My brother has achondroplasia and he is such a good and kind person, but even going out in public people can't help but point, stare, laugh, and make rude comments. My family and I, confront those people. He hates it when we defend him, but It makes me us so angry. People talk about equality, equity, love everyone or your a bigot and somehow this attitude excludes little people. Peter Dinklage said dwarfism is the last bastion of acceptable prejudice. Its so sad, but so true.

There are people who fear little people,as if they have magical powers and shun them instead of befriending them ,,,,some people find it hard to approach little people in fear that the little person will not like them or the little person has been treated badly and will be spiteful. Hard to believe but when I was young ,in a large crowd of friends ,the conversation came round to modern little people verses historical .these phobias came up and now I am old and never forgot this.I really enjoyed. While it could be considered exploitative, it seems a lot better than later centuries where he would be relegated to a seedy carnival side show. Now being captured and enslaved by pirates is a bad deal no matter who you are.

well even as you say enslavement was a horror , it was the reality of all the poor of europe even if they were not literal slaves they were slaves , they were poorly paid and if the duke fancied you you could not refuse and live well after , what ever they chose to do to their surfs was up to them even killing them , so how was freedom better when actually you were literal property of the local land owner ? noblesse oblige in reality was dependant on the land owner having even a spark of decency

I find it so ironic that we think of the "different people" that kings kept in their courts, as hapless victims, exploited for their oddities; and so they were . At least to some extent, but many became important confidantes and friends to the royals, and probably all received a better education, much better food, and a home and all the amenities which go along with living with the royals. It doesn't make it right, but it is a bit better than what people did back in the circus days of freak shows etc.

"people treat them like victims but think about it, if their parents/they didnt sell themselves to pt barnum who would have cared for them? who would have fed them and given them jobs? at least they werent on the street and had more opportunities." i agree with you it seems better than how many people lived without those resources but a lot of time objectified people were abused and degraded still, just differently than they would have in the street bc the audience has more respect for what they see is someone elses property.

I saw a child size suit of armor in the Art Museum in Philadelphia it was not marked as to who had owned it. I remember thinking why would someone make a suit of armor as small as a seven year old ,it so heavy the child could not even walk in it. Hmmm I never thought of a dwarf in a battle .

I would like to see Robert Dudley’s wife, Queen Elizabeth’s cousin featured. She married the queens love in secret and tried to make her own court and become a queen herself. Her son would rise up to lead a revolt against Elizabeth after they had a “relationship”. I don’t know how her story compares to others you have done but I found it interesting.

It's so good to see young people researching history, and teaching it and not making us forget. I now know in whatever generations, there will always be Historians who will keep the the Truth alive for us, a young Historian albeit, but he took the time to research, and if he only remembers the research to give it back to us, then he is stellar to keep the past alive. Now if ever a memoir ever needed to be discovered, I would give a lot to read about life from his perspective. I can’t even imagine the cruelty he was subjected to, but there was clearly an indomitable spirit tucked away in there. Surviving 25 years of slavery as a little person in the 17th century, just vaguely speculating, leaves one cold with dread. This was a brilliant telling, thank you for the introduction to Sir Jeffrey Hudson.

You should do Razia al-Din. She is a badass legend that history has forgotten about. History: Razia al-Din of Delhi was the first and only female sultan who reigned for only four years between 1236-1240. The daughter of slaves. Her father, Shams ud-Din Iltutmish, was sold into slavery as a young child. At one point he was the slave of a slave..but grew up to become the first Muslim Sultan. Her mother was also a slave who became Iltutmish's first/head wife. Razia was a fierce warrior but proved her leadership skills between 1231-1232 when she administered Delhi while her father was busy in Gwalior. After which, he named her his successor as he felt his sons were too incompetent. According to historian Minhaj-i-Siraj, "Iltutmish believed that his sons were absorbed in pleasurable activities, and would be incapable of managing the state affairs after his death." But while Razia had the support of the people, the royal nobility were NOT having it. After Iltutmish's death, the nobles unanimously appointed his son, Ruknuddin Firuz, as the new king. And his mother attempted to have Razia executed. But Ruknuddin was a shit leader and eventually, several nobles and the army showed support for Razia and made way for her ascension to the throne. These nobles had intended for her to be a figurehead and wanted to keep her hidden from the public. But she asserted herself, dressing like a man and surrounding herself with female guards. She made several important appointments and began appearing in public more and more. These actions led to her overthrow. She married a military general who assembled an army to try and take back power but they failed and Razia and her husband were forced to retreat and were eventually killed. Never the less, she was unique not just for being the only female sultan but an effective leader and the first female Muslim leader. Sadly, her tomb in Delhi is now in ruins and most locals have no idea where it is or even who she was. And you won't find any documentaries or stories about her in Western media. It's truly a shame that such a badass woman had been forgotten by history.

Actually your information is slightly off, because there are a few different terms we use today, depending on the medical condition (or lack of condition) each person/family has. The correct *”catch-all term”* would be *little person/people.* It covers anyone under 4’9 (regardless of them having a physical condition or not). *•”proportionate dwarves”* only applies to individuals with specific types of dwarfism (and those conditions are fairly rare). *•”Dwarf/Dwarfism”* is a “catch-all” term for anyone, with any type of medically recognized dwarfism. *•”Midget”* is a “catch-all” term for anyone under 4’9” *without* any form of medically recognized dwarfism. And to make it EXTRA confusing... *Midget* is viewed as an insult to people with dwarfism. *Dwarf/dwarfism* is considered an insult to people that are “midgets”. But none of us mind the term *little person/little people* though! 🤷‍♀️ Lol

He was Very influential, wealthy and powerful . As were all Royal dwarfs throughout Europe. It was amazingly lucky to have that job in those days for dwarfs .

This was common practice. All the royals kept dwarves for companionship and entertainment. Dwarves had very few other options for housing and food. What was he supposed to do, beg on the street? A dwarf in a noble house was better employed, clothed and fed than a normal size peasant farmer. It was better than being subject to untold abuse otherwise. It is too bad they were the recipients of a lot of mockery for something they had no control over. No one can help how tall they are.

his condition is not correct, his body proportions are normal, his head size is normal, just that he is of small stature. That is a different genetic issue, since he did grow two feet. I understand the blanket view of Little People that history had.
