Sam, you are correct. I have been lasering for 3 or 4 years now, and I just kinda shoot from the hip when setting the speed and power. Most of the time, I get it spot on. And some time, I make a learning experience. 😂 A few weeks ago, I 3D printed an ornament holder for someone so they could laser engrave on ornaments. I guess I should make one for myself. I have some ideas floating around in my head for some laser engraved ornaments to make this year. The great thing about this hobby, or small business, is that there is a lot of talent out there and the demand is high for personalized ornaments. Just a side note, Scroungers Paradise did not get destroyed by the hurricane. They are open every day.

I just started doing these also on my regular F1. What worked for me on a 2.5" ornament is... I did image size 1.7". First pass Blue Light, 60% power, 700 speed, 300 DPI. A second clean up pass with IR at 100% power, 400 speed, 300 DPI. Also I was fighting with the paint. My best option so far is to paint the inside with a Q-Tip. You can just dab it on the engraved part and also bend it to get to the hard to get places. May not work for everyone but it's working for me.

Great video Sam...My experience of have doing hundreds of christmas balls si, yes blue diode for the win,and next paint inside (arcrylic) DO NOT ADD WATER to your paint it will flake off when dry,your customers will not be happy...To spread the paint is to tap the ball in the palm of your hand,and after that when it's all spread out place your ball upside down (opening towards bottom to let out the excess paint and let dry 24 hours or you cah speed up the process with a heatgun (blow in small bursts through the opening of the ball)...
@Samcraftcom15 күн бұрын

@ropeany115 күн бұрын
If you dilute your paint before you put it into the ornament and then instead of shaking it just roll it to slush the paint around the inside you'll get a much better result. Then you can pour out the extra paint and let them dry.

@danhalpert228415 күн бұрын
Thanks for an other great video. Have you tried to use masking tape when you laser the ornament and then use the remaining tape as a paint mask, spray paint should give you a good contrast. Of course that makes it look lie you just painted the exterior of the ball. This sounded better in my brain than when I wrote it down. :)

Great video as always! Would it be possible to make a video on the glass ornaments using a diode laser with or without a rotary for those that don't own a Xtool F1 Laser machine. Thanks

@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy14 күн бұрын
Ball holders! 🤪 I'm wondering why you painted the mirror finished ones. Why not just focus on a regular flat one of the same size? Have you tried painting the outside? I would guess the paint would wipe off the finished surface while adhering to the ablated area.

I love this video and eager to get the jig. I had a quick question and it may be a dumb one. I am still new to laser and everything so here goes. I do not have the f1 yet. I have the tool s1 d1 pro and p2. I was wondering if this will work on a honeycomb using the magnetic clips on these machines? Eager to learn more from your videos.
@Samcraftcom10 күн бұрын
There are three main considerations for using this jig on a different laser: 1. Do you have a way to secure the jig base to your laser securely? 2. Do you have the vertical clearance for this jig and the ornaments to fit? 3. You will need to work out the software side for alignment.

You're a mean one Mr. Grinch. I'm wondering if diluting the paint with a bit of water prior to adding it to the ball would help. It would flow easier and use less paint; as long as you didn't dilute it so far that it didn't give consistent coverage. Also, do you have any Black Friday discounts coming up? Thanks!

What about bending a pipe cleaner to match the curvature of the ball, put in the paint, stick the curved part of pipe cleaner inside, then use a power drill to spin the pipe cleaner inside.

You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch!! Question, is the curved surface processing mode only for the Ultra? I have the F1, it is not showing the curved surface and I have the latest version, according to my Checking Updates and matching it to what is showing on xTool's website. Help?

I don't use paint anymore on any mirrored surface for laser engraving. I use a powder puff and talcum powder. The same stuff that every grandmother had with her cosmetic stuff. I picked up a cheap gift set at the local dollar store.

That's a great tip! I've never heard of using talcum powder before, but it makes sense!

@@Samcraftcom First off, you do some really great videos! Thanks for all the tips I have used from your videos. Hope this is a tip you can use. Again thanks for all the helpful tips you have posted over the years. Roy

For the paint, why not use an unused ornament holder to lay it on its side since glass is difficult to coat? I imagine finding the right consistency for the paint will help as well.
