Thanks for the insight Ari.There are some surprising parallels between what you say and Taichi. In taichi, we practice big movements to understand small movements & we isolate parts of the body to integrate full body unity. All in all we need both & the sensitivity allows us to feel the depth of peculiarities in all areas.

Gifted people are neuro-atypical. Gitftedness and having a high IQ are not the same thing, altough a higher IQ (over 130 typically but can be as low as 120 when tested) is required for giftedness to occur. The gifted brain interprets stimulus and computes perception on a totally different realm, ideation is not time bound, a mix of senses to becoming one (synesthesia) or of ideas (ideasthesia) often occurs, hypersentivity and hypervigilance are also common, deeper sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) is noted, arborescent, non linear, and lateral thinking are also the prevalent mode of functioning. There are other traits and characteristics of gifted people. The literature and research in the US about the subject is terrible, but the advances of research in Europe shows these people are basically X-Men and some researchers actually hypothesised an evolutionary jump, as we now know evolution wasn't a linear process. What you are saying here, altough it is intuitive in nature, meets this general idea.

This is an interesting layer to add here! I like it and it makes wonder, am I gifted? Makes me think back; have I had this kind of mixing experience occur? I think so. I'll pay close attention to if I do in the future. I think I am more persistent than I am talented.

@@AriintheAir It is safe to say most people in the paragliding community have higher IQs. The change in perspective the activity offers probably explains that, as well as the independance and autonomy it require and the contact with nature and the non competitiveness. Research was made with skydiving and they found a correlation. The way you speak and the general ideas you convey makes me think you 1. Are a 'right brain' intuitive and global thinker, which represents anywhere between 15 and 30% of the global population, 2. You function at a relatively high cognitive level. More than 115 IQ certainly, but you would need to get tested and probably in Europe with an expert to get a gifted identification by a professional (you can also do neuro imagery to visualize how your brain functions compared to neuro typical people, which is pretty cool in itself but also helps you understand yourself better) Lastly, the term gifted is honestly not a good term at all as it implies a superiority, which is not the case. Well, kinda, but not really. These people certainly think very quickly (the synaptic connectivity is as low as 2x faster than neurotypical people and can go as high as 10+ times faster) , come with innovative solutions to complex problems and are extremely creative, but 'different' would be a better term than 'superior'. They are not necessarly superior and can actually have difficulties in the classroom, adapt to society, and in the workforce and would normally do better on their own as entrepreneurs. One thing that seems to be the only rigid component to their life and to be the main motor to their life are their values: they don't bulge from them and can find themselves in incompréhensible situations because their values don't align with what they 'should' do, at least what most people would. If they are anti-capitalists, they would rather be on the streets than work for a fortune 500 company for example, if they are vegetarian, they would rather not eat for a few days rather than eat meat etc... All their life is based around their values, not the contrary, which is not the case for many people who make a lot of concessions while going into adulthood. The other main point is the conclusions they have compared to the conclusions most people have. For example, if a gifted teacher went into the teacher's room and said to all the teachers there: 'The curriculum is terrible, it is not the best way to teach our students!' The other teachers would probably all agree, which means they know there is a problem at hand. However when the gifted teacher will say 'We need to change something, talk to the mayor, seek funding, propose a new way of doing things, do a revolution.' The huge gap is going to show here and the other teachers will say 'Ohhh, well, it is the way it is, we are not going to change it and who are we to do so...'. And there right here is the big difference, the majority of the population perfectly knows society isn't what it should be, that a lot of things should be changed and could even name what should be changed, but they won't change it themselves. This is where the big gap really occurs, and sometimes, it takes an identification for these people to realize that they are the ones that can change things and shouldn't listen to 96% of the people around them who discourage them, not because they aren't smart themselves, but because the wiring is completely different. Hypothesis ranging from ethological principles (are we like bees or ants where people are supposed to do very specific things for the colony/hive) to evolutionary gaps have been made. We don't know for now the why of giftedness, but we do know the how.
