Thanks for coming on this larp with me, everyone. I'm seeing some really compelling points in the comments, mainly about: 1) The realistic SHTF scenario for most of us being down the hallway and thus shorter barrels and .300 Blackout are a better option. It's difficult to argue with this logic. 2) Related to 1) above, no need for an LPVO, just spend $300-$500 on a reflex optic and call it a day. I agree with this as well. I think I'll stick with the LPVO but if I were on a tighter budget, I'd probably get an EOTech or AimPoint PRO w/QRP and go. 3) "$5,000!!!!!!" Haha, I'm with you on that, you cheap bastard. Realistically, as I mentioned in this video, if you save a few dollars on the optic, getting a DD upper and a less expensive lower, and perhaps a less expensive suppressor, and you'll probably get basically this setup at half cost, street price. I'm really enjoying this video series because of these conversations. I'm not a cop or an operator, but I have had the privilege of working with many of them on TFBTV over the years, and they all have varying theories as well, which I will present. I love making these types of videos so I'll work on getting Ep. 3 going in the next few months. I spent a whole year making this video and thrashing this DD, so I don't want to rush anything. BOLO for hot wine mommies and turbo hoboes- James

It's hard to just have just 1 set up for everything. I prefer my spikes tactical, 11.5" cold hammer forged barrel with a flash can on the end to blow tge sound out and away. Chances are you won't have ear plugs. That is my home defense next to my sig tacops 1911 carry threaded. Outside of the home is my 16" spikes midlength with a whiskey 3 4x12x50 (my eyes aren't that sharp anymore as I get older) and if I am really gonna reach out I have my 20" rifle length (as stoner intended) Aero precision.

@@hikeskool They're good rifles. If you want comparable quality at a slightly lower price, you could look at LWRC's IC DI. I know you'll say time coast money but doing more actual "building" and less "picking" an already built rifle and accessories would save hundreds on the rifle alone. Even just building out a lower with the parts you replaced on the DD would save a lot(DD has stripped uppers and lowers btw). After a quick bit of shopping one could buy all the parts from the DDv7(exactly the same parts from dd) that were not replaced in this build and you would only have to install a safety(you replaced the grip anyways), screw in the buffer tube and stake a castle nut. I don't know about you James but my time is DEFINITLY worth ~900 an hour. End of scizo rant, thanks for all the awesome videos and the short shorts.

Set your zero for the drop with the suppressor. when shooting un-suppressed you should know your shift. change it then. I keep a card with my rifle for the shift so I remember. I like this concept. My go to rifle is approximately that. Tavor X95 (5.56 16"), Razor Gen III 1-10, Spuhr mount, Surefire Scout, and a TAB Gear PRS sling (because that's what I had laying around). I have been considering a Blue Force Gear sling for a while though. the PRS sling is not necessarily built for that type of rifle. Sure you may be shooting a lot of closer range stuff where a red dot would be just fine. Some things to consider though about a LPVO over a red dot: 1) The LPVO even if your battery dies, you still have an etched reticle 2) It is still just as fast as a red dot 3) It can be used for more precision work if needed 4) You can stretch your rifle out to longer ranges more effectively 5) You can see your target better and get more reliable positive ID's on targets (probably the most important) You could negate the first 4 reasons, but the 5th reason is still king and worth any potential negative. As most know, you are responsible for the rounds you fire and you will have to answer for them and your actions.

Recently switched out my old RA trigger to a newer RA-535. This thing is fast, accurate, and butter smooth. A little over 1" @ 100yds with 110g underwood. It's the only rifle I own but I may build a 300bo, not sure. I live in C. Florida. I've taken it out to 300 yards and it didn't break a sweat. Won't need more than that living here. Police gunfights are rarely past 25 meters. Most civilian defensive shootings are less than that. I get that gun owners want to have fun larping with urban RECCE rigs at the range wasting more money than necessary on what should be a basic home defense build (basic mid-tier AR15 carbine, decent red dot, or holographic sight, a quality white light, BUIS, and quality LE grade defensive ammunition). If you want to go the NFA SBR and suppressor route, ok fine. Even if you were 100% legal in your defense shooting (say castle doctrine situation), cops will still confiscate your rifle, and even if you're lucky to not have an anti2A prosecutor looking to boost their political career at your expense with a politically driven "criminal" prosecution, you will probably have to sue to get your AR15 returned or compensated a with payout. It doesn't make sense to use one's most Gucci AR as their real "go-to" rifle. I think as civilians we really to focus on what matters based on the higher probable threats - a defensive shooting out of the home. "Truck guns" are another larp. Most of us aren't going to be carrying a loaded AR15 in our vehicles. Most states do not allow civilians to have loaded long guns in their vehicles even in less restrictive states. With ATF regs reclassifying pistol braces as "SBRs", that's another legal can of worms. Real-world most of us will be carrying our EDC pistol, a spare magazine or two, OC spray, defensive knife, and maybe some basic medical kit. We need to stop the larping and refocus on what matters which is spending more time training with our actual EDC kit.

I’m surprised you never talked about bullpups. A bullpup is IMO the ideal urban rifle (as you know: many of the world’s militaries agree). With my RDB, I get a full length 17.3” barrel in a package that is shorter than a 10.5” AR15 SBR without a tax stamp. With a K can on it, it’s about as long as a 12.5” unsuppressed AR. It’s not just compactness either, you also get a huge advantage in *balance* with a bullpup. With a bullpup the center of gravity is right around where your trigger hand is, so it’s super maneuverable in indoor CQB situations and just feels great to handle. I can even shoot mine one-handed no problem. Plus you get that higher velocity and lower report from the full length barrel for longer engagements.

The Mk2 improvements that BCM has done, is better than anything DD has going on. Their Mk2 A5 buffer system is better than a carbine setup. And their Mk2 upper is a vast improvement over stock M4 upper. Thicker webbing reduces reciever twisting. Bolts will last a lot longer. And no added weight. As an owner of a DD M4A1 RIS III and DDM4V7, and BCM MK2 RECCE 14 ELW.. I agree about the BCM MK2 upper. Excellent 'redesign' on the traditional mil-spec upper. Not that most users will even need the extra rigidity that comes with the MK2 upper receiver, but I guess it's the piece of mind that counts. Not so sure about the "gas expansion chamber" on the MK2 upper receivers. I don't notice a difference when shooting suppressed compared to mil-spec or even the few billet upper receivers I've used. Overall a well thought out system that should work great. Personally I'd go with a 11.5 to 12.5 sbr instead considering the can will help some with the velocity and still keep the gun semi short. I've been playing with a LMT 12.5 piston setup running a surefire can and while heavy it has very little blowback and overall a great setup. It has the EOTech 1-6 and as you stated its a little heavier but I do love the donut of death on 1x before you zoom out of it. Its one of the few guns I haven't put a MBT trigger in as the lmt 2 stage in the mars-l lower is fine. The MBT is better but I can't really complain about the stock one.

With all the respect I have for you and the channel, I dare you to try moving around this kind of fishing-rod build in a CQB environnement, for exemple on an airsoft CQB field. Spoiler : it's a pain in the a** I'm doing it regularly with a 14.5" (no suppressor) and it already needs a lot of practice to go around corners, stairs and doors. With a 14.5" barrel and 62gr you keep a nice therminal balistic, even up to 300m, if it's not enough for you, just go for a 7.62x39. An urban rifle unwieldable indoors just make no sense ... Testing an urban rifle on a flat range is like testing a long-range rifle on a 100m shooting-range, it may work flawlessly, but you are not testing anything really. It's a great build, great rifle, great accessories, but not a realistic urban rifle build.

The price is about the same and according to BCM's website, there is only 1oz differences between barrels and 1oz differences between their 15in and 13in handguards. That 100% surprised me. I thought it would be more. Ultimately, the difference is going to be a rifle 1.5in shorter and appropriately 2oz lighter with the added time and expense of getting a gun smith to pin and weld the muzzle device or a slightly longer and heavy gun that also has 65ish more FPS.

I have been planning on getting a DD rifle, I’ve been shooting my Geissele 14.5” & 16” rifles the last 3 & 5 Years. Kinda my go to rifles. But I built a budget custom rifle with all AERO M4 Enhanced upper/lower/rail w/ the DD CHF CL 16” Midlength gas system & DD BCG & the LaRue trigger & it’s impressed me so much I am going to copy this Build & see if I can find another Go To besides my Geisseles. Oh yeah, for my glass I have been using the US Optics 1-8 with the funky Mil Dot/MOA Combo set up. But for 450$-600$ depending on year purchased they’re not bad at all. Thanks for the extended reviews you do! When somebody runs 100-200 rounds through something & plugs it like it’s the 2nd coming of “Hay-Seuss” I’m always skeptical. With a year on the trigger using cheapo any store has it Ammo, that’s another plus. Hearing reviews from flat range central w/ match ammo pulling 1” groups I estimate myself clocking 13” groups of 5 with 55grn reloads from Gunbroker.. thanks for “Keepin it Real” for the rest of us! Can’t wait to see how I do with this.

I change ammo a fair amount with my rifles that use Night force scopes with have your hated return to zero stop. I get around it by setting the return to zero stop at around -0.5 mils from my favorite ammo zero. This allows me to dial a different zero (but doesn't necessarily read 0 on the turret) for.different ammo. I note the zero adjustment on a piece of paper taped inside the lens cap.

Well done as always Mr. Reeves. Great information, feedback and entertainment. Well done. While I prefer my DD Rifles to mount with 6 bolts... the V7 is hard to beat for the price.

Finally doing my dream build now. I’m waiting on my 14.5 URGI to ship from geissele. Currently on the “4-6 week wait” step of the process. I’ve decided I’m going all in on this build. I’m in between a radian ADAC or LMT lower because I’m a lefty. Most likely eotech with magnifier. A cmc single Stage. Probably b5 furniture. Still not sure on the optic. I love my 4x acog on my 16 inch ar but I just DONT KNOW! Wracking my brain on this one.

My "Duty" rifle build is a 16" Griffin Armament Mk1 RECCE as a base. I can't say enough good things about that rifle. It's easily sub MOA, the trigger is phenomenal, and it runs & runs. She is a THICCC BITHCH, so if weight is a concern you might need to do some pushups. I topped it with a PA 2.5-10x ACSS Griffin w/ offset holosun 403c-gr. I've gotten hits out to 780m with IMI 77gr. I'm running a Cloud Rein Micro 2.0, which is great. For a dedicated 5.56 can leaning towards Griffin's new Dual-Lok HRT 556, but I'm also considering the DA Sierra 5. I also swapped out the GA stock, basically an improved M4 stock, for a Magpul ACS to have something a with less wiggle for distance shooting.

Excellent video displaying the effectiveness of the zero. Depending on what rifle I'm using, I'll use a 25-35 yard zero as well.

I’d add a vcog. Yes it’s heavy, but the built in mount and consistent eye relief thru the entire magnification makes up for it
