A 60's group moving into the 70's. You can hear the signature Creed/Bell style and sound- very much like their work with The Stylistics. I don't remember this one, but it definitely takes me back to those wonderful 70's summer vacations from school. Good times in the neighborhood. What a wonderful song that, unfortunately, seems to not have become a hit. It's the basic story of just about every group in history. You get a group that thrives in one era and then struggles to continue to fit into the next era. The Stylistics were already hitting with this sort of material and sound, so I wonder if the public felt there was no room for another group doing the same thing. Even if the song is as marvelous as this one. A new favorite, thanks to you posting it here. And much appreciation for the link for more information on this group.

The lead singer Ricky Owens was the first to replaced Eddie Kendricks. According to the last surviving Temptations founder and leader Otis Williams, Ricky was fired after uneven performances His nerves simply got the best of him. That’s when the Temptations got Damon Harris to replaced him. Ricky returned to the Vibrations, and kept performing until his death on December 6th,1995.

This song was also recorded by The Stylistics on their "Rockin' Roll Baby" album (1973). Both versions are beautiful. The arrangements are different with this one having a prominent lead flute melody that skips around. And wow, he was very tall compared to the rest of the group unless that's just a camera illusion. I love watching these rare soul performances.

Hi, Venus.. Bill here. Just a question : Do you know who recorded this song FIRST ? Was it THE VIBRATIONS? or THE STYLISTICS ? I know that the Stylistics recorded it on their album " Rockin' Roll Baby", but that album, and The Vibrations' single , were both released the same year. (1974) How did The Vibrations get the single release on this song instead of The Stylistics ? Also what happened to the group's OTHER (and main) lead singer, Carl Fisher ?
@ILMJXXX4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill...Stylistics released it first back in 1972 on Avco records as the flipside to 'I'm stone in love with you' Here is a link to a site that goes into detail about the history of the group www.uncamarvy.com/Jayhawks/jayhawks.html ...note the link says Jayhawks? Vibrations recorded under many names
