My favourite "undead" story is that of Saint Juvenaly. He was martyred in Alaska by native tribesmen. They beat him to death only for him to rise up again and follow them, urging them to repent. So, as any normal person would do when faced with the undead, they beat him to death again...only for him to come back to life again and urge them to repent. This occurred numerous times until they used the age old method of chopping him into pieces which finally put the Saint to rest. But it was too late...the natives were all infected with the Holy Spirit and became Baptised Orthodox Christians hungry for Body and Blood (of Christ). Truly terrifying stuff.

Love all these stories you compose. The artwork and color are always wonderful. I always think of the the Saints as ‘hyper-natural’ as opposed to the western idea of ‘supernatural’.
@jajohnson7809 Жыл бұрын
We have saints whose incorrupt hands raise up in blessing. We have St. Juvenaly, whose story has been told here. And we have the walking saints of Greece, whose souls return to their bodies, and disappear from their coffins for periods of time, presumably out and about helping people and answering prayers. I hate it when people call a dead body a "shell." These accounts of the saints demonstrate how important the body is, that it will rise again, and it can be used at God's pleasure to minister to others from the tomb.

You left out one category that I think is vitally important to this conversation. The possessed dead. depending on who you ask, vampires are demons possessing corpses. and even if they specifically aren't, then it is still a category that is worth discussing.

Revelation 20:13 says that at the final judgement “The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.” The separation of the dead from the sea and the dead from hades seems to imply that sometimes the spirits of the dead linger on earth. What do you all think?

I noticed a disclaimer recently in an old horror movie that the film does not depict accurately any person “living or dead” - to my conspiracy-mindedness, this is left un-clarified if the film depicts those who are living AND dead. Therefore - logikully - horror films (at least the classical and good ones), may be factual and historical depictions of the *living dead*.🤣

Well, i must comment that the Catholics and the Orthodox have different theologies related to that event. And the differences are important.. Very well worth learning the differences. [Edit:.i just reread this. Sounds a bit smug. That wasn't the mood i was in. Was just trying to be brief. And make a quick point .without getting into territory better explained by someone other than I.]
@vivacristorey4363 Жыл бұрын
@@lindaphillips4646 I was unaware that there was any difference between the theologies on this matter. I attend both a Roman rite and a Byzantine Catholic parish both of which are in union with Rome. To my understanding, Eastern Catholics keep their theological traditions, but they differ in that they accept the papacy. Could you please explain what the difference is how the Eastern Orthodox Church views the event compared to the Eastern Catholic Church and/or the Roman Catholic beliefs? Thank you.

I know this might not go over on this channel, but I was convicted lately by something. I have been researching Carville, a former leper hospital in Louisiana, USA. This hospital was staffed by Catholic nuns. In one of the pictures, whether due to the poor photography in that era or poor scanning, etc. one of the nuns looked like she herself had an advanced case of Hansen's disease (leprosy.) This struck me greatly, that we as a society have taken the images of very sick, suffering people and turned them into "zombies" and "monsters" and other objects of horror on our television programs. God be merciful to us.

2:13 Such nonsensical beleifs are never spoken of by the Bible. All spiritual apparitions of Saints in the bible are short manifestations for a specific purpose. Mary as far as scripture goes; is dead and asleep in the grave. Any claim regarding Mary will NOT be found to be supported by Scripture. Mary has not yet risen, is dead asleep in the grave and awaits judgement like any other "saint". Btw: All christians are "Saints" in scripture, as the bible says we are SANCTIFIED (hagios;hagion) by the Holy Spirit.
