I started playing again about 2 weeks ago, basically because of me watching your Elite II Frontier playthrough from a few years back plus nostalgia over christmas/new year. From my POV Odyssey did a lot of damage and made the game unattractive for me for a plethora of major and minor issues. But yes, it has become a lot better. Now I experienced it again with a steam alt account I had lying around, never played before, and it's amazing. Even though I've done things I did before on my main accounts, I'm amazed again with how this game draws me into its universe, its lore, its gameplay, even though 50% of time it feels like just handling tables and numbers in menus. So, to make this short: I'd also love to see the game succeed (again) and I look forward to your contributions and your content. Love your books as well. Right on, CMDR.

Welcome back, My $0.02 is that they should recognise their core audience for ED is people in their 40s and 50s that enjoy the scale, the science and the multiplayer aspect. Where I am going with this is, it's hard to argue DW2 was the peak of the game. Adding some lore/narrative and turning that into a semi annual thing would go a long way to re-energise that community. Doing super demanding twitch oriented combat challenges (be those on foot or in ships/srvs) is IMHO not going to do the same. Having said that whatever they release I will buy for all my accounts.

I did very much miss your commentary on things. It seems Elite is on life support untill things can be turned around. Elite is truly one-of-a-kind and to see it go would be very sad. This is just a hopeless hope of mine but I do miss the days when you and the other backers had a part in making things happen in the world of elite. I rarely read physical books, but I did get yours for elite. I'm not sure if you would even desire it, but I wish you could help make things happen, story wise. The world just seems more alive when you can read about things that actually happened and visit places from the novel.

Ok, you got me. I'll install the game again. As for feasible improvements: any kind of story that's visible in the game might be nice. Disaster? Have supply shortages in swathes of space. Security incident? Spawn tons of police. What about a new faction to support (only needs some lore and some ship skins). And so on.

Great to have you back. To determine with any success where ED may/could go from here, one must understand where it has been including the evolution of its roots. Firstly, its forte is an accurate full size galaxy, literally nothing else does that, that can compare (tens of thousands of real people participated in community events, DW's). They must stick with that and create an accurate Andromeda galaxy then evolve galactic travel and discoveries. This Thargoid stuff is child's play, its game stuff. ED is about galactic stuff, accurate galactic stuff. I don't know if FDev has the fortitude for that though. It may take ED dying for someone to pick it back up again with what it knows and does best. I bought my grandkids a telescope, we saw a star, we found that star in ED and we traveled there, landed on a planet in that system and got out, stood on a hill and looked back at Sol. We can't loose that. IMHO

I can't say I'm happy to see Drew back. But not for the reason you think. He's one of the most fascinating content creators on KZbin and it just so happened to be about my favorite game. The reason I'm not happy to see him back is because I kind of left the same time he did, at the end of console development and honestly I've been pining for Elite ever since. And that's where my time with Elite and my memories stay. I will not be getting Odyssey, I will no longer be supporting Frontier development, I haven't followed a bit of lore since the end of console development. The only way that I would entertain Elite dangerous again or Drew's awesome storytelling is if they could at least develop Odyssey for next-gen consoles! Do I own a pc? Yes, i do! But for me it's more about the principal. Frontier development absolutely ripped the rug out from under me, my squadron, our progress, our activities, our sense of community and camaraderie. So as much as I would love to continue joining you on this journey I just can't. And so my fleet carrier sits in our squadrons home system with years of expenses paid for but no one around. I started playing Elite dangerous because I lost my dog and was feeling really alone at the time. Drew (And Elite) was a big part of saving my life at the time.... So I've moved on. My next "lore" wish for Drew? To do a series on the amazing survival game, The Long Dark (or many other games!). That game was my next respite after Elite. So you see I'm not happy he's back because it's making me get all sentimental...... because he's just so good at what he does. And now he has me reconsidering, and I don't like it when someone comes along and rattles my Foundation like that. Thanks a lot Drew for being so awesome, but now what am I supposed to do? 😂

Maybe put one "super trader" at Shinrata Dezra, so it's not immediately available to all but takes some doing to reach (not that elite rank is super hard)?

Inspired by Rear Admiral Drew I sought to open a second Elite Dangerous account...... after 5 hours and £35 spent I seem to be no closer to being able to log into it however. Dear Drew, would it be possible for you to make a video on how to do this (opening multiple ED accounts)? I have a ticket awaiting attention from Frontier so hope they'll be able to help out- I've checked both Steam and Frontier forums and found the advice to often be virtually unintelligible or contradictory to other advice; my head's spinning. I'd love to restart ED alongside you but the technical difficulties that Frontier have placed in the way of doing that are currently defeating my best intentions.

Hang on Drew, FDev have made choices and NOT GIVEN A TOSS for the Elite Dangerous Community, their advice or opinions about the game, what the game needs or the concerns about the current direction of travel. So why on earth should the Community bestir itself to rescue FDev (and Elite Dangerous) from the consequences of choices made?? Rescue ELITE DANGEROUS by all means, and if that facilitates the reform and rescue of FDev (as a bonus) all the better!! I think personally, yer on a fool's errand, but y'know everone loves a tilter of windmills!!

Welcome back Drew. Sorry your house move plans were derailed. Bravo for "doing your bit" to raise the game's profile. Tough times for FDev - I doubt if new DLC can make a huge impact - most people consider they've enjoyed the core game content and moved on. After 10 years it would be time for ED2 to bring in the numbers and revenue, but FDev might not have the time or resources? A new ED would benefit from GTA6 type hype. I'll be following you here on YT. Safe travels Commander...

I'm not sure Elite has gotten better. Playercounts are at an all time low. The Thargoid war ran into the same problems the game has always had: few and far between updates and not much in the updates, and more grind for what little there is. All the same very glad to have you back Cmdr.

@@drewwagar ​ FDev even asked for feedback on the engineering grind around 2 years ago if memory serves. No changes resulted. One wonders who is even making decisions not to change these things when they're evidently needed. Personally though I think investment IS needed by FDev rather than quick&cheap solutions. I imagine the current (presumably small) dev team has to focus on the major content updates. A new team could be hired to focus on bug fixing and the kind of quality of life solutions you (and chat!) came up with. Reviving Elite will take years, and this is the kind of investment that would bear fruit over those years. No Man's Sky went from disaster to fantastic game. Elite's not a disaster by any means, it's so frustratingly neglected it boggles the mind really. Sorry if i'm a bit negative btw, hard not to be.

I haven't played ED for nearly 3 years! Ever since they abandoned ANY pretence at supporting XBox and Playstation consoles, I lost the will to support THEM! Corporate ARROGANCE and CONTEMPT for the player bases became so blatant, many people just threw in the towel in disgust! Now FDev are suffering from a collapse in revenue? ....WELL, HAR BLOODY HAR! You reap what you sow FDev! You were warned by the players as you chased profits over looking after the IP's you had already created. GREED and ARROGANCE killed you, and unless there is a PUBLIC acknowledgement of that and some sort of penance made to apologise, NO-ONE I know will trust you again! Elite Dangerous is DEAD as an IP! Only a NEW IP, that relaunches the Elite franchise WITHOUT those features and trends that broke the "bond" between fan and developer, can ever hope to save it! I miss the Elite universe immensely, but the relationship had become DEEPLY ABUSIVE, and so I left! I won't be back, regardless of how much MONEY, effort and time I have put into my account!

Correct. But Drew is clearly moving on from that. For some, they will never move on and the game is truly dead. But to others, who still love the game, it's no longer about tough love, but compassion for a dying game.

I hear you my friend. But this is about the game and the community, not the company. I don't think it's very likely at all that Fdev would sell the IP (not while DB is around) so we have a choice - move on from the past and try to make the future better... or not.
