It is growing on me. Still a bit of an odd design, but it looks good in motion. It strikes me very much as being... kind of a support vessel. The way its talked about is its not especially well armed, just really fast - so its like an improved California class.

@TheZacula
@TheZacula Жыл бұрын
It does feel like it's not top-of-the-line, but it seems to have the same role as the original Constitution: long-range exploration with a certain degree of scientific analysis. Not the best at fighting, not the most detailed science vessel, but it IS able to fulfill the basics of either role for a long period of time without much access to starbases. As Mark Southwell said in another comment, it's also designed to have relatively fast sublight speeds; while it isn't necessarily going to overwhelm foes, it can swiftly disengage from threats.

I gotta say I love the Concept of this Post-Dominion Ship being a ship more focussed on Exploration and Science (like The Nova Class) And still have Speed and Size of a heavy Cruiser (At least thats what I gather from what It's Captain says about her in Episodes 2 and 3). HOWEVER, the notion of it being Visibly armed with Old Style Phaser Emitters together with more modern Phaser Banks is just absolutely bizzare (The Designers probably wanted to evoke the same Design elements from the Constitution Refit, but still...). After The Introduction of the Amabssador class EVERY new ship Design (excluding Kitbashed things like the Centaur or Curie) we saw had propper Phaser Banks, not even the smaller Ships...
@andromidius

If you look closely it has three dual phaser banks on the dorsal and ventral of the saucer as well as three phaser strips as well, so six phaser type emplacements on the saucer alone. It's a nice ship. While the inside does look futuristic compared to the enterprise D the outside looks to me like it belonged in an era between the Enterprise B and Enterprise D. Rikers Titan looked more upto date with the rest of the fleet. You can tell alot of inspiration came from the original Enterprise Refit. They even had the view screen sound effects off The Undiscovered Country lol. This ship is a small Frigate type of ship most probably replacing the Miranda class. I think it would of made more sense it being built from and old constitution class. I personally believe that was the plan but they changed it for scripted purposes.

It should keep the same registry number of 1777 It didn’t. It keeps Rikers Luna Class registry meaning it’s built from the Luna. Or at least that’s how it canonically goes. It didn’t. Perhaps because the Neo Constitution (there, I've made my choice on the name) design is fundamentally similar to the original Constitution layout, I can not help but love it. I know several here have already stated their disagreement, that the ship's layout should have been more similar to the Titan when Riker commanded it, but that design never grew on me. I prefer my Federation ships with the saucer section leading, connected to a lower main hull by the dish or a "neck", and two upright pylons supporting twin nacells.
@Emanon...

The design is a bit lazy and "anachronistic" for the current design theme of Starfleet, tbh. It smacks of STO fan service added on top of the DS9 and TNG fan service. Why didn't they just use the Luna class? It's a gorgeous ship in line with the newer designs.

Another great video, Commander Adam. BTW the way how the main deflector dish is sunk in, it reminds me of how the Enterprise-B is. My understanding is, in universe, the bulk of the Titan-A is the original Shangri-La class that was repurposed (and updated) after being mothballed for a very long time. It’s not designed to look old, it is old. Similar to a resto-mod of an old muscle car. Just put big ass engines on an old ship.
@FeeriiEekii
@FeeriiEekii Жыл бұрын
I agree, the official log states that the A is build using the spaceframe of the 'original Titan' which could honestly be both the Shangri'La or Luna, but looking at the very clear design influence and the fact it still has TMP phasers alongside the phaserstrips seems to support the idea of it being the spaceframe of the Shangri'La. Even the saucer windows match up. I'd imagine any size difference could be because of the nacelles and their placement. There is mention of internal components from the Luna class being integrated, but as far as I can see the spaceframe is clearly the Shangri'La OR an almost 1:1 copied retro redesign (which seems a bit silly to me, especially adding the old phasers ... For nostalgia?)

It's just an Excelsior class ship... it's not terrible but I certainly feel like the design team lost its way for the Picard series. If anything with the destruction of the Utopia Planitia Ship yards you'd see less new designs and more of the older ships being refit. It was a huge problem for the end of season 1.... when have you ever seen that many of a single ship design in a fleet engagement? It would be like the US Navy showing up to a fleet engagement with 400 USS Gerald R. Fords.
@CaptainFES
@CaptainFES Жыл бұрын
If I understand this correctly, the Titan-A is using some of skeleton of the Luna class. But instead of refitting the ship back its Luna-class silhouette, they create a new class. Call it the Neo-Constitution. And in that, it's design is based upon the Shangri La class. Now, unless the show runners state that the Shangri La is a sub-variant of the Constitution class and that is why Titan-A is a Neo-Constitution class, the design history of the ship is convoluted as hell. First, why would Starfleet outright change the design profile of an entire ship during refit? Refit the ship like we saw the Constitution from TOS to TMP. Secondly, if the show runners were dead set on using the Neo-Constitution design, a better way to go about it is in an effort for Starfleet to continue rebuilding its fleet after the synth attack 20ish years ago, Starfleet has decided to: A: Take a decommissioned Shangri La classes and refit it to 25th century tech. B: In an effort to save time, instead of designing new classes from the ground up, they are revisiting older classes from Starfleet's history and giving them a 25th century makeover. That is why we see updated designs of the Nebula and Galaxy classes from Season 2. To rebuttal myself, the reason why the Luna Titan had to have a refit was because it was badly damaged. Maybe it's frame was damaged enough where Starfleet decided to save what they could from the original Luna frame and build a new ship on top of it. For me, as of right now, the design history of the Titan is too complex for the sake of being complex. I hope there is still time to recon some of the supplemental information that was released about the ship. Please correct me if I am off base here.
@Playhouse76
@Playhouse76 Жыл бұрын
My understanding is they were just doing a straightforward refit of the Luna-class Titan following its significant damage, like the original Enterprise was refit but retained its class. As they were going through, new technologies were made available and they decided to build a new class out of the ship, reusing the original frame of the Titan and some interior components, which qualifies it as a "refit". In designing the refit, they wanted to move away from the Intrepid-class inspired design that had heavily influenced the fleet post-Wolf 359 and the Dominion War. They looked backwards to the 23rd century for inspiration and seemingly looked back to the original Titan in particular. I would guess that, instead of going with a new Shangri-La or Shangri-La II class, they probably went with Constitution because it was arguably the most famous class of the 23rd century, if not potentially in all of Starfleet history. So, they designed something that looked closer to the Shangri-La class Titan, which itself was a bit of bridge between the Constitution-class refit and the Excelsior-class ships, but named it in honor of the most noteworthy class from that time. You can see the Excelsior II-class ship in Picard Season 2, which clearly takes its design from the original Excelsior class. Also, the Stargazer refit -- which was also said to have taken the original Stargazer and built a new ship out of it -- and whole Sagan class looks back to the past for design influence. I'd be curious to see a Constitution II-class ship. Post-Enterprise-B, pre-Enterprise-C era, perhaps?

This is just an ugly ship. I thought it looked bad in the promo shots and short clips we saw of it in the trailers, but was hoping it would grow on me once I really saw it in action. It has not. If anything, it looks even more awkward and ill-designed. It feels like it's trying to meld several different design eras into one but just ends up looking like a hodgepodge of mismatched parts.

I'm not a big fan of the Neo-Constitution class. It just seems like fan service to resurrect a design that is close to two hundred years old in-universe and doesn't even have a continuous service history/evolution like the Excelsior class.

I want a model of it. 1701-A has always been my favorite and this, especially the saucer, borrows heavily from it. She looks familiar but new a nice mix of new and familiar which is what they were going for.

the connie 3 looks less like a constitution class than I'd like. The engineering hull really ought to have been more rounded, like you'd expect with the class. I don't really mind the gratuitous impulse engines though.

Before Shaw, it's probably that Commander Tuvok took over after Riker retired. Tuvok was Riker's XO in the novels and probably got promoted to Admiral or went to teach in Starfleet Academy just like a lot of Voyager's officers.

I like the ship. I think the story of the refit is dumb. At what point does gutting a ship and re-shaping it to something completely different become less cost-effective than just building a new ship entirely from scratch? This entire refit is something that absolutely no one in a military organisation would do, specifically because the benefit would not justify the cost. So why not just have this new titan be some new ship that they named the titan-A after the last one was deemed a lost cause and simply drag some early 24th century ship out of the graveyard to perform some task specifically for Picard? That would make a lot more sense.
@Playhouse76
@Playhouse76 Жыл бұрын
Really not much different than repurposing parts of old ships to help build a new one. The old naval USS Enterprise (CVN-65) was scrapped and is being reused in building the new USS Enterprise (CVN-80). Heck, they're even using portholes from the WWII-era, non-nuclear USS Enterprise (CV-6) in the new ship.
@teknoaxe
@teknoaxe Жыл бұрын
@@Playhouse76 Not what I'm getting at. The notion that the Titan was "refit" into Titan-A is ridiculous. The Titan-A has a completely different primary section and a completely different engineering section and those sections are connected in each section in a completely different way. The Enterprise refit makes sense because you are upgrading the internal components of an established structure to improve performance without too much change to the established Hull. With the Titan-A, it's the complete opposite. The changes to the structure of the hull are so vast, complicated and ultimately expensive, that no bureaucratic process would have approved of it, correctly citing that the expenses incurred by refit would exceed just building a new ship.
@Playhouse76
@Playhouse76 Жыл бұрын
@@teknoaxe If they're building a new ship anyway, why not part out the Titan to use in the new construction? Either way, you're getting materials for the new ship and not having to expend additional resources for some of those materials.

I can't get over the size of over 550m for this thing. The windows just look off for that size, I at first thought the Titan-A was more like 400m in length. She also reminds me not only of the Excelsior, but much more the Obena-Class from Lower Decks.
