Are you looking for a super easy QAYG block using strips of fabric? This diagonal stripe block is beginner friendly but so very versatile in the designs and patterns it can make for so many quilting and sewing projects!
I’m using precut 2.5 inch strips of batik fabric but you can make this using scraps of 2.5 inch fabric or other scrappy fabric strings to make a quilt block that is just as unique as you are!
In this video, I'm using my vintage Singer 401A sewing machine and a walking foot. You don’t need a fancy sewing machine or lots of tools and experience to make these beginner-friendly quilt as you go blocks!
You will need:
- A walking foot or even feed foot for your sewing machine to keep the layers moving through the sewing machine evenly.
- Batting cut to 9.5 inch squares
- Your favorite thread
- Fabric scraps or pre-cut 2.5 inch strips
- Binding fabric strips
- Backing fabric cut larger than your pieced quilted top
- Scissors and thread snips
- Iron and ironing board or pressing mat
- Cutting board and rotary cutter
- Pins
This QAYG project is a great gift that you can personalize very easily with the fabric you choose, and a scrappy diagonal stripe design takes no pre-measuring of fabric and the simple straight line quilting means that you can make a number of these blocks in an afternoon.
If you want to see other quilt as you go projects for beginners or more no scrap left behind projects, let me know in the comments!
