Just a reminder that a NOT GOOD isn’t necessarily worse than a low numbered score. A NOT GOOD can be anything from a legitimate 0 to a disappointing 4. Fantano giving something a NOT GOOD basically just means that he isn’t taking said thing seriously, for a myriad of reasons. Hence why it shouldn’t be seen as the end all, be all, and why people should rather listen to what Fantano actually has to say instead of deriving their judgement from a single phrase or number Edit: Btw, I‘m not trying to criticize OP here. I‘m just saying this in general. As a reminder for anyone else who might stumble on this comment, not to make any rash assumptions based on something as simple as a number… I mean, evidently, it didn’t work, but oh well

@@KeDe1606 Exactly. Fantano has also said that he gives NOT GOODs to albums that had no chance of being good from the start, or albums he never expected to be good in the first place. From the first snippet of “WOMAN’S WORLD”, it was pretty clear that Katy Perry’s album was doomed to be awful, and the subsequent singles proved that even more. Versus with this album from a band that Fantano actually likes, and had high expectations for. Given Fantano’s explanation of what a 0 vs a “NOT GOOD” is, it seems like Katy should have gotten the rating and the Voidz should have gotten the actual score. Just an observation.

I think this one will grow on me. I admit I was underwhelmed at first. I started to sense an overarching theme of sadness at losing his family and comparing himself to his father. The more I listen, it sounds more intimate and vulnerable than disorganized

If you think this record sounds discordant or is mixed poorly or whatever dork shit you're on, trust me, you just don't get it. If that's you, you can change that by not sleeping for 36 hours, then taking 3-5 reps of 20 minute naps on the floor of a library bookshelf aisle, and then sprinting to make it to work on time through the polluted downtown of some once great, now dystopian, city with this blaring in your ears. It will be the best music has ever sounded. Moreover, the first couple listens I gave this only yielded a tamely enjoyable, but not too memorable, account, but ever since that frantic but mediational listening experience, everything has clicked. Seriously it's crazy how much each song has INFECTED my mind with resonant frequencies. And every single note that may have confused you initially the blunt transitions, the drowned vocals, the heavy use of autotune & synths will eventually reveal unique sublimity The fact people are shitting on this disc with such glee and amusement after what must obviously was 2 or 3 listens only strengths my conviction in this being a gem. 91/100 and easily the greatest NOT GOOD of all time

I cant listen to this Review. Flexorcist is one of the best Voidz Tracks ever made. All the Same is Pure melodic bliss. Square Wave is Classic Casablancas Catharsis. If I could make some criticisms, is that the track ordering is off and we've heard half of it already, so of course it sounds tired / played out already. Here is how I listen to the album. it sounds like a completely different record this way: 1) Overture 2) Square Wave 3) 7 Horses 4) All the Same 5) Flexorcist 6) Preserverance 7) Prophecy of the Dragon 8) WWTTOTBE 9) Spectral Analsysis 10) Walk Off

The f is this dude talking about...everyone is entitled to their opinion built square wave is amazing and one of those songs you can listen to over and over, prophecy of the dragon is so sick and really feels like a the voidz to me, flexorcist is one of the best songs julian has ever written imo not to mention how awesome that double feature video of those two songs was last halloween, spectral analysis is great, all the same is an all time favorite although that live version in Venice is a lil better but hey atleast we got it on an album. The only thing I wish this album had would probably be russian coney island instead of when will the time of these bastards end but to say this album is not good is so insane to me. Julian is and endless source of creativity who has blessed these ears since 2001 and I hope he keeps going.

I love this album for many reasons and some of those reasons are why it's being hated. I enjoy listening to the band experiment, the unpolished/unfinished sound, odd creative choices are some of the reasons why I even choose to listen to The Voidz. This band is something that you have to sit with and give the time to understand because there is quality content being presented in a fashion that is supposed to be interesting, not the perfect sound, not the way you want it to be, but interesting. I like that they ventured so far into left field that's what I wanted to hear on this album and what I want to hear on the next. But to each their own.
@TheLancer0113 ай бұрын
Sometimes I feel like they're gatekeeping their stuff with the choices they make. So many of the tracks I disliked on first listen, but then they grew on me quick. I think each track has its merits, but they do seem like b-sides which doesn't really come together well as a cohesive album. I don't care really in the end, because I'm glad to have more to listen to. Definitely not surprised by the response, tho.
@ZacTheFirst3 ай бұрын
Yeah the “unpolished” and “unfinished” sound I feel like is what makes Voidz so good in the first place. Their first and second album could not be ANY more different but they still feel Voidzy because they feel “thrown together”, in a good way

Had the same reaction initially. But after a second listen I honestly I think if they re-worked the mixes and dialed back The autotune on Julians Vocals AND got rid of the nightmare before christmas vocals on "When will the time of these bastards end" - It would be an absolute masterpiece. The harmonic and melodic weirdness of the songs is so interesting and there are genuinely beautiful and strange choices. The Mixes Chico... They never lie.

C'mon, It's a mediocre album, but it's not that bad hahahahahahaha There are nice ideas that are underdeveloped and the production kinda ruins much of the album. Julian just needs to ease off the auto tune. I understand its a style choice and one the voidz have always gone with, but this album is so aggressive with it that it kills the vibe. Sounds like a kid downloaded a autotune app and just cranked everything
