although we South Africans declared our independence from the British in 1961, we for the most part still carried a tremendous amount of respect for her. The Afrikaans people have a long and storied history with the British (a not very flattering one), but one thing is for sure; Even though she wasn't our Queen anymore, she was still a Queen nonetheless, and if Nelson Mandela can treat her with that level of respect, then i don't see why we shouldn't. God Save The Queen and may she rest in peace!

My favorite quote from the Queen is when she spoke in Philadelphia in 1976 during bicentennial celebrations: "It seems to me that Independence Day, the Fourth of July, should be celebrated as much in Britain as in America," the Queen said during the ceremony. "Not in rejoicing in the separation of the American colonies from the British crown but in sincere gratitude to the Founding Fathers of the great Republic for having taught Britain a very valuable lesson." Priceless.

I’m American, but my favorite speech of the Queen’s was when she addressed the nation during the onslaught of Covid-19. The former guy’s response was abysmal. I felt more hope & bravery from the Queen than anyone else. I know there’s a difference of option on the monarchy & I respect that but you gotta give her props for how she’s handled a lot the past three years.

As a Brit, I am mourning the loss of an outstanding monarch. It still seems unreal. I think we all realised it wasn't going to be long before we lost her but it still felt like shockwaves hit our country. King Charles has big shoes to fill but he's been in training long enough to know what to do, but if his first speech as King is anything to go by he will be a caring yet strong leader. It still feels strange singing God save the King though!

Latin American here. I greatly admired Queen Elizabeth II. She was a shining example of duty and decency and truly seemed to be a kind person. Im sorry for the loss you and your fellow compatriots. Turns or twists of history or fate. Both Queen Elizabeth's father George VI and grandfather George V were never meant to be kings. They were both second born sons not first. George V's older brother died young in the 1890's and King George VI brother Edward VIII abdicated the throne in 1936 making way for Elizabeth to rule.

I enjoy watching videos about the royal family, because it's part of my family history as well. My grandfather had Westminster Abbey built. He and seven other of my grandfathers held their coronations there. At least five of my confirmed grandparents are entombed within the Royal Vault inside the Abbey. The monarchy and aristocracy has had a major impact on the UK, and all of Europe really, since the beginning of it.

Her death is by far quite sad, and now we undergo a change for a new monarch, something most people alive today have not seen in their lives. Queen Elizabeth has always been the queen for me and many others, and even though she is now gone, she will always be the Queen to me. She promised to serve until her final breath 70 years ago, and did she ever live up to that promise. May she rest in well deserved peace.

Can I ask all the Brits something? Do you all even want this monarchy to continue? I understand why you all loved Queen Elizabeth II, after all she was in power for 70 years and became part of your modern culture and history, but do you see that happening with Charles? Or William? Or do you feel that it is time to finally let the monarchy end, or least disappear into the background? Just genuinely curious what you all think.

@@oliverath4501 Interesting, I wasn't aware that the monarchy had any power over parliament. The perception where I'm from is that the throne is more just for appearances, and the monarchy doesn't really have much say in politics anymore. I guess I have to do some more research. Thanks for the input.;

It’s a split opinion in the U.K. some people think the royal family are a waste of tax peoples money and do nothing but pageantry Others see them as a historical and significant part of our culture especially as most royalty have gone throughout the world and earn way more money in tourism than they are given in tax money to pay for upkeep and security etc I always think that anyone with a strong desire to get rid of the monarchy are selfish as she’s not only the queen of England but of the commonwealth of which most of not all are happy with royals and so if there was to be independence their votes would have to count too which would end up tallying to keeping the royals But they don’t think about any other countries beyond Great Britain
@jfmdevil62392 жыл бұрын
I understand why Queen Elizabeth II was loved around the world, she came to power while the world was still rebuilding from WWII, and quickly became both a face of new hope, and a face of stability. While elected officials around the world would come and go, and times and traditions changed, she remained a constant. So again, I know why people loved her, but do people share that same love for Charles and Andrew? For Willian (Harry removed himself, so he doesn't count anymore)? Are people still okay with these people being special just because of the family they were born into? If so, why aren't all royal families considered special? The Japanese royal family still exists, why aren't they important? I will be the first to admit that I am coming from a place of ignorance on what power the royal family actually still has in Britain and the rest of the colonies, and maybe I am just not seeing their greater significance. But I can't help but wonder whether or not the world has finally come to a place where we don't need Kings and Queens anymore. That maybe the world is finally, little by little, starting to belong to the people instead of the ruling elite. I think Harry saw the writing on the wall, that the world no longer needs royals, and that's why he gave up his titles. So let me ask my original question in a slightly different way. Now that Queen Elizabeth II is gone, should the world continue to care about the royal family like they used to?
