Loved Hitch's art on Ultimates. The first couple of years of the Ultimate universe was pretty good, then it just turned into a how edgier can we get contest. Gotta say Cap beating Hank Pym to pulp was oddly satisfying.

Luckily the MCU got a much nicer Ant Man. And Cap. And Iron Man. And actually everyone. Still great though. Although Thor's Ultimate design was rad as hell.

Gabe Saravia I read the comics changed the design of those characters so they would look like Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hidleston. The same with Tony Stark. Before the MCU I see designs where was blue eyed and his jaw was different then they made Iron Man in the comics look like RDJ

Great episode fellas, highly enjoyable. I read I think the first three issues of Ultimates 3, honestly the only reason I read U3 was because of Joe Madureira. I knew he had worked with Scott Lobdell on Age of Apocalypse then worked on his own creation Battle Chasers, then segued into videogames. Never read Ultimatum. Look forward to when you guys review Ultimates 3.
@ImperiusRex5 жыл бұрын
Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum were a 1-2 punch that essentially killed the Ultimate universe. It's a shame. So much potential cut short. And Mad Joe's art is great, this was just the wrong book for it.

Imperius Rex I feel like without ultimates, The mainstreamed marvel comics wouldn’t be as streamlined, modernized and somewhat Larger than life as they are today, do you agree with me?
@bassgod475 жыл бұрын
Certainly one of my favorite series of all time. I can attribute the Ultimate line to getting my younger self into an ongoing comics series and the universe that surrounded it. The Ultimates in particular was such a drastically different book than Spiderman and Xmen, and yet, it just made so much sense.
@matiasleon96575 жыл бұрын
Duuuuuudes, it's been almost 10 years since I read Ultimates for the first time. I read it when I was 15, and I don't think it would have the same effect if I read it now. At that time, I got caught by Hitch's art, and not so much by Millar's script. I love it as a teenager, and it has a special place in my heart. I bought Ultimates 1 last year for like $10, and it fills me with nostalgia since it was one of the first comics I ever read till the bitter end. It's a cool story to read that gets better if one understands the context in which it came out. Amazing video!

Much more specific I wanted to know which universe is the inspiration for our heroes origins and personalities. Now I know the the MCU has its own earth in the whole marvel multiverse it’s earth. Lot of love for the ultimates, I thought blue boy Tony was a little odd, especially when the bullies thought it would be cool to shove him in the fire . . . Love the ultimates, wasn't there a russian captain America who had been locked away and had gone a little nuts? I think it's a shame it was wound up (I think ultimatum was a shame as well), there were some cool concepts, not just Miles, how about Reed Richards becoming a baddy? I've heard rumours and speculation that marvel has thought about revisiting it, I personally would love to see a new take, in the vein of this with new interpretations of the characters. The odd story set in the ultimate universe every so often, once or twice a year would be cool too.
@troytothemax87675 жыл бұрын

Can't believe I missed this episode! I love the Ultimates. I was given it when I was way too young for it. I love this series, the art and the writing are at top notch. I love all the Thor doubt and how much it's Loki using his powers subtly rather than overtly at the end when his goal has failed. Though that's fun too, it's Millar and Hitch going full-superhero and embracing all the crazy that they avoided for the run. Also adore exploring superheroes in politics as they inevitably would be used the way it happens in Ultimates 2. It's a real exploration of Ultimate Spider-Man's genetic war theme. Lastly Ultimate Avengers is interesting if yes inferior. The final storyline is the most like the Ultimates inasmuch as superheroes fighting each other mixed with some political commentary.

I kinda like mcu thanos, he looks like the mainstream version of the character and has a similar origin but his personality and motivation is so much better and rooted in reality, he should have been in the ultimate universe instead of that Darkside knockoff Also his armor design is slicker/cooler and more realistic, less cartoony then the comic book version of the character

Ah, what a nice time I had reading the first two Ultimates' volumes, then came Jeph Loeb and it all went downhill :( Also, the analogue to Cap that battles against him in vol. 2 has no direct counterpart, but seems to be inspired by The Red Guardian, a soviet equivalent to Cap in regular Marvel continuity.
@ImperiusRex5 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I knew that he was the inspiration for one of the villains in Warren Ellis' Ultimate Nightmare mini, but a quick wiki search shows that he was actually the inspiration for this guy as well:. Good catch. Ultimate MarvelThe Ultimate Marvel version of Alexei Shostakov is a Russian super soldier codenamed "Captain Russia" meant to be the Russian version of Captain America. This version is certifiably insane and uses a makeshift shield created partially from human remains, and possesses superhuman strength and durability. A fight between the two results in Captain America defeating him, by stabbing him with splintered wood that acts as a stake through the chest, declaring "Fighting is about winning".[22] Shostakov was once married to Black Widow and is now deceased.[23] Colonel Abdul al-Rahman from Azerbaijan (leader of the Liberators) was based on the Red Guardian as the character was a parallel to Captain America, and wears a predominantly red costume and was transformed into a super-soldier by Russian scientists. He faces off against Steve Rogers in front of the White House, one on one but is defeated when the Hulk throws his shield to sever his hands and Rogers kills him with his weapon, resembling a double bladed lightsaber. His body is later taken into S.H.I.E.L.D..[24]
