Novice here, the frame for bench top, why do you cut it at a 45° angle and weld it compared with just bumping it against each other and welding it, is it stronger ?

Personally, I prefer cutting 45-degree angles whenever possible. I find open ends unappealing, so I try to avoid them. By cutting at 45 degrees, I can usually eliminate the need for end caps. However, having open ends on a welding table can be useful for connecting a ground clamp, so it’s a situation where both options have their benefits.

That and a 45° angle creates a larger surface area to weld for a stronger join apparently.

I have a vise bolted to the table where I usually connect my ground clamp, it works perfectly!

Nice! What is the thickness of your steel profiles? 2mm or 3mm?
@woodweld3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I used 3mm for the top crossbars just in case I was going to put something extremely heavy on it and 2mm for the legs and the bottom shelf. The tabletop sheet was 4mm thick.

nice job. table size ?
@woodweld3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much! The size is 10x4 foot (300x120 cm) tabletop and the legs are 40 inches (100 cm). I was building this for myself because I'm tall and I wanted a tall workbench so it's perfect!
