The problem is that Elden Ring rewards people for being griefers. There is no penalty for disconnecting. The game encourages L2 mashing, particularly to obtain large AoE attacks. The taunter's tongue can be turned off in 3v1 situations so even if you defeat a phantom, you do not get assistance while the host can always resummon or get a blue. PvP simply was an afterthought in this game. I really hope we get a DS3 remastered which again focuses on PvP.

ER in practice is cancer but fundamentally with the addition of stuff like crouch and jump attacks, the pvp has way more depth than previous games like ds3 where you just space for 5 minutes with your carthus then throw out 1 r1

Idk Im hoping for something new, after ER from is practically another studio with twice the manpower and many many times the resources they used to have. Mike zaki said they are working on a bunch of new stuff, giving other people a chance to direct. Why not a small from game thats focused on PvP so they can actually give it their attention and finally get it right before the next mainline soulsborne game. A game where lock on actually makes sense, and isn't just a shot in the dark. A game with 5 player invasions, covenants, consistent co-invaders. A game where brain dead play will get you killed, and skill expression actually leads to a marked advantage over your opponent. If you've lessened the ds3 pvp experience to '5 minutes of spacing and then 2 carthus r1s,' then 1. it's been a long time since you've played ds3....nobody uses carthus anymore and 2. You're either being disingenuous or do not have a grasp on the depth actually present in the game. Yes the game puts an emphasis on spacing, priority, and roll catching, but all of those things allow for levels of skill expression, and reward prediction and planning. An r2 win button to me isn't depth, particularly in a pvp setting. Do I wish the game had crouch attacks? Sure. Would I give up everything mentioned here to get them? Not in a million years.

@@joshuathompson2404 ER has its balance issues but when it comes to skill expression there's much more room for it in ER, even before any hypothetical balance changes. Have you watched a ds3 tourney? its exactly what I describe, whether carthus is still meta or not isn't the point. Optimal play in ds3 is playing extremely passively and only ever using r1 and rr1, really it lacks much depth at all. It's part of why ER is so disappointing lol, ds3 combat was so one dimensional and lame, and ER totally changed that, but it doesn't matter bc ER is mired in all sorts of other problems

No, probably not, but that doesn't mean that it lacks skill expression or depth in spades. As I said earlier, DS3's depth comes from becoming skillful in things such as spacing, priority, and roll catching, rewarding more predictive play and planning. Things like weapon matchups become far more important as well. I would also say that while tourney play may not look as exciting, pvp in DS3 is far more engaging. The ebb and flow of advantage, 4v1 to a 3v1 to a 2v2 to a 3 v 2, engaging and disengaging as your numbers change. And, I'm in the minority on this point probably, but even skill-based glitching that could give you that slight edge if you practiced enough. Things like estus canceling or rkss cancel. Hell, Jee was pioneering weapon swapping at the time, adding even more layers to the game, completely catching your opponent off-guard with a weapon swap in a time before ashes of war. So again I say, calling DS3 'less fun to watch' is one thing (and probably has some truth to it), but to say it's one-dimensonal, lame, lacking depth, etc. is just either coming from a place of ignorance or you being disingenuous in your arguments.

Typical ER hosts lacking brain cells or integrity, had some clown the other day with his hunter army he couldn't do anything without them I could roll catch him by pressing r2 instead of r1 but the game is so well made that I was able to be tagged 100% of the time by that one spell with six homing projectiles and the other guy in melee range
