The Astros keep the stadium roof open during the day leading up to game time because they need to for the field. It's real grass, so it needs sunlight, and not enough gets in through the windows. They'll usually shut it a few hours before the game if they're going to. With the massive HVAC system in the stadium, it doesn't take too long to cool it off. "Some idiot threw it back." Astros fans are surprisingly knowledgeable and conscientious. Unlikely, but they might have thrown it back knowing it was his first homer with the Rays.
