Number 1 Armor Perk pretty much across the board is now Health, especially for tanking. Aside from that, I think Grit Ward is looking great... then personally I'd go with weapon ability perks and refreshing... although I think refreshing move debatably makes refreshing less necessary (depends on spec, playstyle, offhand, and other factors) Aside from that here are my general thoughts about mutation tanking in New World post-expansion. 1. Mutations have rotating elemental damage and often have quite a bit of elemental damage in general. My Idea to get around this is to collect an Amulet with resistance to each mutation type (Nature, Ice, Fire, Void) with the matching cut pristine gem. ALSO I am going for a tower shield with each resistance, plus the Sturdy Perk. If you get both a shield an amulet with each element type, you can then decide for yourself whether you want to slot more physical or elemental resistance on the rest of your gear, but you shouldn't have to swap out Gems each week. I'm going to run some combination of Opals, Onyx, Malachite, and Diamonds depending on how much Physical versus Elemental Damage reduction I think I need. ALSO - shield does NOT count toward gear score, so if your shield is like 680 you'd probably be fine using it in an M3. 2. I recommend Sturdy Energy somewhere - Personally, I'll probably put it on my chest because of my plan with the shields...I think it's enough to worry about sturdy + elemental resistance on the Tower Shield. Hopefully down the line I'll get a consistent 3rd perk to fill out my build, but for now the 3rd perk is just not going to matter compared to the other two... and Sturdy Energy can go on Chest.. maybe other slots too (can't remember exactly which slots, but chest for sure). 3. I am NOT replacing my sword with a flail. The blocking between attacks is not as reliable (attack animation is longer), plus the overall flail damage is way lower (and group damage if you run left side sword). Flail can be a good offhand, I especially like Barrage as it lets me run through enemies and taunts them along the way, plus warding bludgeon is a good taunt with a relatively short cooldown. I'm actually going to try Greataxe now that Maelstrom also has a taunt effect... between grav well, reap, and maelstrom I think I'd get some good options to group mobs together, and a nice weaken if I can get an axe with weakening maelstrom. 4. BIS Weapon is pretty much available via the seaonal rewards in a roundabout way. You can earn enough "Dense Lazarus Materia" from the seasonal reward to buy Stalagmite, which is a sword that comes with Hated and Enchanted... I'm going to add refreshing move to this. This debatably makes it BIS for a main tanking weapon (Eventually you might want different perks, but this is a great option early in the expansion and absolutely well worth spending the materia and upgrade mats for this weapon IMO). 5. Ideally I'd want Hated on my shield instead of my sword, but I think with my plan to get elemental resistances high I'll have to put hated on my weapon(s). I'm a big fan of Hated... need to be able to pull aggro quickly sometimes when there's no taunt up... I also run despised on my earring always for tanking... sporelight earring I think is my BIS - nimble, despised, plus 1 I get to pick. FYI I do NOT think the artifact Lost Stopwatch is an adequate substitute for Carnelians because even though triggers the taunt component form gems, it doesn't add the extra hate, which is very much needed when you're in heavy and running 300+ CON. 6. I Don't disagree with the video about the Tanking sets he mentioned, however, I think health is SOOO much better than any of the other perks, and the upgrade mod for health is insanely priced, therefore, I would take anything with Health and 1 other decent perk over most of these gearset pieces until you can put health on these set pieces. Earring - I am trying out Healing Heart instead of Refreshing Toast. Half the time if I drink a pot, the animation dropping my shield forces me to take as much damage as the pot heals, so instead I'm gonna heal 10% health on heartrune activation. I run Vines (for now) and I usually hit it when I need as much survivability as possible, so it seems like a pretty reliable way to go. 7 ARTIFACTS: IMO for Armor I want Void Darkplate. The Wall is potentially good and some players may prefer it, but I think dodging is more valuable than blocking against many attacks. I am running Freedom (heavy pants) for now because that's what I have. I was using the Attuned Leather Pants, and the stats are nice, but it's lower armor and I wasn't getting any Heavy Armor Pants to drop while I was wearing them, which was kinda frustrating. You can run 300 STR/300 CON or 250 STR/350 CON or whatever you prefer without the Attuned Pants. With Attuned pants I think you can also get 25 dex and 25 focus along with 300 str/con.. but I'm not sure since I stopped using them as soon as I got Freedom. For Jewelry - this one's kinda tricky... I like my earring with Despised. I like elemental Resistance on my amulet... as an aggressive tank... I might not use an Artifact in my jewelry but then sometimes swap in Blooddrinker ring when I need more self healing over the damage (with Hated and Despised I think the damage loss would be ok). For Weapons - Odo if you add a Gem slot for taunting is a good offhand. I think the Sword is better used in pvp or dps, not tanking. Many of the Artifact weapons cannot have a Gem slotted, so it's kind of limited. I put a PVP perk on my Odo, so I probably just won't run an artifact weapon.... maybe in time I'll swap ODO for tanking instead of PVP, but that's TBD.

made a full grit ward set and use it to tank mutations, can confirm that it is a very powerful set. i can just spam attacks and ignore almost all attacks. this combined with refreshing allows me to spam stuns with my hammer for mobs and use my sword for leadership buffs during boss fights. Make sure u have refreshing move on hammer and the perk that gives extra dmg when u have active grit. it's literally impossible to die in m1 and m2. 20k+health and insane damage mitigation. Your dds have a very good time attacking mobs since they r pretty much perma stunned. ideally i'd like to get the spark of mjolnir, the wall and the lost stopwatch artifact. i feel like this with grit ward and refreshing and your weapon perks will make u unstoppable.

@tounsiforlife2317 I'm concerned about the spark because you can't slot a carnelian and I don't think our damage alone is enough to hold aggro but it'd probably work most of the time with the stopwatc and refreshing move. It'll be interesting to see how all of this plays together once a little more time is passed.

We are facing this issue currently. Is the crystal azoth set usable in m3 without health perk? They are 70k each so we are adding none of it. Would like this youtuber to please chime in. The only other option we have left is woodgrain with HP + elemental aversion. Please if anyone has any info please chime in we have scoured online with zero info for tank gear.

@@tokyodrifttt IMO Health and one other decent perk is enough to get started. I've gotten through M3's with that much, but admittedly not had a gold. I think the current challenge is using proper weapons to overcome the 75% rend/weaken reduction on M3 bosses more than getting your armor perks just right.

I know it is far from meta but I have been enjoying taking with SS Fire Staff! tons of dps and the fire staff has a pretty great taunt on it also. Yeah it’s not meta but it’s so fun! I would love to see a video of some fun tank builds, rather than SS / WH all the time haha! but great video man!

Does anyone know what the stopwatch artifact will do? Based off the vague description I assume it means no carnelian gem will be needed to taunt ads...but then you would lose all that threat generation from not slotting a carnelian gem. Wouldn't that just make this artifact pretty terrible and counterproductive for tanking?

I dont understand something , if i can not have more than 4 refreshing perk on my gear why would i get the sets you suggest. They all have refreshing on every armor piece. Do i have to mix them or what ?

I have some build examples on my website and you'd only use 4 pieces of the sets listed with one artifact so you would only end up with 4 refreshing pieces still.

Depends on if you Wana do pvp or pve and what pvp content you are doing Pve = 150 con 450 STR or a STR/Dex split War - 500 con/100 foc OPR - 500 con/100 foc or 300 con, 250 STR 50 foc 3v3 - 200 con/ 400 STR Open world pvp - 400 con/ 200 STR With some variety in between. For m3s I prefer 50 con tanking but that's just me.

yeah i just tried it, with full magnify gear around GS 690 - 700, the most even number is around 277 str and cons. maybe if i want to reach 300 each, i have to use food buff, havent tried that

Yes 100%, magnify gear can actually be more difficult to use when you try to balance your Attributes

Its good but you can’t dodge and really dodging is a huge part of Tanking since you can’t block more than 2-3 hits before you run out of Stamina

You lost me when you said to add sundering shockwave to the hammer. I’d suggest going with sundering clear out for the extra rend that it provides, especially since they changed how tend functions in higher mutations

Well, Clear Out with the rend perk is better for bosses, but you don't want to have your DPS get a pack of trash mobs all pulled in tight and then do a knockback on them. IMO, Shockwave is the better perk for that reason.

Upgrade gear is not worth it. 15k plus maybe another 8 to 10k if you can't craft the matrix. That's so stupid compare to the umbrella shards. Doing muts gave you everything you need to upgrade before, now you have to spend 15k no matter what on one item to upgrade named stuff if you need it in your build.
