It's funny when Elena asks "Why do I look like her?" and Stefan explains that she's adopted, and actually a descendant of Katherine. Like... the fact that she's Katherine's great-great-great-great (....) granddaughter doesn't explain the fact that they look EXACTLY alike. Only identical twins resemble each other that much.

His whole idea for looking into it is that she was a Gilbert and Katherine a Pierce. Funny thing her being adopted should explain away a Gilbert looking like a Pierce when Elena would have been a Gilbert either way if she got her birth father's name. Couldn't he think some descendant of Katherine must have had a child with a Gilbert without digging for it. He was already sure she wasn't Katherine. Edit: But man. Watching this scene for the first time I was like 😱

@CallieMulan when the accident happened stefan didnt know it was elena who was in the car, when he went to save them he then realized it was her and that she looked like katherine, then damon also knew about it too, stefan first he met her in the car, then after that he wanted to know her and thats how they met in high school. btw its totally understandable he didnt tell her the whole truth from the beginning, she wouldnt have believed he was a vampire at first anyway
