Hi Rusty! Thank you for answering Dorothy’s question so honestly because I was also wondering the same thing. Although I’m not quite 55, I am researching safe places in Florida to retire and find your videos to be quite helpful. Many thanks for taking time in between golf and Pickleball to create and post videos. Cheers!

I did the lifestyle visit in May. Spent every evening at Brownwood listening to music, which seemed to be different every night. First thing I noticed was all the old people... until it occurred to me that many are my age (mid-60s) dancing. I guess I'm one of those people that doesn't recognize their own age until they look in the mirror and go EEK! Second thing I noticed was something I was told, if you are not making friends you have to be hiding. I met so many really nice people during my week here. Not just met, but enjoyed talking to, exchanging life experiences, etc. Third thing I noticed was people were so relaxed, which I attribute some to the Happy Hour that seems to start at 11 a.m., some to the fact many people, like us, have grown kids that are off "overhead", many are retired, and most of our earlier life stress are behind us. I subscribed to your photography channel, but seems a bit dated. Talk about the photography clubs, I assume you joined a drone club, etc.. What have your club experiences been like?

Yes to dogs. When i came on my lifestyle visit i intended to board my lab, but she got sick last minute and couldn't be boarded. Luckily, when i called the villages they searched and found a place for me and my dog, ( i think there was an extra cleaning fee) and everything worked out. She had a great time. Just call ahead first.

Hi Rusty, that was a very good answer you gave to Dorothy. I have lived here 7 years and this was one of the best decisions I ever made. We are all here to live our lives enjoying participating in the many amenities here from sports to classes in art and everything in between. I've met a lot of wonderful people of all backgrounds and ethnicities. If you participate in the "Lifestyle" visit, you will get a feel for what it is like to live in this beautiful community. Did I mention that I love living here?! 😎🌴😄

Thanks Theresa, I really appreciate your perspective and the comment. Sometimes its hard for me to express myself in these topics with getting a bunch of people jumping on me. Most people that live outside The Villages just do not understand what it is like to live here. Just not the same outside the bubble. With that said...there are always the exceptions to the rule. Up in Philadelphia and just realized you were moving from Philadelphia. I was in Gainesville, Florida, for 2 1/2 years on a bit of a hiatus from Philly because I was running out of work here, aside from a 'crazy' experience that began in 2011. But, had to return. long story short, stumbled upon these videos. Drove past the bridges saying 'The Villages' when interviewing back in 2019 with Valencia College for a writing instructor position. Was too far from 'home,' and my transportation wasn't that great. old 1996/7 Ford Escort LS, mom's car. Anyway, was surprised you mentioned Philadelphia!

Rusty, as you probably know that noise travels more when the air is cool and less humid. So this would make the morning noise more noticeable. I enjoy your videos. Rusty I appreciate your kindness in answering Ms Dorothy Jones question. I being African American have asked this very same question and my reasoning is not that I want to separate and live in a all Black community. I want to know if I will see other African Americans at the events, or walking around ect. As I watch any of TV videos I do not see African Americans and I would say this is what Ms Dorothy Jones has noticed as well. I personally just DO NOT want to be the only African in the community. Forgive me but it’s a safety measure or precept I was raised with. Hope this gives you alittle more perception. Thank you for all you do😊❤

Always love your respectful responses - I do not share that level of patience - for example it’s a good item on your purchase check list to understand the nuances of your neighborhood but given the cadence of transition/change in the Villages - whatever the color, religion, race, etc of your neighbor - it’s going to change in the blink of an eye because of folks tending to move 3 times, die, rent, whatever …. The pickle ball courts, nightly music and interstate are a constant but your neighbors are not going to be your neighbors for long. It would not be an item, high up on my checklist. Hope your continued move goes well

We close on our house in St Catherine tomorrow! When first learning about The Villages we were concerned about being surrounded by really old people (we are 55). But after spending a week doing a Lifestyle visit, our worries subsided. Highly recommend the Lifestyle visit, very informative and by the end of the week we put an offer on the house we are buying. Like you mentioned, generally speaking, the further south you go, the younger the demographics. Looks like we'll be St. Catherine neighbors!

On another channel on the Villages they listed several complaints that they have heard. One of the big things was that there were VRBOs in the neighborhoods where people only come for the weekends, etc. It really disrupts residential neighborhoods when there are VRBOs. I live in Hawaii so there have been laws passed as to where they can be. A few of the others include noise coming from the bar areas and golf carts going too fast on the paths. Apparently, the speed limit is 21 mph; however, people change their carts to go faster. Also, if you go there for golf, you may not get a tee time in the busy season.

I've lived here for almost seven years and I'm a 55 year old Democrat that doesn't golf. Lol The Villages has been a Republican stronghold (Both Trump and Desantis came here) but I feel it's slowly changing as more of Gen X starts to move in. There is a Dem club and plenty of Independents. Not to mention most people aren't openly hostile even if they are hyper political. I hope you are enjoying your move and thank you for the videos.

Hey Rusty. Just a quick comment about Blacks living in the bubble. As you pointed out, the people who live in the community are older adults, not kids that often are involved in crime or violence. For the vast majority of people who are fortunate enough to reach retirement age, they really want to enjoy life while healthy. They are not the usual numbskulls that want to cause trouble. So skin color or politics or religion really doesn't matter to most older people. Not everyone of course, but most.
