This should be a 10 part series. Awesome discussion. Mike Green is brilliant, but way to optimistic about American education. He's vastly underrating the destruction of our culture and work ethic. It's getting worse, not better.

Was listening to this on spotify when I heard Mike Green say there are productivity gains to be had through homeschooling and I almost fell out of my chair. Widespread homeschooling will take women back out of the workforce in a huge way. Should be obvious that homeschooling is less efficient than having 20 student classes. Goes against one of the core tenants of capitalism that there is value in the division of labor.

Global development actually moves around the world visiting nations. It visited Britain in the industrial revolution, it visited Japan after the war, it visited Hong Kong, then Taiwan, then Malaysia and on to China. Sure, China is the second largest economy but it’s now developed and development is now moving to less expensive jurisdictions. As the US has been and was at the top of its game, China too has been at the top of its game. But development simply moves on! China can’t make it stay in China. Education and engineers with no jobs aren’t going to keep China afloat. They will bleed jobs. Many engineers will leave for Africa to use that labor pool and resources. China has no natural resources sufficient enough to sustain its growth. Everything needs to be imported. Without commodities that are the core of all products, they become a net importer of what is needed for those engineers to work on. Development is moving to Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, and Africa is the last and final frontier for manufacturing. Also, China is losing its population of working age people. It has the second fastest aging population in the world, after Japan. The majority of Chinese successful companies are those that are SOE’s, not individual free enterprise companies. Most of the free enterprise companies are in financial trouble. Boom times are not gone, but are waining quickly. Great debate. And of course time will tell. China needs to develop an internal market if it wants to become sustainable. The problem is... it can’t in any reasonable time frame. The whole world is going to fintech, not just China. Within 2-5 years almost all countries will have digital currencies. China has no definitive lead that is meaningful in that move away from fiat currency. Especially one that is sustainable. Finally, China’s debt is so large that it is going to be a drag on ROI for many years to come. Devaluation is coming soon which will be a real issue for them moving forward. China is not out of the water yet, no matter what it looks like. Especially if lady development is moving on to other countries.
@sandymilne2244 жыл бұрын
@@klepzo :That’s a ghost. Japan couldn’t do that. No other country can or has or will do that. China is at the end of the development cycle, not the middle of it. And it’s the other way around. Development has grabbed China. And it will leave when it wants to.

Dollar Milkshake VS China growth. Thank you real vision for providing an adequate counter argument for the dollar milk shake. Lately, RealVision has become heavily dominated by the Dollar Milkshakes + Bitcoin Narrative. I myself subscribe to these views but this interview shed some light on the other side of the trade. Btw: great conversation on demographics and CYA. I feel like the US/West have bought into the free lunch off of global dominance be it by whatever vehicle you prefer. I do think that this double think will cost us eventually. Also my two cents: labor and technology can be seen as the cost of energy + mechanical advantage + relative cost per unit of human labor = productivity. The real question is trying to figure out where the EROEI of production falls for each country relatively. MMT, debt, and currency games are all just methods of distorting and redistributing the positive yield of global productivity.

To have rising domestic consumption you need young people and a growing population. The one child policy has meant China has neither. Consumption led growth is now impossible in China. Think about it. Every 35 year old Chinese probably a kid to look after, also has their parents and grandparents to look after. They're also looking to save for their own retirement. They're not going to go out on a spending bonanza just because the yuan gained a little Vs the dollar.

This guy may be reading a little too much into the one belt one road project. It's main reason for existing is to prevent the one thing china fears most which is what happened to japan in ww2 a US blockade of chinas ports. If it were geographically reversed they know they would use that to force the US to do whatever china wanted. They they are want to stop being so dependent on the sea to trade and have the ability over land. Although i don't see how that route would ever have the capacity, or be economical to make a naval trade embargo not decisive against them.
