Tyson is a boxing scholar. Cus and Mike would watch all the fights on film going back to the early days and talk about how he would have to fight to defeat them in a hypothetical scenario. Mike Tyson can recall damn near every significant fight fight round by round from the last 100 years by memory.

He read the book that Jack D. wrote. Championship Fighting. It was a different way of throwing an upper cut. Hip movement is vital. Kind of like doing a knee. You have to posterior tilt your pelvic griddle (core strength), which is connected to the spine, which is connected to the shoulder griddle. By the time the glove hits its mark you have charged up some power. It's called summation of forces. The basic definition of the summation of forces is: when all body parts act simultaneously in practice, the strongest and lowest body parts around the center of gravity move first, followed by the weaker, lighter, and faster extremities.
@thomasdr08

Is that why he was so adept at reloading so quickly with the body shot, uppercut combo? The amount of power he had in both of those punches was remnant of a piston.

@@backbone93 My dude, all respect to Marciano, but he would've gotten murdered. Tyson had better training, technique, athleticism, power, speed, stamina, defense, etc. Tyson was an all-around upgrade to Marciano. Perhaps Marciano had the better chin (it's hard to tell because Tyson's head movement was so good he rarely got hit), but either way, Tyson's power completely overwhelms Marciano's chin. So who had the stronger chin is an irrelevant argument, because if hit cleanly, Tyson's going to one-shot you regardless.

He was technical, but a prime tyson would have been too much for ali.Tyson was way too fast for any fighter period!Ali was caught and rocked by much slower opponents than tyson. Tyson's sneaky hooks and uppercuts would have found their mark! I don't care what people say! You are all delusional if you think ali would have escaped this! Tyson would have killed him or any other fighter for that matter! He would have knocked him out unless ali could get him past the sixth round.From 1 to 6 it's in Tysons favor.

@FezDbiZZle yes he did forget to defend and fight. He stopped all the fantastic footwork and combo punching that made him so good. He also stopped leading with that pile driver of a jab that set him up for so much more and his killer body shots dropped by 70%. He began throwing 1 punch combos looking for easy knockouts. Tyson was notorious for training incredibly hard for every fight he ever had except for the Douglas fight which he only trained 8 days. So you claiming he stopped training is 100% wrong. Even his opponents to this day say he was a driven training machine. He got lazy against Douglas though but that was the only time in his career he did not train for a fight properly.

Who he is today, makes him one of the most inspiring characters of my life! I've always had compassion for this man even when he was at his worst. Something about him that made me understand his rage and emotion. However, I've always said that after he left Rooney, things went down hill, which sometimes needs to happen for people until they find their authentic selves and can live in peace. I come back and watch this video every so often and it honestly brings me close to tears everytime. Watching Prime Tyson fights is a transcendental experience. To see a man move with such intent, purpose, and power, it's a kind of control and mastery of the body and mind that most of us will never experience. He was like a walking flow state back then. It's great to know that all these years later he's really started to tame his psychology too, considering the mental hell he went through. He's like a 21st century sage, and like all the best sages, you'd never tell from the surface. Wisdom that's more alike to scripture than to an encyclopedia, and I'm not a religious man.

He didn't peak early we never got to see his full potential. Unfortunately after cus died he didn't have the best people in his camp. Peak tyson would've still had his crazy peekaboo style but cus or a new good trainer would had him adapt around the fighters who's trainers clued in on how the foot work os a death trap if you don't know how to counter it. Why tyson lost to dudes who then lost to dudes tyson has easily beaten. Tyson was kinda like Ali more unique style very perfected that you needed to actively counter. Problem is, if tyson had simply thrown in South paw stance or something similar and switched up his peekaboo slips for a move open Bob and weave Ali style but still staying tight ish or switching between more open and tight he could've easily adapted his style kept the foot work concept but had all the angles and set ups to come at you with. Plus give his planted foot work which helped his power and his speed. A peek fully trained out tyson would've been a much better fighter than what we saw towards the end of his career. Also would've had the edge of upping his peekaboo style as far as less unneeded movements with better accuracy with slipping in that tight position. Imagine tyson stepping off to the same right side he did but this time it was his power hand throwing fast south paw strikes to the head with a cross that prevents you from firing back and then a full power body mechanics left into the body. Or switching for the left side and using his fast power hand for shit.

I'm sure Tyson knew it also. He had to be cautious. One miscalculated upper cut and it could have Killed Rooney.

5:28 Imagine being this guy. Just throwing literally everything you have at a target as massive as Tyson, and it has absolutely no effect because every single attack misses and then he one shots you. When that guy woke up, I bet he wasn't even mad, just impressed. But like a little mad. But mostly impressed.

The beginning of the end for Tyson was when he left the Cus d'Amato / Kevin Rooney camp and went with Don King. I believe if he had stayed, he would've retired undefeated and the greatest boxing champion in history. Once he drank the Kool-aid that he was unbeatable and could party and not train, he was done.
