjusted to change how much the tension arm spring gets compressed inside the collet. I have experimented with this on my Am Pro trem 😊 Although the hex screw in the collet changes the amount of space for the arm, it doesn't add that tension/pressure of the spring to hold the arm firmly in place. Does that make sense? Well spotted though - most people probably don't notice or experiment with it at all!

Hi Mark, thanks for all the effort you put into these thorough reviews. Can I ask your advice on which trem creates the least amount of metallic ringing/vibration? I’m going to use my Jag for recording and I’m trying to reduce those metallic frequencies as much as possible. Thanks man!

Hey mate, thanks so much for the kind words! 😊 Do you mean the jangling of the strings behind the bridge, rather than the mechanical noise of the trem itself? Or are both an issue for you? In terms of mechanical noise, in my experience the Classic Player is definitely the best there. I think the AVRI can be taken apart and lubed somewhere to get rid of that awful grating sound, and it might be just as quiet then. I've been putting off doing that for months until I'd made this video! If you listen to the plugged in AVRI tones in Round 3, you can hear the mechanical noise of the trem coming through even when the guitar is plugged in, which is kinda crazy! In terms of behind the bridge jangling, I can't say I've noticed a massive difference between the tremolos! The stock Squier trems definitely vibrated and buzzed with vibrations from the strings, but none of the trems in this video do that. I think a bigger influence on the jangling behind the bridge is bridge saddle geometry. The wider the contact point on the bridge saddle, the less jangly the behind the bridge ringing should be. I hope that helps - but let me know if I've completely misunderstood your question 😊

Thanks for the comparison. Did you ever try the goldo tdg1jm? It is a bit of an odd duck with the two point pivot instead of a knife plate and the 50mm string spacing is a bit narrow but the duesenburg style arm gives a lot of extra adjustment options.

I've never tried it, but it's been on my radar for a while. I'd love to try one! If it was like €60 instead of like €90, I'd be very tempted to get one for my next project. It seems basically like a Fender Bronco trem, which is cool. I didn't realise the string spacing was 50mm, thanks for the info! I think I'm gonna try the new offset tremolo from Trent Guitars in the UK for my next project - but if I see the Goldö for a good price I'd snap one up 👀
@rivulus
@rivulus 8 ай бұрын
@@MarkB.Guitar I should mention that where a standard JM has the ball ends at the back the strings leave the goldo at the front, so the 50mm spacing is about where at a JM trem the collet is located.

@@rivulusAh sure, makes sense - thanks for the explanation! I've just had a quick look and they seem to be sold out everywhere except Australia 😕 I know Drew from Walsh Guitars uses it though and says it's a great alternative to a Mastery. He told me it's pretty phenomenal and he uses it a lot and that it has a good amount of range. Maybe I'll get to try one one day!

I got the avri. I like it but i have my trem arm taped up for my bloody valentine style playing. Prefer a non threaded arm.

The AVRI is great and I know they're not all as squeaky as mine! I've never been and to get the MBV style playing/strumming down, it always feels so unnatural to me to have the bar in my hand whilst playing. Any tips? I can see that for that style, a non-threaded arm might be better. I really like the "Spring and Shot" mod as a very cheap way of getting a very snug and practical trem arm with a threaded arm though 😊
