Italy, especially the Southern part, is an example of a low-trust society. The distrust between governments, regions, and even neighbors is what leads to political dysfunction, corruption, and a large organized crime racket. Faith in institutions and a believe in national unity are extremely important to the success of a nation. I think you talked about this a bit in your Somalia video.

As an Italian this video is interesting, and correct on some aspects, but I find it hasty and superficial. It is true that our governments expire faster than yoghurts, but you forget that all the governments of Italy from 1948 until 1992 came from the same party, the centre-right party Democrazia Cristiana. This granted a certain level of stability. Tangentopoli is not a generalized term for political corruption, but a specific event: a huge corruption scandal in the 1990s that destroyed both the Democrazia Cristiana and their main rival, the Italian Communist Party. The end of these two political giants marked the end of the First Republic and the start of the Second, the age of Silvio Berlusconi. Now we are currently in the Third Republic. You make it look like all the Italian culture came from the North, while for the South you mention only food and mafia. This isn't true. It is true that the mafias, because there are many of them, came first from Southern Italy, but now they are spread to all the nation. About the culture, you forget the Sicilian School, the start of the first Italian poetry, great writers like Luigi Pirandello, painters like Antonello da Messina, musicians like Domenico Cimarosa. All from the South. Don't worry too much about Italy. After two thousand years of invasions, foreign dominations, plagues, wars and endless disgraces both human and natural we have become specialists of survival. Our country is a mess, but we are used to it and we know how to move through it. P. S. Italy was unified in 1861, not 1871.

So, golpe happened and Prodi sold Italians to EU. He and his party accepted to join euro with a currency exchange in favor of euro, even if our currency was "stronger". Communist, as non-elected party in charge to "guide us until new elections" accepted to value lira as half of euro, so our money were all gone. I must completely disagree with one major point: regionalism is not a problem. The real issue is that money is given to poorer regions without giving expectations as such they have created "braindead" regions that are only kept alive due to subsidies but that is NOT regionalism if anything it is more resembling a centralist system. If it were regionalism, Southern Italy should be incentivized to grow its economy and deal with its problems with way more autonomy which should lead, in the long run, to Southern Italy becoming economically self-sustainable. Together with Northern Italy, it should create a number of buffers which by strengthening the region ultimately strengthens Italy.

Considering that Switzerland has a similar regionalist phenomenon called "Kantönligeist" and still functions well as a republic, maybe Italy should reform its gov system and become federalised. I'm sure this will cool down some of the chaos and bickering among its national government.
@angelat79572 жыл бұрын
LOL That would start riots down South. A federalist system would mean a lot less money for them. You have no idea how many billions Lire and now Euros have been funnelled down there over the decades. Federalism is a long-cherished dream for many Northern Italians. But it will never happen.
@thomasmainsberger3652 жыл бұрын
@@angelat7957 Yes and that would also mean they'd have to pull themselves up and get local GDP growing. There are many underlying but beneficial incentive structures within a federal system, although off its not always beneficial when it comes to harmful competition. But throwing money at underdeveloped regions doesn't do much unless there is a reason for these regions to grow and reform their administration.
@marcone17832 жыл бұрын
The northern regions would like a federal system and have been asking for it for years (it also seems to be possible according to the Constitution), but the southern regions are strongly opposed to this reform. Without money transfers from north to south (an estimated 1,000 billion euros in the last 20 years alone) the southern regions would be in a big crisis.
@xeyepatchh6429 Жыл бұрын
Well, let’s just say that despite the fact that more money has been poured into the southern regions recently, historically northern Italy has been preferred by the central government, and has received more investments, in the form of infrastructure, industrial facilities and so on, especially during the 50’s-60’s as the “triangolo industriale” (Genoa, Milan and Turin) was developing. Things as simple as taking a look at our highway system and how much more developed it is in the north, or our railway system for that matter too, despite both being centrally mandated, should be enough to make anyone realize which side has historically been more “liked”. Switching to a system like the Swiss one, on the basis of all these differences, that again, were not the southerners fault, but crafted by the central government, would just be unfair to the locals.
@nanakomatsu74255 ай бұрын
We tried to do it, since before I was born, and we tried to escape and leave the south as well, but communist said no and always take over the elected party with international support, usually from France, EU in general, USA and occasionally Germany, if it may be a problem for German economy (France and USA interfere for any bumb stuff, while Germany mostly give a shit if they may lose money or power, and not all EU countries always have something to say, but sometimes European Union pressure Italy to change government). Literally EU forced us to keep illegal immigrants, but France have its army at Italian frontier... They patrol borders and you can no longer pass freely them, like you are supposed to do inside EU as European or a person with the permission to visit a EU country. We are basically the only country inside Schengen area that in fact can't benefit from it, because we still get blocked for security/ID checks at borders. France block us and send back all immigrants that want to join their country, but France forbit us to send them back and from sending them to other countries as well. Germany never wanted them, but they made a show in the past to prove that they are working on it... And they kept for themself immigrants with a laurea, child and women... As an italian who spend some time reflecting about his own country, i would say this: one of ouf drama is that we are a unique people from north to south (islands included), but we don't recognize it. Our hymn itself says it, namely that we've been mocked of and stomped by foreign countries because we're divided even tough we are more homogemeous then we think. That famous quote about "making the italians" is impressive but i would say it's wrong. But, however, how english use to say: wrong or right, my country 💚 ❤

I found this video a lot simplyfied and wrong in many points. You forgot to mention the third Italian part, the CENTER: some cities you mentioned are in the center. You also misspelled a lot of italian words, and basically you also made the south look like a poor place with corruction, and the north as rich and classy. While it is correct to say that the south is poorer, is not as poor as it may seems. Also, the north is corrupted as the south. During the covid epidemic, a lot of funds disappeared in the north, and the major northern political party stoled a lot of money. The south experienced the Reinassance as the North, with some cities having more reinassance architectures. Italy as a Country is far as you can imagine from the Yugoslavia state, with of course more political stability.

Imports made up 90% of purchases and increased by 7.3%. 81% of the new installations were of articulated robots (the most versatile), an 8.7% increase. Installations of SCARA robots (versatile range of motion but with a fixed vertical axis) grew by 2.5%, while those of cartesian robots (linear motion) fell 6.9%. Nice video man, i lulled so bard as an Italian. You got a lot of stuff right, nice work! Obv it's hard to describe an entire country and it's whole different realities in a video on youtube. I wanted do add some peculiar stuff! In Italy especially in the north, you have super advanced robotics / ai / cars / autonomous cars / agricultural machines companies. In the city I live in, Parma for reference, there's the big data center for all autonomous cars. Plus it's here that they discovered the neurons that act as a 'mirror' (those that basically let you understand better people, like: you yawning when your friend yawned helped us in the past get alike and form tribes/similar cultures). And then you have the recents quantum physics experiments (like the super recent one on entanglement that I think led to the Nobel prize for physics that demonstrated the non local realness of the universe). To conclude mafia and criminals have been at the government since the re-unification. Italy after the conquer/de -nazification by USA have basically been run by them. For example back in the first republic, the CIA was running the operation called gladio (historical fact check it up!): basically if in italy the left had won the elections, lots of silent cell military guys had to fake a rebellion from the people to make the government fail. After that, under the Renzi leadership, we got bought by Blackrock (biggest investment company in the USA, hold around 10% of the whole stockmarket, the CEO is the cause of the 2008 crisis) so we're always fine with getting in debt! Ps: curiously enough a lot of the heads of the Central Europe Bank are italians.

My family is from the south, specifically Salerno e abruzzo. A big problem is that the second the youths come of age, they move north to Lombardia. Nobody wants to work on farms anymore. When I visit every year my time is spent helping my aging family. The dichotomy between old and young is present in nearly every comune; dissatisfied teens seek better jobs in the north and deep rooted aging rural families lose their next generation of industry leaders, consumers, and politicians. Essentially, the south was a breeding ground for stagnation, both culturally and economically.
