His song, Night, is lifted from the aria, Mon coeur s'ouvre à ta voix in the opera, Sampson and Delilah. The original aria is for mezzo sopranos, and it's one that they love to sing in concerts, because it showcases their abilities. Not all mezzo's can hit the last note - electing, rather, to modulate. (Elina Garanca does this, for example.) The required vocal range for Night is actually broader than that of the original, and Wilson hits all the notes. Even though it was not his usual style, it was a very impressive demonstration of what the man could do.

I learned of his existence from a kids commercial. I don't remember what it was selling, only that Jackie Wilson's voice was used in it. Then The Jacksons covered "Stop Doggin me Around" Then I had to know who this Artist was! That's when I came across an article about his being in a nursing home, and how he died there, poor, and alone. Give those who you love their flowers now while they can smell them! He had a stroke on stage while performing, and the audience thought it was part of the act. The oxygen was cut off from his brain and it made him a vegetable. So very sad 😭

elvis could reach these notes. in fact, he talked about jackie wilson.

Personally, I don’t think Elvis’ voice was as strong or could climb as high as Jackie’s. Not too many had Jackie’s range. Roy Orbison had a much nicer voice and more range than Elvis.
@snowberryYT2 жыл бұрын
@@GoldFinger34 Elvis couldn’t go as high as Jackie Wilson could, but he could go significantly lower. As for power, Elvis is the obvious winner in that regard.
@GoldFinger342 жыл бұрын
@@snowberryYT not even a close comparison, Elvis was by far the bigger superstar, but Jackie’s voice is unmatched by his peers. I am sure there are some operatic singers that could match, but his contemporary peers cannot come close to his range. IMO, I think Roy Orbison and Ray Price along with Roy Hamilton had greater range than Elvis Presley. Not greater range than Jackie however.

As I noted in a reply to another comment here, Jackie had the advantage of Billy Ward as a vocal tutor. Also, he developed habits, thanks to Ward, such as practicing scales regularly and observing periods of vocal rest. Eventually, Jackie and Elvis became friends after admiring each other from a distance. When Jackie was shot and seriously injured in NYC mid-career, Elvis sent flowers, but the two had not met at that point. Both singers had spectacular voices, although I definitely think Wilson’s was stronger and stayed strong throughout his career. As to operatic qualities, the great opera star, soprano Kiri te Kanawa, once shocked an interviewer who ask her who had the most beautiful tenor voice she had ever heard. The interviewer expected her to say Pavarotti or Domingo or the lesser known Aragall, all of whom she had worked with. Her response: “The young Elvis Presley.” (There is no evidence that she was familiar with Wilson.) The young Elvis had a lovely voice, but my personal favorite is Jackie, who sang such a variety of music, and sang it all beautifully.
