So random, i sent these guys an email about this exact unit last week cause i want one for my G6 FG mkii, no one had any videos on it. So glad you made one on it. I wnated to get the aerpro facia kit and a headunit but it looks crap compared to this, it still keeps that stock look and adds features. Time to save up for one. Great video 🤙🏻

Mine worked fine for 7 months, then recently it decided to crap itself. V5 too. First it started to crackle audio, almost like a electrical fire sound. Then the screen started to fade and lines came up. It feels like it overheats, the screen turns off. Also had issue with their external-microphone, it was such low quality, i couldn't retain my original microphone setup. I got a sound system working, had to tweak audio and eq settings to get the sub to actually have bass. We'll see if I'll continue to use it..

Yes it is , unfortunately no CD player anymore, I’ve put all my CDs onto the computer and then onto a hard drive and into the headunit ! Saves me swapping out / potentially scratching disks and stuff

I just bought a MkI XR6 as a new daily without thinking of the fact it doesn't even have Bluetooth. Been looking at these but remembered all the bad reviews they had a few years ago. This makes me feel better about wanting one haha my old Foz was easy to put android auto in so I'm glad there is a good option to get android auto into the falcon. My MkII XR6T has factory Bluetooth so didn't even think about the fact the MkI's didn't get Bluetooth for music on my 4 hour drive to work each week 😑

Nice man , I think you can also just get Bluetooth adaptor that plugs into the back somewhere , that could be an option for you aswell , but this upgrade is amazing with the maps and stuff

Can you plug your phone in directly to charge plus for Apple car play. my iPhone drops out through Bluetooth say nav in bad reception but if plugged in directly to head unit I’ve never had a problem with car play maps etc

looks like a must have upgrade for daily drivers of a fg1/2, and it looks like the v5 update is super responsive and featureful. i own an FGX and i know they have an upgrade kit for it, but the factory sync 2 head unit is featureful enough to not make the head unit upgrade a necessity, although there is a sync 3 upgrade that i know is a much easier install, for about 1.2k, however it lacks wireless carplay. imho, with how featureful the kayhan unit is it seems like saving a few hundred more you might as well get the kayhan unit with all its features. doesnt mean sync 3 is irrelevant, but for me at least, if i was to upgrade the head unit of a somewhat modern car id get something with a lot more features than a mediocre one

Headunit boots pretty much instantly , the phone connection (CarPlay) is temperamental sometimes it might take 5-10 seconds other times it can take a few mins I’m guessing if it was plugged in though it would be instant

I see there is no cd player not a big deal cd’s have phased out like the cassette lol. Is it plug and play? Or do they still have the power cable where they have to join to three other wires? No boot up issues at all I’ve never had the old version, but apparently older version of alternations and battery levels were not perfect then they would sometimes play up , pretty sure these have been improved mine has been great

@@gjw35057 I don’t load up videos, 1) take the top icc cover off 2) pull the console under the icc out. 3)screws on the top, 4 screws underneath 4) disconnect wiring underneath and on top 5) pull icc out. 6 ) unscrew 6 screws holding the screen/ apim assembly screen and apim are screwed together. ***get a sync 3 kit from let’s say Mr FPV online it will be configured for a FGX******* 7) screw in sync 3 assembly connect harness and push the icc back into its slot 8) bolt it all back in and fit the console . Place GPS antenna under the top lid and close up. 9) remove usb hub in centre console and replace with supplied USB port 10)turn key and you have sync 3. From start to finish 20 minutes. I haven’t tried a Chinese copy as Mr FPV ones work If you want to update sync 3 and maps free download from cyanlab. I’ve tried the kayhan units and nothing but grief and they suffer from a lot of bugs. $1300 for a messy kayhan unit. Vs $1250 for sync 3 that works and has free maps where kayhan want to slug you money every time, or you cheat and use IGo updates and cross blend the files. Yep I’ll take sync 3 any day.

Hey so I checked for you and the info I got back was “ unit is compatible with F1 models you just have to purchase the MK2 Fascia kit as listed for correct fitment. Please select MKIl fascia kit in your choice of colour it you require a factory F mkii Fascia kit, or "no fascia kit required" if you already have the mkii screen surround and top hat.” So follow that and you should he right , if you need installation done me know if you’re in Melbourne I can hook it up for you

I think I must have the model before. Looks very similar. The most infuriating this is the reverse cam. When you are reversing after you have just started the car, the Apple Car play will try to take over and you lose your reverse cam vision. You have to wait until Car Play is connected then put your car into reverse. So many times I have to keep going from reverse to N back to reverse to get my cam back up.

That’s so annoying mine doesn’t do that, however if you’re on a phone call and then jump into the car it has trouble connecting , hopefully this can be fixed in future updates they are always improving

@@georgeauto That is annoying. Yeah that canhapen with mine but doesn't od it always. Twice I have had a blank screen but music is playing for the whoel trip. Just can;t do anything on it until I next start up the car. Power off and back on doesn't solve the issue. All up though its a good piece of kit.

There should be a setting to tell your (Android) head unit the steering wheel is right hand drive, so in CarPlay the app switcher will appear on the right edge rather than on the left in your video.

I had the kayhan units and got the shits with them and their glitching units .I did a sync 3 into a fg Mk2 , pain in the arse ,changing modules and programming the whole car to a fgx.

@@christopherrobert92 Me. Most FGX and MK2 have the same modules installed, except. PAM,GWM, GPSM. The PAM module is replaced and GWM and GPSM are added. Then choose a VIN number and PMI away. MK2 and FGX have similar part number prefix Like BR or ER usually a BR will supersede to a ER . Unfortunately FORScan can’t do PCM programming or PATS so have to use IDS for that. Bonus are SYNC3 , front park sensors and auto wipers , park sensor just like a FGX. You get the usual idiots who say just buy a FGX but where’s the challenge to do something different,

@@christopherrobert92 it took a lot more time to understand the differences via wiring diagrams and part numbers but once you get your head around what need to be changed it was straight forward. Ford wiring is very good at following on from previous generations which means connectors are the same and most pin colours and function .
