Great overview of the rise of Liam but as others have said, Liam would never have made it to Formula One if it wasnʻt for Dave Dicker, creator of Rodin cars. Dave Dicker was instrumental in putting the pieces together to find the money to get Liam into Formula One. Selling a house alone would never have done it. You should do a video on Rodin cars... a brilliant engineering setup, which included building a race track, developing world class racing cars, on a former sheep station in the back of beyond in the South Island of New Zealand.

I'm not totally against Yuki getting the promotion ahead of Lawson. He has beaten all his team mates since Gasly left and has had a few really top notch races. I suspect however, the fact Lawson has been able to come in with little F1 experience and is already able to get close to Yuki and sometimes even beat him has nudged him ahead in the pecking order. While Yuki has had the upper hand on some tracks, Lawson was mega in Austin and Abu Dhabi. His race pace was really impressive. I think Horner was impressed seeing how he did battle with some of the best F1 drivers and he is only going to improve where as I think Yuki is more or less reached his potential.

He won on debut in Super Formula, something not done in many many years. He very nearly won the championship in his first attempt on tracks he'd never driven. "Started in 8th, climbing up to 9nth." 9nth isn't good enough to score in a sprint and during the actual race Tsunoda finished two places ahead of Lawson. Brazil is a win for Tsunoda. In Austin Lawson drove the better race. A win for Lawson. In Mexico Tsunoda was forced into the wall by no fault of his own while Lawson was careless enough to pick up damage through this "racecraft" you've been praising. He almost finished dead last. I can't reward either a point here as there is nothing to compare. This weekend in Vegas Tsunoda started P7 while Lawson started in P15. Tsunoda dropped two places to 9th fighting faster cars while Lawson dropped one place down to 16th fighting slower cars (remove the dnf from Gasly and Albon and Tsunoda is P10 with Lawson in P18). Tsunoda gets the point there. As far as I'm concerned it's 2-1 in Tsunoda's favour. Far from good enough for Red Bull to switch Lawson into the Red Bull (Red Bull trying to get Collapinto away from Williams to replace Perez shows Lawson hasn't impressed enough) considering they see Tsunoda as the minimum benchmark for a driver to remain in the team. Lawson will have to trounce Tsunoda next year if he wants to be considered for a top team.
@chimeranzl91472 ай бұрын
Collapinto won't get a Red Bull seat, he's cost Williams far too many $$$ already crashing cars, and Red Bull will be very aware of that. Regarding Lawson or Tsunoda for Red Bull next year, the Jury is still out on that one. Two more races for both drivers to prove themselves. Or maybe they'll both stay at RB and someone else get's to be Max's side kick 🙂
@CT-3743_DeadEye2 ай бұрын
@chimeranzl9147 Agreed. Collapinto would be too costly of a decision. In my opinion Red Bull has two options left. First option is promoting Tsunoda. His rookie season was poor but he has proven he's learned a lot since then. Tsunoda isn't likely to be good enough to challenge Verstappen but assuming the Red Bull is competative next year Tsunoda's highs should get him on the podium with possibly a race win (he is strong on a Saturday even if he's bad at tire management). His lows aren't Perez low but who knows how he'll handle that car as it doesn't seem easy to drive compared to other F1 cars. Second option is promoting Lawson. Assuming the final two races doesn't change much in the head to head between Lawson and Tsunoda, promoting Lawson is something they should only do if they think Tsunoda really isn't an option. Lawson has proven he can drive under difficult conditions. His highs aren't Tsunoda high as Tsunoda is better on a Saturday but Lawson's lows are lower than Tsunoda's lows. Other than that Lawson has proven in my eyes to be a reckless driver who doesn't seem to realise when to back out of a fight. With experience that should change but Red Bull doesn't have time to let Lawson learn that lesson.
@chimeranzl91472 ай бұрын
@@CT-3743_DeadEye agreed. So really, difficult decision for Red Bull either way. I think they will make a call based on the final 2 races this season. As a fellow kiwi, I’m going for Lawson. But then again I’m pragmatic about it, if he’s simply too young and not enough F1 experience knowing when to pick his battles, then I’m ok if he stays at RB. If that’s the case he needs to play the long game, be patient and work his way up

It's tough to tbf. Liam is a talent, but is from New Zealand - insignificant as an automotive nation, insignificant demographically and economically with very few global corporations to sponsor him. Adding to this, he's 22; not 20 like Yuki as a rookie. He has less room to cause antics with his bird-flipping - and needs to gain the respect of other drivers on the grid, fast. If Horner (right or wrong) doesn't think Tsunoda is fast enough - Liam is gonna have to obliterate him and that's really not happening right now - Yuki, sadly, has beaten every single driver thrown at him so far. I think Horner will look outside the RB talent pool for 2025.
@OleNesie2 ай бұрын
Bruce Mclaren was from New Zealand. We are not as insignificant as you might think in that regard. There are plenty of rich people here who have money to throw away racing, and Lawson's family is no exception. I certainly agree that he hasn't exactly ingratiated himself perfectly. Red Bull seems to think he has something or the Lawson's do the distribution for the drink here, I have no idea. One thing I can say is that every time he breathes NZ media will run a story. @@Charlzrp Your point? The deal is, the media and youtubers keep hipping him and he still hasn't done squat. Daniel in the last half season did beat Yuki regularly. In fact they were both pretty consistent. DeVries was a disgrace. Yuki has beat Gasly on their second season together, beat DeVries, Beat Ricciardo, and apparently is beatting Liam regularly. And I mean REGULARLY. It wasn't me that made him up to be something other than what he really is. A Rookie. Nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is, making it sound like he's the next big thing. Between him and Ricciardo's Season, there was absolutelly no reason to replace him. And I'm not saying Ricciardo was in great form either. But relax. RedBull will give the second place to him. They absolutelly do NOT want Yuki in the main team. He has done enough already and they didn't move him because he is a Honda driver, not a RedBullaccademy one.

Media keeps hipping him, but the truth is, without pit strategy and mechanical failure, he has,nt yet beat Tsunoda. Something Rivcciardo was doing half of the times.

@@Gray-b6g Yuki was impressive at Las Vegas. Lawson not. Maybe a track not suited to him, may be he's never raced their before apart from sim, may some car setup changes. However it's the law of averages, let's see how he goes for the final 2 races of the season before we draw a conclusion. As a fellow kiwi, I really hope the best for him!

Bit premature to extol any greatness. He has a lot to learn and has not shown any qualities that make him better than Ricciardo. I doubt he will amount to much.

Too busy fighting with Yuki and Perez, didn't make it last year and is more immature this year. Put Yuki in Red Bull and Liam back to F2.
@antelopeslr50002 ай бұрын
I think Lawson needs a full season in F1 to make a fair assessment of him as a driver. He seems immature, say when compared to the likes of Piastri. I’d leave him in the VCARB next year. Red Bull will most likely move Perez on at the end of the year (not sure what his contract states though) so there could be a set next to Max. You’d have to promote Yuki over Liam to the RB team, that’s even if RB are thinking that way.
