Picked one of these up for 5 euro. While they are simple and do an okay job keeping your burner safely in place and a pot or kettle etc on top, they mostly don’t make sense as a solid purchase. In my opinion the pot supports aren’t that great and can slip off easy. It also has zero wind protection. It is also an awkward size for packing. In my opinion if you want a simple trangia stand that is light and cheap you should go for something like the bushbox pocket ultralight. Weighs like 70grams, has some wind protection (proper wind protection still needed), folds completely flat, no moving parts, doubles as a wood burning stove if needed, accommodates all pot sizes. I still like this mil-tec stove but i cant figure out where exactly it fits into a cook system. Nice video and review as always. Cheers from Sweden

This is probably a stupid question but some places don't allow fires. That seems to have a bigger firer than my little BSR gas stove. I guess I just dont understand why you would use that stove instead.
@landonashby20295 жыл бұрын
It does depend on regulations. Even here where you can use alcohol stoves if the Forest Service enacts a Stage 1 Fire Ban you may only use stoves that can be immediately shut off Like the small canister stoves. Stage 2 everything is banned. A lot of people use DIY alcohol stoves hiking because they are ultra light, easily made from food cans if lost or broken and the fuel is more readily available than fuel cannisters in some areas. I've used a Zelph Fancee Feast Stove for years. But, I live on the east coast and fire bans are a rarity in my area.

Wonder about some kind wire coil to make a top for smaller pots. Or bend the ends down some. But if you know your using it you will know what to bring. I have ever used those kind of stoves but have considered it. But wind is a problem with even small propane stoves. Great job on the review!

I think it's an interesting product. I do have Trangias and I use them in my home when the power goes out. But if you're talking alcohol stoves for backpacking I think you'd be hard pressed to beat Zelph's Fancee Feast alcohol stove for weight and all round perfomance. No pot stand necessary. If you're even mildly handy you could make one yourself DIY.

Another Evernew Stove and Cross Stand here. Only thing I've run into is it can be a little tippy. @Charles McIver just put a piece of aluminum foil under the burner, it isn't just ground contact, but not reflecting the heat up. Titanium isn't the best thermal conductor, I've had less problems with wicking heat to ground since getting the Evernew burner.

Luke, I respect your excellent and honest "as-is" gear reviews, but you should consider covering simple modifications and fixes that improves things. This gear would be even better by simply bending the top 'legs' to be closer to a 90 degree angle; TBH I can't fathom why they don't build them that way! Gotta say I agree with you on this being worth the cost if you need such a thing.
@Techno_Nomadic5 жыл бұрын
The legs are bent up so that smaller pots are more secure. If the stand isn't on level ground, things can slide around, at least with the slight upward bend, the pot has to move up, against gravity if it were to slide. If the legs were not bent exactly at 90deg and the pot's bottom perfectly flat, it would lose stability anyway. With just three points of contact, more of the heat gets into the pot. Closer to 90deg the arms would start blocking more heat.

Sure its worth 5Dollars I have used one many years and it will fit into a hobo fire made from the round stainless tallish pots from the Swedih Furniture Store and the legs will unfold inside the pot and fit into the holes made into the pot.Yes it then makes a wide cooking ring but two old tent pegs pushed across through the wide holes of the pot will support the maller cups etc. Yes it means that it stands tall with the burner high up in the Stainless Pot but two more tent pegs will pin it all to the ground.Further you stil can use the pot as a woodburner after the Alcohol runs out ? Hope this gives some ideas, PS our standa do not have the legs slopping they have 90Degree bent legs. Cot about 4US Dollar20cents. In Middle Europe CZ.

I've owned this for a year. Price & quality are good, as you say. But: - it doesn't work with my favorite 750/420ml titanium pot set - it's a lot bigger/heavier than say the stand that comes with the toaks alcohol stove and so it stays at home and doesn't get used.

I feel like that design could still be improved. A small built in windscreen around the outside would help direct the heat and cover up the those springs from the outside at least and a small fold out arm like you see on the gasifier stoves on the top bend in the leg would let you rest anything you like on it.
@Techno_Nomadic5 жыл бұрын
Get a soup can the right size that fits just inside the legs, take off both ends with a can opener. Cut to height, make three slots where the legs come out, then on top either make four holes or cut four notches to lay two of those cheap steel "skewer" style tent pegs.

And my Trangia fits in 1 quart Australian, which has a pouch on side for a hexi stove, military water bottle pouch. Its just for coffees and I want it all self contained. Coffee time water bottle pouch 2. Its just too big for my liking. That being said, Id pay more if it pulled apart. Ie the legs had threads in them and it could be disassembled and packed flat 2 rings, 3 legs
