This week we explore the art of mind hunting; profilers detail how they use the science of the mind to track down killers.
Forensic scientists work with a variety of methods (i.e. computer technology, anthropology, entomology) to solve crimes which would otherwise remain unsolved, through finding seemingly obscure clues such as tire tracks, bullet fragments and hair samples and then putting the pieces together. Interviews with forensic pathologists, cold case detectives and victims families show the process entailed in each case. Three separate cases are spotlighted in each episode of this series.

To be fair, I think even my grandma could figure that someone who bathes in blood is “mentally deteriorating”. It would be funny if it weren’t tragic, aside from this truly fascinating, I wonder why so many people (like me) are so fascinated by these terrible cases.

Profiler's work is just fascinating. They can determine age, looks, type of work they do, married, kind of family they had, what they drive and other personal quirks. When they catch these monsters, it's uncanny how close they get.

a lot of criminals have an easy pattern, apart from the some who know how to play the game. These days, it is a lot easier to catch them with technology yet they are so arrogant and crazied, they still risk it. Just shows how dangerous they are and the ones that kill in broad daylight are very very dangerous. I do find it interesting that a lot of them do have toxic childhoods, apart from some of course, even parent needs to have parenting lessons and be regularly spotchecked by social workers randomly. and CCTV should be in parents' homes. The social workers should regularly go in with a body cam too and do this regularly over time.

The Profilers are not always right. One I remember was a FBI Profiler who said the guy was white, and some witnesses said the Perpetrator was a white man. But when consulting with a Psychic she said he was a Black man. She told LE how to catch him. And he was Black.

Profilers are also often completly wrong. And when the suspect is caught, nobody says anything. It's sort of like when someone has a "bad feeling", then moments later gets a call that a family member or friend just died. They think they "knew" when the person died. But they are totally ignoring the hundreds of other times they had a bad feeling and absolutely nothing happened. There's certainly a science -- if a very _soft_ science -- to profiling, and it's another tool in the toolbox. But profilers are often very wrong. You don't hear about those cases; they're not amazing; they're not interesting; they don't become TV specials.

@@davecarsley8773 I don’t know if they’re “often” wrong because I haven’t seen any research on that-Have you? (Truly, no snark my friend!) Besides, every criminal is as unique as every other human being. If you have a large cohort from which to sample, the chances are you’re not gonna get it right every time and if you’re using a bell shaped curve there’s always gonna be some who fall on the “tails,” the outliers. Nonetheless, it adds to the database of knowledge, Yk?

“Organized” serial killers are all psychopaths, and “disorganized” serial killers have schizophrenia, usually the paranoid type, and were in an acute psychotic state when they committed murder, hence the “disorganized,” intensely violent behavior patterns. Because of this, I tend to think of this latter type as mass murderers rather than true serial killers, but I recognize that this is only how they make sense to me, and isn’t how they’re classified. Incidentally, the insanity defense was instituted for schizophrenics exhibiting extremely bizarre behaviors associated with psychosis; it isn’t that they don’t know or can’t distinguish right from wrong, though....they can’t recognize what is real, and what isn’t, and act violently due to intense feelings of paranoia and auditory/ visual hallucinations.

20:00 The breakdown of how a child is treated by their mother and father effects them so profoundly ... Of 36 serial killers: By age 2, almost half their fathers had abandoned the family. 26 had a cold or unfeeling relationship with their father. Almost half had a cold or unfeeling relationship with their mother. Nearly 70% lived in a family with alcohol abuse. A third lived in a family with drug abuse. Almost all suffered some form of childhood physiological, physical or sexual abuse. Many of them, as children, tortured animals. Most didn't graduate high school. They were intelligent enough to do skilled jobs. Most had a poor work history -- only 6 or the 36 had held onto steady work. All seemed normal, like a regular neighbour or friend.

Had me at, 'some of her internal organs had been removed.' In the 80s, when I was 16, I was hitchhiking & DeBardeleben picked me up in Norfolk, Virginia. I told him I was going to see my boyfriend. He had automatic door locks (rare in the 80s except for cop cars) & a cb radio in his car. He said he was an undercover cop which even as a kid, I knew that was bull 💩 because cops don't tell you they're undercover, so I was immediately ill at ease. He kept touching my legs asking if my boyfriend does that & asked me why I wasn't in school. I felt frightened AF & wanted to get the hell out of the car, but the lock covers were stripped off of the locks & I needed needle nose pliers to unlock the door. Fortunately there was a 2 vehicle accident blocking our entrance to a bridge & cops were at the scene. He popped the locks & told me, "Today's your lucky day." The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as I hastily exited his vehicle. Years later as a young AF wife & mother, I saw him on America's Most Wanted, initially he was only wanted for counterfeiting. In a storage unit in Virginia, they found a counterfeiting machine/paraphernalia & recordings of women being tortured & murdered. They also found women's clothing, jewelry & various forms of id. Some of these women were found alive & they shared their horror stories with law enforcement as did I after he was captured. He was passing off counterfeit bills to fund his sexual deviance. I'm relieved that he's dead & that I was unscathed.

I can't remember his name because he claimed to have changed and gave himself a biblical name after his first accusation or was it his first arrest? I can't remember the details....but the thing is....they found evidence and coded letters about " little boys cake" and similar and a ten year old, living in the same block, who was known for hanging out with this shitstain ( he " babysat" several boys he abused) was never seen again after passing his house on his way to school.. They found evidence he was a pedoohile, predator AND cannibal, but could never prove he murdered and ate this boy.. He didn't but any groceries/ meat in the weeks after the boy went missing, what was unusual for him.... I want some meteor to nuke this planet, sometimes. Think about getting a burger ad during that case....grinded meat.....turns you vegan forever. ... Or at least makes you don't trust anyone besides your mother and yourself, only one or two piece of chicken breast, at max every 3 to 6 month only... ALSO for the environmental benefits! And I only allow it myself if my bloodwork and craving ( as a sign my body is desperate) gets too bad....(chronic eating disorder for 26 years, so I won't set up even more restrictions, which could lead to a full blown relapse and kill me ) That's what it is for me.

He's the worst. All those trusting, innocent young boys! The adult female victims of other killers, sometimes I think, ``they should have known better'' maybe. Although these in this show are from a different day and age, I am sure sometimes their mothers had warned them against being alone with men? Like Bundy with his broken-arm act, getting women to help him with his books, or his boat or whatever. Wow, I woulda said, ``why don't you get some big, strong man to help you?!'' One time a cop working security at a casino, driving a beat-up little Toyota truck around the parking lot, tried to get me to stop and talk to him, and I took off running. (In the '90's, women knew all about all the predators that went around dressed like cops.) I did get into trouble for running away from him, but, whatever! (He wanted to question me about some theft that had occurred in the parking lot, it turned out. He did catch me, cuff me, push me onto the ground, yadda, yadda, yadda. People say if I had been black, he woulda shot me for running, and just said it looked like I had a gun.

What I learned starting when I was 9 years old. 1. DON'T OPEN THE DOOR just because someone knocks unexpectedly. Verify. Re-verify. 2. DON'T GO JOGGING ALONE. Jog in groups of three or more. Don't go hiking alone. You are a sitting duck! At least carry a firearm. 3. PUT A LOCK ON YOUR BEDROOM DOOR. I have two locks on my bedroom door. And a .25 semi-automatic under my pillow. My mother woke to find a strange man standing over her bed. I swore that would never happen to me. 4. DON'T KEEP YOUR KNIVES IN YOUR KITCHEN. The few I own I keep hidden. 5. ADD A KEYLESS BOLT LOCK ON YOUR ENTRANCE DOORS. Did you know someone in your apt complex or building has the same exact lock cylinder? Ask the police. They know that trick landlords do! 6. MY BEDROOM IS MY PANIC ROOM. Locks, landline phone that can't be blocked, self defense tools. Escape ladder for my 2nd floor bedroom. 7. DON'T GIVE STRANGERS RIDE FROM BARS OR ACCEPT THEM! Hey stay away from bars!

That actually *was* my experience when as a young woman I was abducted in a shopping mall parking lot when returning to my vehicle. This nut had a knife at my throat and drug me into his car which he rigged so I couldn’t get out the passenger side door as he drove to a remote area. When he was assaulting me I started crying and begging for my life, convinced my dead body was gonna end up in a dumpster somewhere, now just a little over a month past my 20th birthday. This guy was *clearly* getting off on my terror and pain. Then I had this very calm, very deep anger; I remember thinking, “I’m not gonna go out of this world begging for my life” so I wouldn’t respond to his sexual assaults or torture. LEO thinks I survived because I played dead well. I think so too. This guy was the angriest person I ever encountered.

Je' Czaja, I agree with you, but “insanity” is not a scientific medical concept or term; it is a legal convention, meaning a state or condition in which the perpetrator, for whatever reason, is unable to distinguish between right and wrong. Being natives of the O.C. area my husband & I know that area well. For the Unsub Killer to have instantly become a full fledged kidnap investigation involving the FBI was it because he crossed into Delaware? Part of Assateague Island all of O.C. are the only Maryland coastal beaches. On the portion of the coastal highway she was taken from he could be in Fenwick, Dewey, Bethany or Rehoboth Delaware in a matter of minutes. Unless he traveled back up what would've been the original highway into Ocean City that he most likely used when he arrived. That would keep him in Maryland but riding that Mason Dixon line. Pulling off any road to the North would've crossed state lines into Delaware.

Why are they leaving most of the information about Chase out?.. Gacy was dangerous. No where near the danger of chase. Both were allowed to kill freely due to the shoddy police work and *bad parents,.. Gah Edit-*context. Bad parents of chace and Gacy. Chaces parents decided that they wouldn't get him mental health help and kept him off medication. Even after knowing fully what he was doing. Gacys parents enabled him, supported him... Financed him. Lied for him. RIP They need to explain what he did...

Just watched this video for an assignment on Gacey and I wasn’t really thinking to much about what the video was say and wasn’t bothered that they never said Gacey once until I got half way through and realized “What’s the other half of this if the case is already done?” and then realized I wasted 30 minutes listening to the wrong murderer I literally finished the entire assignment with the wrong killer. Why is there 3 cases in one video? And why does it not mention it anywhere that there’s 3 cases in this video and why didn’t my teacher tell me that there’s 3 cases and u should skip to the 3rd one to complete the assignment I’m so mad that I wasted so much time and energy. If u are in the same problem Gacey’s case starts at 33:09.

Emerald is saying you hear the murder of females in the beginning. Which means it's not gacey as he killed only males

Whether or not these evils grew up with their parents, or divorced, they were really born evils. Stop the crazy “pschychpath” reasoning. These killers are evils in human form.

Love all these crime dramas but I can't just watch everyone of them because I have to have a good narrator with a story voice because it make the document more better..
