The USS Intrepid arrives in Manhattan

After almost two years of renovation, the USS Intrepid traveled from Staten Island to her home berth in Manhattan to reopen as a floating museum. The Intrepid served from WWII to 1974 and opened in 1982 as a museum. It will reopen to the public on Nov. 8.

I traveled all the way from Texas to Manhattan in order to visit the intrepid. Unfortunately I was on my own without the company of my family but boy did I enjoy the adventure.

When you were on the Intrepid, did the Korean war end before you got to Korea?

korea was in 1950 to 1953, not the 1970s.

I was 10 Year old Flatbush Brooklyn August 1982 I Remember INTREPID Passing by Statue Liberty 🗽Beautiful Thing See 👀as Kid Don't get go 1986 almost got Job as Junior Maintenance my Dad didn't want me Travel Manhattan alone 😢

Out of the 24 build. The Intrepid only has 3 surviving sister. The Yorktown,Hornet and Lexington

It's ironic the 3 ships you named were all sunk in WW2 before the Essex classes came into the picture

Intrepid, Yorktown, Lexington, and Hornet all 4 were essex's. He isn't lying. The Rebuilt later Essex class of Hornet, Lex and Yorktown intrepid was the new boy.
