Exactly, and here it is 2020 and the "settlement" depicted in the movie is now a full blown tent city with residents who can't afford to live in LA. Just don't give them TV or too much internet. You can guarantee a zombie in no time.

I have to disagree a bit. By keeping other channels off, rather than watching the trash TV with you and pointing out the mind-numbing consumerism and patriarchal acculturation, etc., she was making it harder for you to relate to those who "need the glasses". People I know in entertainment are trying to work in subtle and not-so-subtle messages, a bit like the glasses, but using the same signal wavelength. Actually, they are like Mic Fleetwood's character in The Running Man, a similarly-themed movie. I do applaud you mom for showing you the good stuff. By the way, do you by any chance go by another name on Thursday nights from 5:30-8pm on the Mr. Sci-fi channel? Your name is awfully similar to someone else there.

I don't know about a remake, myself. If it were to happen, Carpenter would have to be directly involved in some capacity. The message of the movie is just as - if not more - important today than it was at it's release, but I can definitely see why it would need a remake to appeal to modern audiences.

I remember being scared when i first seen this film. Then i found it seeing it again years later. Now days its not funny at all. One thing that really stands out is the messages on the advertising boards telling us to "Obey." They remind me of the "stay at home" conditioning they got going on right now. Put the glassse on and become awake.

This movie influenced me. I was 17 when it came out. Two years later I became a radical activist and did it for 30 years. We tackled weed legalization and climate change. I never payed taxes, instead I chose to keep my income below poverty level so as not to pay for their wars and fossil fuels. True story. No regrets. I volunteered my time to causes that resist the capitalist consumption of my planet. I highly recommend it.

I find it disturbing that the "Obey" fashion line is so widely worn by younger people without knowing where it came from and is even scarier because it can be a blind willingness for them to advertise their own personal acceptance of "the reality" that has been presented to them. It's just one of many signs of their complete indoctrination by media, education, social media and popular culture to view the world in a certain way.

Watching this movie late one night on cable back in 1997 having never heard of it before and catching it on the opening credits without knowing what I was about to see was one of the greatest movie experiences of my entire life. Going down the rabbit hole with "Nada" and finding out that aliens were running the world was so super cool. The only other movie experience that was equal to this was watching The Matrix the first time in theaters when no one had any idea what that movie was about. For anyone who has not seen this movie for themselves it has just been ruined for you.
