Gorgeous. As a Verve fan, I have intensely mixed feelings about their later work, but this track proves that the kernel of what made them great was still there. I think towards the end they just polished everything a bit too much.

what really proves that even further is the b-sides from the era. those with a few select tracks from the album itself ("Judas" included) are very much my favorite stuff from that time of the band

Nothing comes anywhere close to the verve when they are in full flow. Makes you wonder wether Si, Pete and Nick ever thought of working together without Ashcroft. Crying shame that there’ll probably never be another verve record
