I remember reading how Thin Lizzy were on tour (possibly Europe), I'm not sure where and they bumped into The Undertones. Phil was really happy about it and said as much. The Undertones bass player, I think it was Michael Bradley, piped up, "I don't like your music. " Phil just kind of rolled his eyes. Just struck me as funny.

@Chrisamusic19 жыл бұрын
Awww man, I adored this band. Feargal's odd vocal tones, the twin guitars but mostly the tunes. For me, the best ever punk pop band (and I come from Buzzcocks' town) without a doubt. Saw em at the factory club in Manchester in 1980, then the Apollo twice and the free trade hall. Wonderful, joyous, punk pop genius. Am a gushing? They were just F*****g ace. (and yeah, I know they are still going, but I'm talking about this band at this time).

+Chris A. It still fun to see them live nowadays. Saw them in Amsterdam last spring and that was a great show. They might be a "retro act" but they sure don't sound like one.

I was at the Free Trade Hall when all the seats were flattened. I was only about 14. We bumped into the bass player in corridor after. He was chatting to done.mate he knew in audience & we are getting autographs. Bouncer came up said everyone out. We said he's in the band but he didn't believe us and kicked is out onto the street along with Michael Bradley. He didn't say nowt he wasn't arsed and just carried in chatting to his.mate on the street. It was first concert I ever went to. It was all downhill from their what a night!

The lads are quite funny and greatest guitar lines ever in pop/punk band. Buzzcocks come up a close second I'd say and then maybe Superchunk in the US of A. Woah....There goes Norman. Always made me think of Norman Bates in Psycho. Nice little video to dispel that notion though! Oh one more line I always wanted to use....These guys are the answer to the question "What is the name of the greatest Irish rock band starting with the letter "U"?" (Bono dry your tears and get over it).
@etamommy2 жыл бұрын
@Nigel -- Well many people feel the same way you do about that, Nigel. To me, they improved and to an extent diversified. I think album 2 or 3 (Hypnotized or Positive Touch) were better than their eponymous debut. Sin of Pride tried to push into soul music or something and was not initially my cuppa tea anymore...but listening to it all these years later there are a hand full of tracks that still fantastic. If you get the extended version CDs songs like "turning blue" are to my ears exquisite.
@LouisMiles-i6t6 ай бұрын
Superchunk are a very good band, but they are nowhere near 3rd, after buzzcocks & undertones, there are a million American bands that would fit that spot far better
@etamommy5 ай бұрын
@@LouisMiles-i6t well to each his or her own but I believe Superchunk would be up there in the running. I won’t count greenday as to me they are too derivative of these first bands (Undertones and particularly Buzzcocks) though still enjoyable as they have the right influences! Give me a few examples of those many other bands you’d put ahead of Superchunk if you don’t mind! Maybe I have some musical exploration and additions I need to make to my collection!

oh, i thought you were doing it for emphasis, although i don't like very much rap as it is really repetitive, i do like some rap songs. But what does rap have to do with the undertones?
@nebraskahusker2478 жыл бұрын
FionnDoesStuff in my younger days the undertones were a brand new band along with the jam, the strangles, stiff little fingers and many many more.. these bands were inavators and actually played musical instruments unlike today's so called "rap artists" who just yell into a microphone to a droning repetitive beat. now with that said I did have an appreciation for run dmc and the beastie boys in their early days. but today's rap music is nothing in comparison to the music that was available in my youth...but then again my parents hated my music and at this point in life I am older than they were when I bought my first undertones record. so maybe I have just turned into my parents😄. now if you will excuse me I have to go chase some kids off my lawn.
