1000 years is more than enough for a culture to develop with its own names. Heck I’m half convinced any odd names were just Luther having an off day and just renaming people

Cultures have had their pasts completely wiped out and populations raised with new beliefs and new stories in the span of a few hundred years or less, so a thousand years is definitely enough time for a culture to change significantly, if not completely, depending on what actually happened. The difference between feudal civil war and modern Japan is 500 years, and Japan has seen many traditions and cultural practices change significantly in response to a changing reality, even as recreational cultural activities are stubbornly preserved. Vikings ruled Scandinavia a thousand years ago, and since then we've seen the introduction of Christianity and monarchy, the rise and fall of serfdom, the development of science and astrology, the rise of democracy and recently a renewed interest in the cultural practices of the Vikings. American cultures were practically completely wiped out in the span of less than a thousand years, from live human sacrifices in south America to the advent of the internet in the span of 20-30 generations.

I feel like the pygmy incident is the reason why GW won't touch the Southlands with a ten foot barge pole. There's a bunch of really cool things they could no doubt do, taking folklore and mythology and dialing up to 11 while giving it a Tomb Kings, Chaos or perhaps Lizardmen twist, but at the same time there's at least ten thousand people out there who are just chomping at the bit to accuse GW and every single Warhammer fan in the world of being horrible racists the second they do, regardless of how well they do it. It's much easier to just quietly avoid talking about human activity in the area. It's just a shame.

Ok, re: gunpowder - the recipe is charcoal (get from burning wood or bones), sulphur (get from volcanoes or by refining fool’s gold) and saltpeter (from decomposing organic material, like bodily waste OR *corpses*). I think it wouldn’t be too hard for someone to work out a very thematic way for the Vampire Coast to recycle their fallen zombos and monsters back into gunpowder.

Given the existence of a volcanic island immediately south of the vampire coast, I'd assume it to be relatively easy for them to come by the ingredients for gunpowder, even if they might have to fight the local Lizardmen who are harvesting obsidian.

The basic original Black Powder has three ingredients: Charcoal, Sulfur and Saltpeter. Charcoal can be made, quite easily, Volcanoes, both above and below sea level could source Sulfur and Saltpeter can be mined or refined from urine I believe.

Andy mentioned the Brine Wife being older than WFRP 4th edition, i think it's from the booklet "Conquest of the New World", inside there is quotes of Luthor and he talk about a "Brine-Maid".

in on your comment about the mystery behind his bloodline, what if he was perhaps one of the missing bloodlines. There was one who fled south into the southlands, and is unaccounted for. This could be a cool way to both answer a question, and keep then unique and distinct.

I don't know why you were ranting about Luthor Harkon not having Magic Resistance in Total War, Sotek. Because he DOES have a passive ability called "Magical Void" that gives +30 Magic resistance to himself and his units around him.

I hate when people have to bring politics and "muh representation" into something that's supposed to be fun and entertaining. Albionic names can be Vietnamese-sounding for all I care as long as the internal logic of the universe stays somewhat consistent so things actually matter and make sense. The people who say "Lizardmen are offensive" or "names from x place needs to be like this" are the same people who look at orcs and go "that's definitely a black person, and this represents how black people are irl, but I'm not the one who's racist for making that comparison." As long as it isn't straight up pygmies in the worst, laziest and most racist caricature possible, I think it's fair game for Warhammer to make use of it and create something cool out of it that people can relate to without feeling like it's a straight up depiction of them. At some point every faction picking up a European style sword is an offensive misrepresentation of "Europeans", and every faction that uses feathers in their clothing is an offensive misrepresentation of "Indigenous Americans". You cannot limit people's creative freedom by making comparisons to real life and then projecting your own racism and need for cultural apartheid onto the creator of the work you dislike. An Asian person can wear a feather dress and a black man can wear a European style plate armor and it's not racist or offensive for them to do so unless you're literally discriminating against people based on ethnicity, and your made up character in made up vampire land off of the eastern coast of fantasy south America can have a British or Vietnamese name and nobody should care, as long as there's internal logic in the setting to support it.
