I have been in a new house in Deluna for about 6 months. I'm still trying to sell my house in Englewood Florida and so to this point I'm not getting real social. The Villages are what you make of it. If you want to be social you can find things to do and if you don't you don't have to. I bought a Veranda because I have two small dogs and needed a fenced yard. You are either going to have to get a villa or veranda. I love the privacy of my veranda. And about the retention ponds I am surrounded on two sides with ponds and retaining walls. I have watched the heavy rains and how the water drains away to the open space here. I think they do a brilliant job of moving the water around and I am not really concerned about flooding. I recently moved in with my daughter due to a “lifestyle change so i’m in the process of decluttering. It’s hard for me to get rid of stuff that I know I could use, but it needs to be done. I’m sorry about your mom. I lost mine about 15 years ago but it seems like only yesterday. Youve done an amazing job with your beautiful new home. Always take time out to stop and “smell the roses”. Rusty, i enjoy your videos. We have a Mossy Oak model home in DeLuna. The sounds travels so easily through the house between rooms and it is annoying to say the least. During your video you mentioned that you were going to address sound issues in the room you record in. How are you going to do that? I would like to deaden the sound waves traveling throughout my house and thought I could do whatever you do. Once you determine how you are going to address the issue (I assume insulation between your walls) please share what you did. How much it cost? How effective was it? Thank you.

Hi Rusty, thank you for all your informative videos and all the pertinent information about the Villages, I wanted to ask you if you have noticed any difference in the security in all the outdoor facilities, I have noticed that this year I have not been ID in most of the outdoor facilities and last year I was asked to show my ID most of the time, I was also informed by someone else who just moved down that they were also not asked for ID, just figured I would ask you to see if you have noticed, I figured it might be because a shortage of workers.

The postal folks are great--especially those that post updates to FB about mail being delayed or reminders to get your mail, etc. Regarding electric golf cars--they are great and since even driving to Spanish Springs and back is not 70 miles, you have more than enough.. and just charge when you're at home. It goes 22 mph and can pass any number of smelly gas cars if they're going slow and you have that "heavy foot" :)

I have a tough decision to make. I turn 61 in July and currently rent a place in downtown Austin TX. Somedays I feel like the oldest person in Austin as the median age isa 32. I am a musician and a hippie so dig the young vibe. But it's too expensive to pay $2500 a month rent to rent in Austin looking to move and buy a home. . Just wondering if there is a decent size of younger "retirees". I am also an avid chess & poker player so wondering if they have Texas holdem poker games going on every night. My suggestions...Call the sales office and ask if the Trolley tours are running once again. If yes, take as many Trolley tours as you have time for. Go into one or two of the Regional rec centers like Eisenhower, Rohan, Mulberry Grove or Colony Cottage. Visit the Fenney Nature Trail or Sharon Rose Wiechens Preserve.

Also, drive the golf cart. If you get lost, pull over onto the grass and take out The Villages map. I bet within 5 minutes someone will stop & ask if you need help.

Lori, there are homes that have fenced back yards. Certain Villas have a 6 to 8 ft wall at the rear and 6 ft vinyl fences on the sides between you and your neighbors. All Verandas have fenced/enclosed back yards, again with a wall at the rear and vinyl fencing on the sides. If you have "a view" on either of the home types mentioned, you'll have that metal (rot iron type) fencing instead of a wall. Hope that helps.

You seem to have a good grasp of how the retention pond/water system works. Groups from all over the world have come to The Villages to study the system, as it performs especially well during and after a tropical storm/hurricane. The northernmost areas may experience a bit of standing water here or there, but it's very minor compared to the coastal areas of Florida. I would add that the ground between homes is usually shaped to form a gully (hard to see due to the grass covering), so that the water will run there, then into the streets, then down the storm drains.

Rusty your info on the retention ponds were a eye opener for myself. I was wondering about that question myself. My father lived in the Village of Orange Blossom and the changes in my opinion are really amazing. I know you hear it all the time but I have to thank you for all the updates, information, and entertainment. Where seriously thinking about relocating from Long Island NY down to hopefully to southern areas south of 466? Keep up the good work hopefully we will meet up some day?
