Starting early is the best way of getting ahead to built wealth, Investment remains the priority, the stock market has plenty opportunities to earn a decent payout, with the right skills and proper understanding of how the market works.

This is why I love the utility of options. The long straddle can be utilized to play expanding volatility, and even with the inflated IV ahead of Powell, it STILL paid given the outsized move, which is why I like that you chose this example. Another great video Seth! Thanks!

The meeting on the 26th was carrying a lot of weight for what needed to be addressed. The charts were already setup for a large move in either direction (mainly down) looked priced in and to be expected however depending on what was to be said would send the price in either direction. The strategy made perfect sense for that given scenario purchasing the closest ITM strike price into the last couple minutes before the session ended on the 25th. Especially with the fact of if you cant read things correctly or simply cant make up your mind or you cant wait it out and simply trade price action on the 25th, which many people cant do confidently. I don't see everyone's big stink on the video, it made sense. Although there were a few signals/signs that had already been given into the last 15m of the trade period letting you know which side had a stronger probability. I personally chose to trade the session there were quite a few day trade signals that worked out really well for both sides in the first 30min of open along with the following expected sell off which also gave signs/signals... there's always signs/signals in my opinion. Good video.

Good clip Seth. Price n vol, price n vol.... Those straddles work but they are low probability trades in my view as you really have to be right on price n time and even more right on such short dated positions. What can help boost the probabilities, is positioning at techical extremes. Thnks very much.

Yes but in high volatility environments the move often goes beyond the expected range. I use this on earnings plays.

Another good video by Seth! How about closing both a little early while the option 'on the losing side' still has some value?

With such a big drop, there is a massive influence of implied volatility on options prices. In this case, tt helped to make long put very valuable. But if the market went up, the IV would sharply down and decrease price of the long call significantly...

Increases in volatility actually hurt long put returns to a degree due to their negative vega.

With expected move like that your premiums are already jacked up. You should be ready to loose all the premium if there is no significant move as expected.

SMB/Seth- great video! Question: would this week (09/20-21) be another ideal time for this strategy? With Fed rate decision on 09/21?

before the event, the IV might be quite high - is it better to long the straddle earlier than the previous day ?

seems to me that a lot of these trades are looking back at how the market had behaved at different times and then constructing options trades based on that. for example in most years the Jackson Hole meeting does not move markets as much but this year was an exception.....in any case, I disagree that a long straddle is a high probability trade: most of the times the implied volatility before these events are high and the actual market move is less than anticipated making these trades losers !

Asking the comment section (don't make me regret this lol): The example in the video buys to open an ATM long straddle the night before the FOMC announcement. This subjects each leg of the options to decay rapidly by the next day due to theta. Would it be more advantageous, If I'm expecting a big move on a close to expiration option, to open the ATM long straddle the day of the announcement? (lets say 30 minutes - 1 hour before announcement). I could pay less in premium, thus reducing my breakeven price for each side. These weekly SPX options are PM settled, so I can trade day of, right? Need some help. Thanks y'all.

I used a similar strategy for Jackson Hole. Bought a put 5 points OTM and a call 5 points OTM ten minutes before Powell spoke. Put ended 28x on the day.

There is a risk and you would risk what you can afford to lose of your account size, you have to trade overtime the same strategy to get consistent results and not just hope for a one time hit, so it doesn’t matter where it closes if you’re a professional trader

4191 you’d profit 100 on the call but be negative on the put. Cost of trade 5145 + 100 call profit - 2450 cost of put. You’d lose 2350. Straddles only work out if there’s a big move beyond the break even point

Buy an at-the-money straddle. Just saved 12 minutes of your life. Also it's terrible advice. You should only ever buy a straddle if you expect realized vol to be higher than implied vol, and if you don't understand what that means then you should never buy a straddle.
