This one treads a very fine line tbh. She deliberately misled police and then went back and forth between him and her other boyfriend AFTER she'd formally accused him of crimes to the police. The police aren't clairvoyant, they're entitled to form judgments based on the known fact they're being lied to. Obviously the murder is a heinous crime and the perpetrator deserves everything he gets, but from a policing perspective it's getting dangerous now to suggest they should just be able to disregard lies and willing participation on the part of a female. Just like everybody else, if women want a reasonable expectation they'll be believed by police they do have a duty to be honest in their dealings with them. If they're not, they can reasonably expect worse treatment and outcomes. That's just common sense.

We differ because you'd like for her to be allowed to lie to the police AND STILL have the benefit of being treated as though she was a person who was honest with the police. Which-at the risk of stating the obvious-is a very silly state of affairs. You're the misogynist because you want women to be treated like children. As though they're not responsible for lying and need preferential treatment. Far from being a misogynist, I would like women to be treated equally. If a man was having an affair and had been found to be lying to police, police would then necessarily have to be sceptical of further reports he made about the person in question. Particularly if he was then having FURTHER consensual relations with that person AFTER he'd made the reports to police. It's completely separate to the issue of the murder. It's just how human nature works. If you think that's misogynistic, you're not only wrong, but you're asking for a completely different standard to be applied to her because of her sex. She decided to cheat on an apparently nice guy with a psychopathic narcissist. I am not saying she deserved it, far from that, all I am saying is it would not have happened if she haven't decided to cheat on her boyfriend. She also lied to her boyfriend even after the fact, as well as the police that she wanted to help her. See kids, cheating on and lying doesn't pay off. It can get you into trouble. Second edit: Wait, she then broke up with her loving and supportive boyfriend in order to return to her stalker and abuser? Wow. The things that first cop said were all true. He had no reason to believe she is in danger. She was lying and hiding important things from the police, and Michael was providing evidence that went to his favor. She made so many mistakes, one after the other, and her demise was only a matter of time unfortunately.

@@jessicataylor7174 That's not true. She could have anybody in the room that she wants to. The police don't have the authority to force someone out of the presence of another person, unless there are some kind of exigent circumstances. If she was really concerned, then she could have gone to the police alone at any time. She could have called them to clarify her story. There are a number of steps that she could have taken outside the presence of anybody else to have this situation ameliorated. But she didn't. With all due respect, your mom has no business telling you, at 24, what you can and can't do with the money you earn. That's way too much.

What a travesty of justice. Shana reached out and did everything they tell a victim to do, keep records, obtain proof, basically do your own investigation and she was still let down in the most tragic of ways. The outcome should not be here dead, he should have been jailed and not able to continue his harassing campaign. I can only imagine the fear she had and how cornered she felt with LE not helping her but punishing her. This is so sad. My heart aches for what she endured

@@JeremiahLOsborne She literally tied the hands of the police by lying to them about the nature of their relationship.

@@TheLikenessOfNormal exactly. When the police find out that you've lied to them, when you make a future claim, they're going to look at you as though you may be being dishonest. It's called human nature. People expect you to do the same things in the future that you've done in the past. Because that's how people are. She lied to the police from the very beginning. And when they found out, they followed the law. They did the job that we paid them to do. It's not their fault that the information they were given was false. It's like blaming the weatherman for the rain. There's only so much they can do.

Not only did she lie to the police, but she cheated again on her boyfriend by getting back with the guy who was harassing her. She also met up with said guy in a hotel. SO no she wasnt doing everything.

We live in a culture of total lack of accountability. Of course she didn't deserve this, but she started this whole ordeal by playing with people's emotions.

I found myself siding with the cop, from his POV, she was wasting everyone's time. She kept going back to him after some of these reports, so it's like WTF?

When I was a young single mother of 2 young boys, in the late 80's, I was stalked mercilessly and relentlessly by a neighbour. When I hear stories like Shana's it makes me so grateful to the police officers who I first talked to and who took me very seriously from the very beginning. The neighbour was served with a restraining order, and I was told by the police to call them as soon as he broke the terms of the order, which included having to stay a certain distance away from me, my children, and our house. One day when he decided to stand outside the house, I called the police, and he was immediately arrested. Again, I was lucky that the Crown Prosecutor (I live in Canada) decided to press charges, and that, although the neighbour pled guilty, the judge sentenced him to 2 years in prison. Luckily, after his sentencing, I never saw him again. Looking back, and hearing cases like this, makes me realize how rare my case was, especially for the 1980's. It was almost a miracle that everyone involved in dealing with my case were on the same page, and took his stalking and harrassment of me so seriously...the police officers, the Crown Prosecutor, the judge who issued the restraining order, and the judge who sentenced him to 2 years in prison. Even his own lawyer, who convinced him to plead guilty.
