In this video I give a more detailed overview of the Wadkin PP and what it is capable of doing. This video was requested by a viewer to showcase the adjustable mitre fence that is used around the protractor that is scribed into the table bed.

I agree with you about the best table saw ever, specially with the slider table extension. launched in 1959 to replace the PK , was actually a very modern designed saw at the time. The fence is known as a double mitre , because it has two parts but the PP only came with the front section and the back part was an optional extra. Great video, really like your machine videos , would love to see more of your wilson tenoner collection.

Thanks for the additional info. They certainly were a cut above. I will do a video in the coming weeks on the Wilson tenoner for you.

Great machine. Wadkin built them to last. Jack Forsburg does some videos on the wadkin pk if you're interested

They sure were. I have seen a couple of Jack's videos. He has a lot of Wadkin gear.

Incredible work of engineering genius. After seeing JackEnglish's social media videos on his PK, I purchased one from the UK and had it imported to the USA. I have had the pleasure of using it yet, hopefully soon. More to come. Thank you for creating this video and sharing it! Any chance can you copy those PP instructions and DM a copy?

Wow, that would have cost a bit. Send us your email, I will take some pictures of the manual for you.

It's called a Quadrant and when I bought my PP in the UK it came with a quadrant .Mine stays at 90 deg most of the time.

Thanks, I was having a brain fade. I just couldn't think of what it was called.🤣

Although the Americans tend to call that a quadrant in the manual, it's referred to a double miter although this video only shows the front miter. I believe the PP offered the back fence for the double miter as a special order only.

@jackEnglishmachines I'm pretty sure my old friend bought this one new, or close to it, but I only have the single mitre for it. Perhaps in Australia, the options were limited in comparison to the UK🤔

@@DTJoinery the double miter only came with the PK as standard equipment. There are a few changes to the PP but it is virtually the predecessor of the PK . in fact, early models had direct drive motors just like the optional motor, which was a little less tall, and made capable 5" depth of cut

@@DTJoinery I see that yours has the bearing arrangement, and the motor slung below. That option only increased the depth of cut by a half an inch. The good news was is that the magnificent bearings that were in the special motors for the PK were used for the arbors. Although the PK did have a special arrangement of bearings to swing large, trenching heads, I'm not sure if the PP extended that exquisite arrangement. The tilling flask no longer tilts out of the saw, and it does come with a handbrake which the PK lacked but all of the extended tables including extended crosscut tables were available to the PK model which overlapped its production, in fact, the largest crosscut table I've ever come across was on a PK owned by Mark Roberts. Wadkins was notorious for making small changes across a particular range before completely re-fabricating new models. The fence I would say is slightly better because it uses a camlock to snug itself up in the dovetail way, this eliminated the problem with the original fence which could wear from sliding back-and-forth. Although I replaced mine with bearing bronze and it's perfect.

I wonder what that saw cost new? I found it so frustrating as an apprentice woodmachinist back in the mid 80's earning 60 bucks a week and wanting to buy my own machinery, yet the cost was insanely high, at least new. The cost of really good new machinery now is really low in relative terms! Fantastic old saw. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I don't know, if I see my old friend who bought it new, I'll ask him. I don't think it would have been cheap just given the size, letalone its complexity.

What is the throw on its slider? Is it long enough to do sheet goods or is it intended more for small parts? Thank you for this informative video.

It can just do a full 1200/ 4 foot sheet with the blade lowered, but it is very tight. It's more of an allrounder than a dedicated panel saw.

We have one at work! Lovely machine, do you know anyone who would have a original crown guard for one of these, here in the uk we had a law change where you need to have LEV above and below the table. My company got rid of the original guard for one with a dust port.
