I didn't know that Persona was so complex even without the combat. As someone who hasn't played Persona that time management aspect caught my eye. I haven't seen anything like that in any of the games I play.
@dyache6 ай бұрын
Persona 4 and 5 are great in this matter because they even give you the deadlines on dungeon crawling objectives, which if failed lead to game over, and it forces more thought out of the player about which activities he shall do
@Jylstin5 ай бұрын
I dare say persona’s time management and Slice of Life Gameplay is Waaaaaay more fun than the Combat. Everytime when I realise I need to level up and do some combat and dungeon crawling, I look forward to those way less because the Calendar system encourages and motivates you to actually be proactive and strive for self improvement in the real world
@MrShadic9995 ай бұрын
Another layer of complexity can be found in Persona 3 FES where you and your party members can get tired/sick from overworking themselves, but on the flip side by taking care of yourself you can achieve Great status which boost your performance in combat (while tired/sick hinders said performance), you can also screw up your relationships to the point they don't want to hangout with you anymore, and if you cheat you can be caught at any point thanks to the jealousy mechanic for female social links (to avoid getting them jealous you should hangout with them more or less equally to keep them all happy) Be warned that P3 FES' combat is harder than the recent ones so feel free to choose easy mode on first playthrough

imo the life sim aspect is the best part of the series, the combat to me is good in smt
@Lockadin3 ай бұрын
@@Jylstinsame. I love the combat but I do tend to find myself actually enjoying the slice of life calendar system more than going through the dungeons. Especially on repeat playthroughs. To me sometimes it feels like my dungeon runs are just to split up the social sim aspect into chunks.

Persona games are built so well. Something not a lot of people talk about is how well "built" they LITERALLY are. Persona 5 Royal and Persona 3 Reload show this best as they are the most recent, but they dont take a super good or modern computer to play. When there coded and made, its done in such a clean way that there isnt tons of unnecessary junk like in games such as Jedi Survivors or Watch Dogs, BEHIND THE SCENES that your device has to process. Persona 5 Royal is 40 gigabytes, has 100-200 hours of gameplay and runs at 60 or more quite easily. I know its a pretty subjective point since not everyone has the same tech, but I think its awesome that its something that gets taken into account since I first played Persona 5 Royal on my 10 year old Xbox One, and never had issues. If i did, I might not even have played it! I really like the video, and Im really glad you touched on the games menus as I find them to be as good as the gameplay sometimes. Nice video! Hope you keep the quality :D

Agreed! I've always appreciated this and when Metaphor releases in October I know I'll be able to play it and it won't eat all my free space. Games developers need to stop upping the graphical fidelity and focus on art direction and optimization. You shouldn't need a mega pc to play these games. I find myself constantly clicking on everything interactable object or person just to listen to what they have to say. It is so charming how you can see the same reoccurring people walking around town, hanging around the school hallways, or standing in the station. Throughout the year their dialogue will constantly be change, sometimes they react to what your team did, or they will ramble about their own problems, or they will talk about something else entirely. You could notice this in all games, in P3Reload near the end of the game you will start increasingly seeing more brainwashed people standing around, or there will be more background people lying around in the mall or near the shops. In P4Golden its even more obvious, people are wearing masks now, the people you know are disappearing or becoming nervous from the ensuing fog, the streets feel lonelier and the music is chilling.

I'll say this regarding social links, persona crafted a unique kind of character developing, where the side characters arent extraordinary at talking or like profound, but due to you spending time with each characters, it makes the side character so much more meaningful and much more vital to the overall story. Idk how to describe it, i felt a lot of written stories side characters just got so limited development while due to the nature of persona gameplay, both characters and story can develop fully it's all due to the desigm of the game. Personas gameplay design is just so awesome for a heavy narrative game

First of all, great video. I think that P4 is the most relatable Persona game, going to the countryside nothing to do but spend time with relatives and friends, P3 feels weird in the atmosphere and i don't know how many people can relate to living all alone in a city just to study, even more being a highschooler, nonetheless the characters and ambience are peak. And then there's the mainstream boy which i love, don't get me wrong, it added so much flare and spectacle, a bigger city to explore and do things with, a set of social links that are not only interesting but better than the main story, feels like the culmination so far of how many good things we had through P3 and P4. What i think i want to say is, thank you for your video, from a guy that loves games that spent too much time in building connection and this series is full of them.

Persona is just... A whole complete package. This game is definitely what they call an "Experience". A game that isn't only single mindedly focusing on one task or goal but one that gives you the chance to explore in the truest sense. It's not just us, running around the map and combating enemies or watching the stories unfold. No, in Persona you, as the protagonist, is living A LIFE. You get to go to school, you do mundane activities like study, enjoy food, play minigames to built your social stats and you also socialize. You built friendship or romance. Hang out, go on dates, do stupid or fun things with other characters, all while also working towards your end goal or main mission. It's an RPG, an adventure game, a visual novel, a time management game, a stat building game, all these things easily build into tens or even hundreds hours of gameplays. You get to watch you character live a life, watching everyone else besides the protagonist struggle with each of their own problems, growing up and moving on, making them not just an "NPC" but a living character that became a part of your protagonist's story. All the cool references or use of mythologies and legends, the complex use of Carl Jung's study in theory of personality as the main theme of the entire franchise. It's just, honestly a rare gem amongs all the amazing game out there. This franchise is not for everyone but when it is for you, then it's gonna be one hell of an experience.

About Persona being "maddeningly addictive", as you put it, I 100% agree. I got P5R in November of 2022 in a Steam sale. Be the time the yearly recap rolled around, it was my most played game of the year. I finished this 130 hour game in less than two months. I just got completely sucked into the world of Persona. When I eventually got to 4 and 3, I got sucked in all over. I once saw a Reddit post, showing a conversation between someone who recommended Persona to the other person. Upon playing it, they replied "it's like meth but if meth was anime", and I couldn't summarise these games any better.

My mind was blown when I played persona 3 a couple weeks ago. Going into it I wasn't expecting much out of it because I'm not really into RPG's. However, after playing I can say that this is probably the best game I have ever played. The plot, characters, persona designs and the music all made me feel something no other game has ever made me feel. I barely slept the first night and woke up early to play it again. About 30 hours of playing I realized I had made mistakes in my playthrough so I restarted the game again but that didn't bother me because I could experience this masterpiece again. Now I've just finished it and I feel like I've hit my peak as a gamer. The crazy thing is that this is the PSP version I was playing, I wonder how it will be playing the newer titles.

These games are some of the most beautiful in visual and audio aspects. This is especially true for persona 5 games and persona 3 reload. I’m getting pretty close to finishing persona 5 royal for the first time. I will then probably the play Persona 3 Reload. I think I’ll get to Persona 4 Golden too, but of the 3 it is the worst in visual and audio from what I’ve seen. I also play persona for other reasons. While it might be in high school and it may be kind of like Pokémon, it is a much more mature franchise and puts effort into good stories that only add to the immersion. Pokémon has never given us this kind of art in all of those aspects of story, music, and visuals. I’m so glad that I chose to stop playing Pokémon and start the Persona series.

The only exceptions I make are when a social link is easy to fumble like Ai's, or the fox's social link because some of the quests you get from it are kind of annoying.

It’s a pretty common thing where, when people online or on YT talk about Persona, they only talk about the “main trilogy”, being 3 4G and 5/5R, and nowadays FES is pretty much erased from history in favor of Reload, so they put Reload there instead. 1 and 2 pretty much don’t exist in the eyes of most people online lol, when people talk about the “vibes of Persona” they mainly glaze 5 or Reload and barely graze 4 instead of talking about 1 and 2/EP, which I guess is understandable since they’re even older than FES.

For me P5 is the weakest of the 3 in all aspects but combat. It was the reason I got into persona and its the one I dont think I will ever replay

P3 is my favorite out of the 3 with P5 an inch behind. But P4 is the most over hyped persona game with every Redditor recommending it. Hopefully people play P4 get disappointed and jump back into the peak that is P5 and P3
