I can feel their pain. My oldest brother was 13 when he went missing. My other brother was 12 and I was 6. We were playing out front. He moved me and my brother to the back but didn’t say why. He went back out front to grab our toys and didn’t return. Our parents came home from work and we told them he was gone. We called up our neighbors to help look for him. We searched until dark hit and that’s when we reported him as missing. But the police told us we had to wait 2 days to report him as missing. Two, argue infested days. Our parents blamed us, themselves and our neighbors. We finally were able to report it, but they shrugged it off as he ran away. Four months later two hikers were hiking in the Rocky Mountains when they found the body of a 13 year old boy. I can still remember his face. And everything. I can’t imagine finding my brother 11 years later. We were lucky that we were able to identify his body and give him a proper burial with what was left. It’s the most hush thing to talk about in our family. It tore us all apart. My grandparents blamed me and my brother and my parents. There was a huge divide within the family and it hit so deep, that we pushed it all under the rug. There are no words to describe what it’s like to lose a sibling (or child) in such a brutal way. I hope all these boys and my brother are resting peacefully and are still playing together up wherever they are

I'm guessing this was quite a long time ago, because laws on missing children (anyone under the age of 18) - is to report them missing immediately, not even a day, when you have done everything you can, which will take a max of 2 hours, you are to report that. This law has been in place since 1992 in the US and since 1991 in the UK. I'm going to guess that this happened before?

Here is my theory (based on the limited amount of information I’ve gathered): On a holiday, no school day-when everyone was distracted by the election, 6 boys were playing boisterously in their neighborhood. A neighbor complained of the noise so they decided to move toward a wooded area. The 6th boy was hungry so instead of joining the others, he went home. (I really wish we could have gotten his interview!) The remaining 5 went on, but not before one of them stopped by his house to get a heavier jacket-the last time his father would see him. The boys were playing in the woods and got nearer and nearer to the adjacent military base. They found shell casings and bullets on the ground. Intrigued, they started collecting them, putting them in their pockets (explaining why bullets and casings were found in their clothing). Perhaps they saw the signs that indicated it was a military shooting zone. They disregarded them, maybe because they were goofing around or maybe because they thought it would be safe during the holiday. Meanwhile, there was a higher ranking military person who came on base to practice shooting that day. At some point it was said the military actually had record of who this person was, but his name had never been released and he had never been questioned. He had to be a higher-up because only certain officers were allowed to use the shooting range during non-drills. Most officers were off that day because of the holiday, so there probably were not many people there that day. The officer was shooting. Perhaps he mistook the children for animals from the distance or perhaps it was a random, accidental shot that hit one of the kids. (Only one boy had bullet holes in his skull.) At that point the officer may have realized he’d made a mistake so he went down to the area to check it out. When he gets there, he finds 4 boys freaking out, screaming for help, and trying to carry their injured friend down the mountain toward home. The boys may have thought the officer had come to help them. He maybe even did consider helping them at first, but then, perhaps after realizing the magnitude of the situation and fearing the loss of everything for his mistake, the officer lost his mind, flew into a rage and started bludgeoning the boys over the head with whatever tool he had. (The back of a hammer? A shovel or rake? His gun? I don’t know, but the forensic experts concluded it was a tool related to the perpetrator’s “occupation”.) As the boys began trying to escape , he grabbed some of them by their clothes and in the struggle, pulled them up over their heads. Once he had knocked them all out, he dug the hole and then tied their sleeves together to make it easier to drag their bodies into the pit. He buried them and then left. The “accidental shooting” theory is probably one of the most common, but I do have my questions. It would have taken the shooter a while to get down to where the boys were. Why didn’t one of them run home to get help? (Maybe the kids just tried to stick together and help their friend?) Also, the bashing in of their skulls required rage and passion. Why wouldn’t the perpetrator just shoot them quickly and cleanly? I wonder if maybe the boys saw something they weren’t supposed to see and the perpetrator attacked them. Also, one shot and one scream were reportedly heard near the area. This is odd. Wouldn’t the people there be used to shots all the time because of the military shooting range? Why would only one shot have been fired if someone was practicing shooting? And one scream? I’m sure there must have been many screams! Such a sad case! So many mistakes and coverups (and possibly bribes to the police from the military). Because of the publicity, so many crazy people calling in to try to profit or to make a joke-which is truly appalling! Back at that time in Korea, it’s not surprising that it was so botched. If this had happened today, I don’t believe the perpetrator would have gotten away with it. The boys would have been found within a few days, not 11 years later! There is someone out there who knows exactly what happened!

Whoever shot the first boy may have gone to investigate with a few other men that were lower in rank than him. He ordered the men/pressured them to quickly dispatch the boys before they could run for help. Maybe even caught the boys off guard while they were huddled around their injured friend.

I’m not sure why a shotgun would be shot in a firing range and managed to hit a kid in the head. Otherwise this story would have been a good assumption. However, I do believe the military was involved because South Korea has one of the worlds strictest gun control laws implemented many decades before this incident, meaning that chances are, no ordinary person would have managed to get a hold of a shotgun, and it was used by a military member instead. Also, it also must be certain that it did not involve just one person and rather multiple people who murdered all 5 children, because there is no way one person would be able to bludgeon all 4 children and shoot one without some of them running away.

the answer to why the culprit(if he was in the military) didn't shoot them is because the bullets would be accounted for. usually, it is checked and asked where they used it for. coming up with an excuse for one used bullet is easier than for five, so i guess he just decided to hit them instead.

Taekimchi Soo sams, I keep hearing of stories about unsolved cases. Usually it is the police just being lazy. A lot of unsolved cases were solved by other people. There’s a tv program in South Korea that looks into these cases and investigates(they solved quite a few cases, basically by just doing what police/investigators should’ve done). I’ve even heard of the victim in the case relative or friend solving it.

They were likely fishing for information. What had the police told them that they were told to keep quiet? What rumors had they heard? Would one or more of the parents let something slip if they were emboldened by a ruse that they had been given “superpowers” to explain guilty seeming knowledge. The police use these tactics frequently when they are searching for leads.

One of the parents said his wife was effected by the "supernatural powers" the military gave them to help see their kids and they followed her to find nothing what if this was a way for the military to crush there hopes. Since the fathers were traveling for 3 years and were going into debt someone in the military could have bribed his wife with a lot of money to get here to act like the "supernatural powers" were working. The kids were murdered and this is absolutely devastating. Assuming from the fact that only ONE kid had a bullet hole in his brain, he had the possibility of being the one to escape. He had the possibility of being the one to tell the story and help his friends’ deaths not go in vain. He got shot at before he could make it. He was shot with a shotgun, which are hard to obtain. Witnesses beside the hill heard two screams, 10 seconds apart, around 11:30 am. A witness’ mother had a gut sinking feeling around 11:30 am as well. These kids had no reason to run away (Korean Police assumption). They were ages 9 through 13 and had happy lives with happy families. No bullying ever took place. They did not die of hypothermia, as confirmed by the autopsy. Police searched and could not find the bodies, guessing the murderer dumped their bodies there after the police searched so (s)he wouldn’t get caught, as the bodies were found in such an obvious place. It was out in the open, near the shooting range. These children deserve justice and I feel terrible

They weren't slow, the help come as soon as possible but the captain and the crew or the ship is trash. They jump ship and inform the coast guard way too late resulting them arriving late. They told the kids to stay inside instead of evacuate, and only told them to jump last minute, only a few crew stay and help them evacuate. About Sewol ferry accident the one to blame is those crew and captain, since they overload the ship as well. They are very well prepared for the emergency, but those adults decide to be selfish and ruined those kids lives.

the coast guards showed up to the ferry in time to save the people on it but refused to help until the president at the time saw their act of “heroism”. the president herself waited hours before she even spoke about the situation and by that time the ferry was submerged. they weren’t too slow and they were prepared, it’s just that those in charge didn’t care. they didn’t even send out a professional diving team to recover the bodies, a group of amateur divers volunteered

I went to go look at the case and there was a surviving boy, a sixth one, that went home to eat and said he would join them later. This saved his life. He is the reason why I can't believe that the boys "just ran away". If there was a plan to run away, wouldn't you think he would've known about it considering him needing/wanting to go eat first is an entirely random event? There was a rumor that they got too cold and huddled together for warmth, but apparently, the town could still be seen (at night because of the lights) from the spot that the bodies were found, so there wasn't any reason for them to huddle for warmth. 3 of the skulls were discovered to be caved in! There were cracks and holes (!!!) to the skulls and were possibly caused by tools (such as screwdrivers). The caving in the of the skulls makes me think that the holes weren't caused by bullets (like some people suspect). If we knew what patterns the cracks made (radiating from the holes or in other places without holes/more spread out like if you cracked a hard-boiled eggshell), then we would know if it was blunt force trauma and stabbing or bullets. This is all I got with my limited knowledge.

Due to Korea's strict gun law policy it's either a policeman, a hunter or a soldier I lean towards the third theory. I think it is more than one soldier he/they shoot at one kid by accident and then they took care of the others to protect himself/themselves. With the current modern technology, I'm pretty sure they can get closer to solving or a better understanding of what happened, I'm pretty sure that evidence from the case that was found still kept all they have to do is reanalyzed. Touch DNA can solve this case, Touch DNA picks some skin cells on on clothing. there are a lot of cold cases in the United States that got solved because of this technology. if they still kept the items of clothing they could use Touch DNA on them to find a person.

This reminded me of the Macdonald's Boys incident in Singapore. 2 boys went missing in 1986 and they were nowhere to be found even up till now. Some people said they saw the boys being mutilated to become beggars on the street in Thailand. It became a national news when Macdonalds offered S$100000 to search for the missing boys. But the frog boys case really seemed more tragic because the unsympathetic police were quick to dismiss the case and having unwanted people trying to poke their nose in the case instead of helping just makes the matter worse.

The thing that I believe was sad was a movie, song, and book was written in 1992 & the father said none of them did well. He said sad movies didn't sell. Here in the U.S. people would've bought all that information. Our culture loves this stuff. More emotional people.

There are a lot of comments here saying this is a problem with South Korean police but the reality is that this is a problem worldwide. We're so accustomed to watching movies and reading novels where detectives are doing their utmost to find missing people and solve murders that we think that's the norm. The reality is that until very recently, missing children did not really get very much attention from police forces as investigations were costly and rarely rewarding, also you could argue that a lot of perpetrators of child trafficking end up having ties to institutions like the police force and churches and adoption agencies, and corruption means it's easier to turn a blind eye than discover an inconvenient truth. Most parents do not have the clout that Madeleine McCann's parents did and so nothing comes out of police ignoring them or mismanaging the case. It is awful but it is hardly a problem limited to South Korea.

Me and my family visit the village of my mother in Eritrea that is near the mountains .I decided to go hiking in the mountains with my two little cousins.We saw two or three men who looked at us weirdly and we were followed by one so we decided to go.My Mom and aunt was upset when we returned because one months ago a boy was raped and murdered from a sick man in the mountains.I was 18 at the time and I would protect my cousin's with everything I have,but even then it was dangerous.

Those were little boys, too small to run away. Those boys were loved and they knew they were loved! Someone stole those boys. I hope the parents get closure one day💝💝💝

Losing a child is traumatising. When my family lost my 2 year old baby brother, my dad couldn't even speak to people that came to our house and I had to greet them on my dad's behalf. This was a baby that my parents hugged until he died. I couldn't imagine the agonising pain of a missing child's parents, to not have the certainty of their kids' well-being, only to find them dead with all the questionable conditions...
