The Random, Con is correct. To avoid water getting into the backlight you use adhesive around the glass. Why? If water is slipping by the glass it has a perfect route to go into the backlight layers due to water tension. Anyways the real reason they used adhesive is because of various advantages, not just because apple is greedy.

I repaired so many of these. When you lifted the metal plate that has all the screws you need to push the board down near the flex cable is soldered or you tear it like you did the first time you opened it. Also removing the board and battery with the copper back part helps not mess up the battery. My specialty was replacing the charging port because nobody on this island could do it.

There isn't really any other way to take the batterys out on iPod Touches, there aren't any pull tabs and the adhesive is a bit overkill for such a small battery, he should have used a plastic tool though, you can sometimes slice through the layers of a battery if you use a metal tool and that can be pretty dangerous.

Adam Steven Not true... I have repaired countless of these. I don’t know how else to say it but this guy is a noob. He broke the flex twice. The first time lifting the metal plate and the second time connecting the digitizer. He messed up the battery when he could have lifted it with the copper back. He fucked up the speaker by not being careful or using a little heat. Even his solder joints didn’t look that good.

Thank you for this video, Hugh. I recently had to lift up the rear seats in a car I bout a couple years ago. I found an 8 gb iPod touch under there. It was all grimy and dirty, but after a wipe down it cleaned up ok. I plugged in a charger I had. At first it didn't do anything. I waited for it to charge up enough to power up, but nothing. Eventually I unplugged the charger, and pushed it in and out of the charger port, wiggling it as I did. Eventually it powered up, but as soon as I unplug it, it shuts down. I was looking to see how hard it would be to change the battery. This video has shown me that it's not worth it. If I want to use it, I will have it plugged in, in my car or something.

This happened to me as well! When I took the cable out it had a small mark on the cable inside the ribbon. I found out that it was long screw damage witch was very weird because I knew I had used the correct screw. I replaced the cable and didn'd screw in the screw above the cable, and it worked. I screw in the screw as much as I could before it got tight, and it worked fine. So I believe Apple used a screw that's to long for the spot.
@danieleduca12412 жыл бұрын
Which screw do you mean?

That doesn't make sense because if the screw were too long the iPod touch would have had that problem from the factory. Seeing that it they/it didn't, the length wasn't an issue.

I own(ed) one of those iPods, I bought it when it came out. The home button stopped working so I opened it just fine, then when I closed it, the screen stopped working. I realized I slightly tore the screen’s little cable at the top😅. I didn’t think it was worth the trouble of trying to fix it so I left it like that. I still managed to retrieve all the pictures I had on it at least, I ended up buying another one for around $20USD a few months ago and it’s in surprisingly great condition for being used given it’s age. Great video Hugh!!

Pull the WiFi cable away from the white plastic thing it's stuck to. Once that's done, it will allow you to fully pull the motherboard away on an angle from the housing. Just enough to get a full finger behind it to snap in the digitizer cable.

as an general tip which I do not see very often (and honestly I dont know why...): Before trying to remove the battery for example, get an small syringe and draw up some ethanol... Even normal hand disinfection fluid will do it. Just put a litte bit on every side of the battery. wait 1-2 mins and the ethanol will start to make the gluestripes soft. You can than lift one side up a little bit and again put some fluid underneath it. Doing it like this will let you remove any glued part as smooth as possible. And dont think too much about, that ethanol could damage anything. Thats not the case. Anything else used in such devices does withstand it really well.

if I had to make a guess, I`d bet that what broke the power button was Apple`s brilliant idea of placing the camera screw hole right above the power button cable, so if you screw it firmly into place as is expect of screws, it actually pierces through the button cable

Good job hugh. I tried to repair mine. The soldering part is very critical. At first it was ok. But power button not working the next day. It was on and off when i keep on solder the cable. After 1 week of soldering i let it rest for good.

When you clicked the Power Button and it wasn’t working, I could hear you lightly chuckling “How? *slightly chuckles* I have no idea”
