Great Video as always! The "Burning Gloves" from Brotherhood of Steel, while being a quite literal description, is likely also a reference to the real life cheating strategy in boxing of "Burning Gloves", where the front of a pair of boxing gloves is rubbed with some sort of irritant (typically the ointment used ringside to disinfect cuts and bruises) in order to blind and disorient their opponent. This tactic was infamously rumored to have been employed by Sonny Liston in the fight against Muhammed Ali in 1964 that would cause Ali to become famous, but to this day has never been proven true.

When you get to the video discussing if some robots gain self-awareness, I have a few points to bring up. When we ask Codsworth how he has been for the last 200 years he seems like a normal machine that can't understand what is happening, then he breaks down emotionally after a speech check. He was pretending to be a more simple machine as a form of self-protection. He went mad, so he didn't have to face the world. What if almost every robot has the capability to become self-aware to a point, but most just find it easier to stay simple-minded, so even if it starts to develop, it gets snuffed out? Also, I just assume all brainbots are sentient. I mean, they are literally human brains. It made no sense to me that everyone kept looking at the insane brain in a jar and kept saying it was just a robot. Everyone can see the human brain controlling that thing, right? It just seems odd to me that they would off-handedly bring up the idea of normal robots gaining rights in fallout 4, but the clearly human brains controlling robot bodies are never mentioned. I don't care if they were programmed brains. We call getting someone out of a cult deprogramming them for a reason.

iirc, robobrains had their brains altered through surgery, drugs, and maybe training, so that their original personas were wiped, leaving behind a blank slate to write programming onto (it would be interesting to see if it's actual programming or if it's done through brainwashing, tbh) Also, some of the scientists at Big MT often talk about using drugs to alter their brain chemistry, delivered via absorbtion through the gel, so maybe robobrains have a consistent feed of some mix of hallucinogenics and anti-psychotic meds (pro-psychotics too, if combat protocols are initiated, maybe?) to keep them locked into their reprogramming. Maybe Mentats with Daytripper and Calmex for a calm state & Psycho, Buffout, and a dash of Med-X for combat, idk.

17:23 - As per Joshua Graham's description of him, Salt-Upon-Wounds got his name not from the power fist he uses, but because he ordered his warriors to literally spread salt over the land that they conquered, thus preventing the land from being used for farming, grazing, and other community- and life-sustaining things. 22:09 - Looking at this concept art made me think of something: are there any canonical left-handed variants of the power fist? All the versions we see are right-handed, but since there are canonical left-handed firearms, there're bound to be left-handed power fists, especially for the industrial/construction versions. 27:15 - I've always thought this weapon's design is stupid. Putting dogtags between your fingers and punching with them would hurt the user more than the opponent. However, the name of the unique version, "Recompense of the Fallen", is one of the coolest weapon names in the game. 35:30 - Regarding the rearming of the clamping mechanism, perhaps the operator is gripping something in their hand that, when squeezed, applies pressure to the clamping mechanism and resets it. That would require a whole hell of a lot of pressure, though, since pulling apart the jaws of a bear trap is by no means easy.

You could argue The Shocker could've been intended to be used as a way to test electrical systems without hooking said systems up to a building's power grid. Like, you're setting up an AC unit or something, but aren't sure if you have the general wiring set up correctly. So you have someone with a Shocker press the shocky bit to the machine's input to energize it and see what happens. If it works, you can hook it up to the building. I can see the powerfists in the first two games in one of two ways: 1. They were created by the military, but only used by special forces or specific units and so not many military grade power fists exists. It should be noted that during early development, Obsidian *did* want to have certain melee/unarmed weapons consume ammo - like the ballistic fist consuming shotgun shells, and the zap glove consuming one of the energy ammo types (can’t remember which one.) However, this concept was scrapped due to engine limitations and lack of development time. Most likely just a coincidence, but the power fist in FO1/FO2 reminds me of the mechanical gauntlet Ash had from the third Evil Dead movie Also: the resemblance between the “Static Strikers” from Killing Floor 2 and the FO4 power fist is uncanny. Much as I like the various melee weapons in Fallout, unarmed is also a lot of fun. As someone who adores monks in fantasy games, there's something rightly badass about punching monsters to death with your bare hands. Claw weapons, katars, and other stabby, cutty fist weapons are also great. So it's no surprise that Fallout also has badass fist-loaders, pointy or not. Aside from an Unarmed build character I once played in New Vegas, I feel I haven't appreciated these as much. Given that there's only a few of them in many Fallouts, maybe I'm not the only one. Then again, having few unarmed weapons also helps sell the minimalist vibe of a wasteland martial artist. There are, after all, boatloads of junk that are weaponized as Melee Weapons in the series. While I feel the FO3/NV power fist is a bit too bulky for my tastes, I liked the various punching weapons NV slapped together -- especially the shock fist and Pally Toaster, let alone the ballistic fist. If going for the "pneumatic" variants, the FO4/76 industrial one seems a fair compromise.

Since the power fist in 3 and beyond seems to be a beefed up impact glove from Tactics it would be nice if 76 or a future Fallout game re-introduced the classic power first: call something like the 'kinetic fist' and give it charge up to make it distinct from other unarmed weapons (though for 76 they would have to futz around with some of code so you could charge and sprint at the same time). Go back to new Vegas and give and unarmed bloody mess build a whirl. Not only is it extremely overpowered, it's also hilarious to slomo punch a deathclaw and have it burst into pieces

Personally I've always neglected unarmed weapons over melee weapons since I prefer to either pop heads from long distances with rifles, or wield heavy energy weapons to cut down hoards at a time. Melee weapons I'd use for when I wanted to be more of an up close and personal, assassin kind of build. Only exception I've ever found and enjoyed using was FO:NV's Ballistic Fist. I mean come on, wrist mounted shotgun firing point blank into anyone you punch? How much more fun could that be?

The Proton-Reversal Axe in OWB made me fall in love with melee. Just me in T-51B, wielding the Proton-Reversal Axe, smacking the shit outta literally anything and everything. Trauma Harness, Robo-Scorpion, Cazador, I didn't care. I became a lumberjack and the Big MT was my forest. These days, a typical build for me is early game spec into Speech, Science, Medicine, Barter, and Repair, and raise up those skills equally while also spec'ing my Energy Weapons, Guns, and Melee Weapons. Sure, maybe it's not the most efficient thing, focusing on so many skills at once, but it allows me to be a jack of all trades, I have a wider variety of options at any given point as opposed to hard focusing on a couple at a time.

My uncle had a similar problem with the teeth on his boar skull falling out ( it was mounted on gate post ) so one day he took it down and glued all the teeth in with rubber cement they haven’t fallen out since

About the mace glove, just a fun useless fact. 4lbs would actually be an accurate weight for a mace. Granted real mace heads aren't as large as you often see in games and movies, but hey.

Maybe the shocker does extra damage to robots BECAUSE it's malfunctioning, and that attempting to fry them is not intended, much like the mole rat repellant stick

There's a unique dogtag fist in NV. I forgot what it's called, but it is found in Aurelius of Pheonix's room in Cottonwood Cove.

The mace glove from Fallout Tactics is a reference to the Star Trek TNG episode where Tasha has to fight the space African chick.

My bet would be on the "Power Fist" that its some kind of mining tool, to help process the ore, and braking up smaller stone slabs. Maybe it is operated by steam/hot air pressure, that's why the smoke effect.

Somehow i remember something of a shotgun-glove or power fist with shotgun-hells, that fire the shell(s) on impact, but it could have ben a moded weapon.

The Starlet's Hand Wraps are suspected to be from a cut version of the Starlet hologram in Dead Money, which explains their properties fairly well.

1 year later, I bet someone has mentioned this already. The BoS Iron Gloves seen at 26:00 use the word "groovy" as a reference to the protagonist from the Evil Dead franchise, Ash. In the 3rd film, he can switch his chainsaw hand out for a mechanical hand. One of his catchphrases is "groovy."

I was a straight melee build in 76 till the mid 80's. Then switch to a full on shotgun build. I enjoyed using my Deathclaw Gauntlet. Would be interesting to duel equip unarmed weapons

I like to imagine the gauss rifle in fallout 3 gets its projectiles in a similar way to the revolver from ultrakill - tiny microscopic flakes off a bit of ferrous metal, which can just be reloaded with any bit of ferrous metal the user can find (even just scraping off bits of the gun's casing)
