I remember these as a kid but didn’t realize that was the last episode. It’s actually a perfect way to end it when you remember the first episode was about an animator coming up with the show and showing up drawing the characters out

Aside from the "Spring Break Speacial" released in 1994, the Christmas episode was the very last episode and Bugs (voiced by Mel Blanc's son) would make a cameo at the end.

This wasn’t the series ending, it was a post-original run holiday special based on It’s a Wonderful Life and makes everyone go off characters just to achieve the parody/homage of the source material.

Sometimes I forget just how much the characters had grown, over the course of the series. The same thing happened when Animaniacs had ended, especially with the two-part episode, "Hooray for North Hollywood," where the Warners's success had Thaddeus Plotz removed from the studio, only for the siblings to realize just how much he meant to them, and the straight-to-video movie, "Wakko's Wish," which showed how the siblings and their castmates had gone through great lengths, to make their dreams come true.

Seeing you insert so much meaning into this, it's almost hard to inform you that this wasn't intentionally planned to be the "final episode", it's just that as a holiday special, it was completed along with the rest of the season, and aired out of production order, and held over until seasonally appropriate. On top of that, the series would have kept airing if the network had only ordered more episodes. Also there had been irregularly aired Tiny Toons specials produced occasionally after this as well. Honestly it's all just a coincidence. This being any kind of "series finale" was the last thing on their mind when this was being made.

That's okay, just because some of the details are slightly out of order, doesn't lessen the impact that the material made on me personally and I hope that doesn't lessen its impact on anyone watching this video.

Interesting that Buster’s guardian angel is a white rabbit. I bet it is a twofer call back to Jimmy Steward. Tho you can catch it from the voice if you recognized it. The first part would from a reversal of his role from “It’s a Wonderful Life”, and the rabbit part is from another one of his movies famous movies “Harvey”. He played a man with a large imaginary white rabbit friend named Harvey. Very cute.

Other episodes that dabbled in the darker side of things- Season 2's "Elephant Issues" has the infamous Drunk Driving PSA segment 'One Beer' that ends with Buster, Hamton and Plucky perishing in a car crash after an alcoholic bender. Yes, really. After the show ended the Animaniacs crew did do a couple of TTA prime time specials (which unfortunately seem to be obscure as they were given to Fox affiliates as "optional programming") but the Halloween special "Night Ghoulery" features a weird and twisted riff on Spielberg's first horror film DUEL.

I remember watching both of those episodes in the 90s. Rewatching it when I was older I caught a lot more of the movie references and adult jokes. Probably the darkest episode I remember was when they parodied Tales From the Crypt and Night of the Living Dead, all of the dead pets buried in the Elmer Fudd girl's backyard came back to life as zombies and tried to get her back. Some of the episodes they did with the old black and white cartoon characters got pretty deep, too.

I get that it works, but the moral that you matter because you improve other lives is kinda wrong. it implies that, once you fall out of favor, you instantly lose value like a horse that gets shot if it cant run in competitions anymore. imo that idea could lead to the insinuation that people are worthless if they dont benefit others.
