I did so much work on the SMB3 side of things, kinda funny to hear some of my contributions. Like the named subroutine at 4:47 pertains to my disassembly. No idea how labels would've looked in Nintendo's official source back in the day, but I imagine they were far simpler. Pretty sure I was the first one to find the unused 2P stage with the coins, at least I never saw anyone talking about it elsewhere. Probably my biggest contribution was the full documentation of the bizarre scraps of the bonus games. Some things had already been known beforehand, but I really worked to try to salvage what little logic was remaining in there. Bonus game 7 is definitely the most fascinating one to me, because it feels like it may have been some kind of world map mechanic. Like you might wind up on completely separated paths potentially. Unfortunately the "landing zones" don't line up usefully on any map, so can't even guess where it may have been used. Also, despite whatever that glitch video was, I can promise there's really nothing left to find in the bonus games. I have all the documented disassembly code for anyone who wants to look into it. What's been shown here is definitely all that there is.

There was a ton of people gathering in a grassy field chanting "Mario, Mario, Mario..." with the camera panning out and that gathering formed Mario's face with the racoon ears that can be seen from space. It was bad ass. And then the move The Wizard debuted using the introduction of Mario 3 as the final challenge between 3 opponents. This was THE game that I never got a chance to play until 1993 and it was special and remained special up to date!

I got to play Unused level 6 (17:48) in 1996 using a Game Genie code I found randomly. However, I created the codes shown in the video much later using an emulator. I originally got my Game Genie in unlikely circumstances: as a gift from a friend of my mom who was a video game seller and had too many Game Genies (or so I'm told).
@kallesiukola792516 күн бұрын
However, someone (David Wong?) told in the comments of another video that they were able to access that level *without* the Game Genie (maybe by swapping carts while the console was powered on, I can't remember), which I think was more impressive.

Object 0A resembles the screws that ended up in the final game's airship levels. Were you meant to push screws at one point? Objects 21, 22, 23 were meant to call "rebound off wall"--so like, during the vs bonus stages? The final game has cards representing these when you bop the other player, and they can be collected. Maybe they were originally meant to have different properties. Otherwise, we also know some very early versions of the game attempted to implement 2 players on the screen at the same time, so this might have been a similar mechanic that was later folded into the vs bonus game. "The status bar is displaying 0 lives which is not normally possible in the game..." Well, not for the JP release, but it was possible in the US release Unused skull tile - my first thought was for world 8, taking the place of the vehicle stages until they decided to replace them with unique graphics. Maybe could have indicated a miniboss, or bonus boss? Alternate wheels: Well you can tell right away why they weren't used. They eventually settled on a black background, so the black wheels and propeller covers weren't going to cut it, and likely didn't look good in any other color.

Honestly, the lack of adequate research in these videos is quite disappointing and makes these very hard to watch. Missing fundamental and basic facts makes a lot of this come off as lazy and poorly researched. Because most of the things wrong in this video could had have easily remedied by a quick google search or just by a single playthrough of the game. 0 lives is just how the game works normally and indicates your last life. When talking about the skull in the unused overworld tiles, it's claimed "there is no telling" of what it was, completely disregarding the fact that world 8 has tons of skulls in the overworld. Clearly and early version of those. Speaking world 8, that "stone" version of the donut block is indeed used in the beginning of Bowser's castle, the elevator platform that takes you up but the final gane uses a different color. In the beginning of the video, it claims that the original Super Mario Bros was released in 1983 when it was actually 1985. Clearly mixing up the years between the Mario Bros arcade and Super Mario Bros for the NES. The Super Mario World video also suffers from the same things. Many incorrect assessments and facts littered all throughout the video. I remember in the SMW video, it was claimed that SMW was the first appearance of the blue coin, despite it actually first appearaning in SMB3. These videos have so much potential but are really held down by these inconsistencies, false information and other discrepancies.
