I feel like this was the case for most fans of the series at that time. My brother and I played vanilla KH2 relentlessly when it came out (mostly me, but he liked it a lot too). I mean, we played vanilla KH1, fans PROBABLY played CoM on GB if they wanted to, then we played vanilla KH2. We wanted that next mainline story, we wanted to continue on as Sora. Square set us up to want the next game, which realistically speaking, would have been KH3. BB is right, why would we have just KNEW they were going to make a bunch of relevant and (still) fun side games? Elitists need to chill. Lol.

So I think it is important to make the distinction between “wait time” and perceived development time. I was in the group that thought that the secret ending to 2FM was for KH3, I fully admit that. I guess I had it in the back of my mind that every game afterwards was leading into KH3, so I was waiting for a long time, but it was not the forefront. However, I have had discussions with people who thought that KH3 was in development since right after 2FM, and those people are not correct. The people that say “wow KH3 is such a mess, it took 12 years to come out” are trolling.

This is the one that gets me. I agree in the scope of A person waiting for a specific title with specific production values and etc. We get the same kinds of differences in Final Fantasy, even tho there is no connected storyline. But saying "this game took 12 years to make and is shit" is honestly, objectively wrong. We don't know the full story on our end, but the gist of the details officially known are - The secret ending showed what people assumed was KH3 - in hindsight, the game was always intended to be a spinoff. a PS2 spnioff made by Osaka - According to the BBS ultimania, it got paused by Re:COM of all things. when they got back, they switched to PSP. I wonder how people would feel if BBS was called "Kingdom Hearts 0" or "Kingdom Hearts Origins" and it came out on PS2 as expected.

I would say I'd been waiting since originak KH2's English release. At that time the franchise was only 3 games long. We had 2 main series games and 1 smaller title on the Gameboy with Chain of Memories. Naturally many fans thought the next game would either be KH3 or at least 1 smaller title similar to COM before KH3 itself came out. Fast forward a few years and there's a mobile game, a browser game, 2 DS games, 1 PSP game, a 3DS title and then the remasters of the earlier titles with new content most people outside of Japan wouldn't have played and THEN there's another smaller PS4 title exclusive to the 2.8 bundle before 3 itself eventually came out. It's easy to look back with hindsight and realise how many smaller titles KH made to go "Why did you expect 3 so soon?" but in the context of post KH2 in 2005/2006 the franchise was much smaller and main series numbered titles actually made up the majority of the games released back then. I also didn't skip the smaller games, I did enjoy them for what they were, but I really wanted to experience the same "wow" sensation that KH1 and KH2 had on a more powerful system at the time. As much as I like BBS for example I don't think it had the same awe that KH1 and 2 gave. These were very new and weird crossover concepts with massive boss battles in the early 2000's when something like that hadn't really been done before.

Well it's still a valid complaint. Like BB said, we only know they're important because of hindsight. As a kid you're not going to think an important game in the series is going to come out on the mobile game when the others have been on the big consoles and unless you've been actively trying to keep up with the franchise with your own time, you wouldn't have known that until KH3.

That's the weird part in all this. BB talked about how people were waiting for KH3, but not what they were expecting. - If you were expecting what the KH2FM secret ending showed, we got that in 2010. - If you were expecting an HD game literally titled 3 but had no real expectations for the story (they just wanted to explore disney worlds in HD. Which is fine). they waited 12 years. - if you wanted resolution to all the plot hangers left , you probably waited 5-6 years, because I assume they played the "spinoffs" and were invested in either Terra/Aqua/Ventus or Axel/Roxas/Xion's stories. Something not touched upon in 2.
@Yurikon34 жыл бұрын
To be honest both quality and story-wise handheld titles were more or less spin-offish. I might approach this differently like others, especially after hearing Frustrated Jacob's essays, but honestly I don´t think stories in spin offs ever held that big overarching substance that not playing them would improve overall plot or understanding of main titles. Overall plot can be summarized in few sentences, but actual narrative is not that interesting that one loses much if they skip hand-helds. I didnt play CoM back then and intro of KH2 caused some headscratchs but nothing essential was lost. Actually intro-sequence, dramatically only good part of KH2, is even better when one has no idea what happened. If one didnt really care about Namine in KH2 they likely wont in CoM either. Days was more or less an afterthought while still nice little story as a manga. BBS might be only more substantical to look out but DDD can simply be summarized that villain used time travel to bring him and his cohorts back. Story didnt really do anything narratively interesting with Xehanort hiding his heart to other people so that is just technicality. People who enjoy 3 will enjoy it even without spin offs cause spinoffs do not really make most of the characters better. They are still mostly bland (That being said I think KH3 actually improved some org members who I normally didn't care about). One title can still be entertaining and character can be good character even if one hadnt played or seen rest of story (Once again KH3 actually has some better character moments which do not require knowledge of spin offs to be entertaining, let's hope Nomura improves characterization like that). Kingdom Hearts plot is already a mess so trying to know all exact lore points is waste of time. Story is actually pretty simple. Complex lore-points do not really need to be understood cause those wont bring anything narratively interesting context to the lot. Bland characters are still bland even if one had played spin-offs and bad execution of story is still bad.
@Yurikon34 жыл бұрын
@@bevvvy1374 Stories of spinoffs aren't even narratively that substantical or characters interesting that there is a need to struggle through them. The best way to enjoy KH's plot is just roll with what comes in anyway. If people who don't know who Terra or folks are and aren't interested in them that is more likely because they are too bland characters in the first place or the story just hasn't given that much reason to care about them. We don't know who exactly MoM is and he still is one of the most liked chars in the series, just some personality and charisma. No shoehorned backstories or demands for players to care without story doing effort are needed. Foretellers and dandelions however...

It's not hard to imagine people wondering that after KH2, and that is a form of waiting for the next game, whether or not it had been announced or hinted at or anything of the sort.

I played KH1 shortly after it was released, loved it. Then I got Chain of Memories since I actually had a gameboy advance, then of course KH2 dropped and I devoured that game, too. I was pretty invested in the story but, after 2 I felt like the story had more or less wrapped up if you think about it. After KH2; -All of the Organization was dead (back then it wasnt revealed that they could come back at all) -The 3 friends were reunited and happy together after Riku and Sora escaped the twilight realm -Xemnas was dead -Roxas and Namine were content with their fate Really, there was no narrative thread for me to really wonder about. Mickey's letter at the end didn't really pique my curiosity and basically made me think there'd just be new adventures for the characters. But the overall story for me, was already over by the end of 2. Then BBS dropped I think, I don't have a psp so I just watched a walkthrough of two of the three routes and I wasn't very impressed with the story and didn't care for anything that game introduced since it was all so wooden and awkward. Then 358/2 dropped and I was interested again, was actually curious enough to get a DS specifically for that game but once again opted for a walkthrough, I liked the story of that game a lot better but Xion's inclusion completely baffled me since it made no real sense to me and seemed like Nomura just wanted a girl Sora in his story? Dunno, at that point I just saw that the story and franchise became bloated with needless plots and boring characters when 2 already had a sufficient enough ending that didn't leave too much open aside from the promise of more cool adventures. So, yeah. That's when I fell off of the KH train. I did keep up with the lore and watched videos explaining it to me but it was more a side thing than anything else, I did however promise myself i'd get a ps4 if KH3 happened to drop on it. And I did! I was very disappointed by the game and now KH is more or less dead to me. i'll forever love KH1, CoM and 2 but anything after that I can't bring myself to care about. Guess this means I have been semi-waiting since 2 for KH3 but still kept up with the story and lore? Dunno, this is a pretty weird topic to begin with.

I guess it depends on how people look for the next game. Some people waited for KH3 since KH2 but since BBS/Days/Coded/DDD/02 came between they were still waiting for KH3. For me, what I was waiting for was the next Kingdom Hearts game, my "KH3" in this case was DDD (since that is the first game that pushes the story further, Coded story was more of a tease and even if I love BBS's story, and it was important, it didn't continue from KH2). I get why they named KH3 "KH3" but to me its like KH11.

I was waiting since original KH2. Sure I played Birth By Sleep, but at the time the new characters didn't click with me. And Dream Drop Distance came to a console I didn't own. So I basically watched Let's Plays off of these games that I was unable to play, while I waited for KH3 and hope it came to a console I would own. And it did. I barely got to play FM2 even and that was through an emulator, but I never got to the FM2 parts :D. Now you could say that my wait for more KH wasn't as long as I say due to watchings the story-bits from youtube. But I personally feel like I waited for the experience of playing KH again and experiencing how Sora's story continues.

SINCE KH2 GODDAMN VANILLA GODDAMMIT. I don't care _when_ it was announced. After KH2 ended, there was an ENORMOUS amount of hype. There was no question whether KH3 would come out or not. How could there NOT be a triple AAA follow up to the amazing GAMEPLAY & STORY that was KH2??? So I've been WAITING for KH3 to come out even BEFORE it was announced. I'd dreamed what it would be before they even showed footage of it. I played _every_ game along the way too, that's how long the hype lived within me.

Loved this vid. It's also so much more interesting to listen to the wide variety of answers than to enforce a "correct" answer! This wait really was experienced differently by everyone, moreso than 99% of other games I can think of. Why would you not want to have a nice conversation about it? I remember seeing the poll and thinking "Hmm... I'd say 2FM from the options here, but my real answer would be after BBS or DDD." I decided on the former. BBS was the game I was hyped for after 2FM (in part because of the hype secret ending, and in part because the reveal trailer made me go "Oh HELL yeah I am down for a Keyblade masters prequel"). All the games that came out after/around it were just bonuses. After BBS, I just wanted to be back with the gang again: Sora, Donald, and Goofy.

Ok, food for thought Let's say if the actual KH3 game that released last year was renamed into something completely different like Kingdom Hearts: Keyblade War or whatever. Would you still be waiting for a concept named "KH3" to eventually be released?
@darkassasin1114 жыл бұрын
If it was the exact game that shipped? Nah, and everybody would call it KH3 anyway. It wraps up the whole seeker of darkness plot and ties up most of the loose ends. If it were a game that didn't do those things, then I'd still be waiting for that big 3.
@poncho33264 жыл бұрын
@@darkassasin111 Adding to that, a lot more of work, ambition and money went into making KH3. We all have our opinions about how succesful that was, but I think everyone can agree that in terms of production value, the game we got qualify as the third "mainline" KH game. People could say the same thing regarding BBS and 3D, but I would disagree on the basis that these games have a lot less content and have weird experimental game design, even by KH standard. The KH 3 we got would have been recognized as a successor of KH 1 and KH 2 in these aspects whether it would have been called KH 3 or not.

The problem is the wait for KH4. As you mentioned they've made plenty of handheld games that are frankly too plot relevant to be considered spinoffs. In KH3 it was like they were more interested in setting up future plot hooks than resolving the current ones, but because of what happened after KH2 we have absolutely no idea if even a single one of these plot hooks will be a central part of KH4. More likely they'll lead into a handheld game with a plot that will lead into another handheld game with a plot that might lead into KH4. This along with Square's recent gaming practices, and KH3's... divisive story could not be more enthusiasm draining in regards to the wait for KH4.
@bevvvy13744 жыл бұрын
After KH3 I'm just done with the series. No more waiting. The story is not anywhere near good enough to warrant the amount of effort to experience it and the gameplay has just been gimmicky and underwhelming since 2. This series is just a neverending loop of waiting for the next game to find out what the ending of the current one meant.
@JohnWilliams-wl9px4 жыл бұрын
Any future spin offs won’t be as bad for the wait since nowadays the handheld market is basically dying. So, you won’t have to buy a single console just to play 1 game. More likely they will be released as just smaller price games (digital release game).
@Yurikon34 жыл бұрын
Handheld plots are mostly narratively bland and do not really offer much new perceptions if the main titles didn't evoke interests to know more about chars. KH, unlike most say, is not really a series' where investing too much time to know all plot points is worth it cause the plot never does anything substantically interesting with it. BBS might be only bigger one to look at but BBS trio wasn't that big cast of personalities that one loses much. I'm more interested in future titles which almost seem like spiritual reboot to actually do something interesting with the characters.

Agreed. Depends, if you thought 3 was gonna come after 2, it counts. Personally, I didn’t really think of waiting for it because I was playing all the other KH games at the time. I was young and I didn’t get 2 at release. Probably 2 or 3 years after in 2008 or 2009 I believe. I still beat 2 before 358 which I did get in 2009 or 2010. I feel I’ve been waiting years for it though. I distanced myself from any news about KH (well, I was always distanced, I didn’t even hear about KH3’s reveal trailer until months later). I feel I have been waiting since the reveal. I never saw the secret ending until I watched it on KZbin first.

The general reaction to this sort of question really highlights a huge sense of elitism in the KH fandom, particularly from those who are super into the story and like to sing its praises. One fact that seems to be ignored is that Kingdom Hearts has a wide array of draws. People come to this series for a myriad of different reasons. Some only like the combat. Some just want to run around Disney Worlds. Some just want to admire Shimomura's work. But if you happen to not care about the story, or dare criticise it, you're a fake fan without any faith. Because apparently, no one is hungry for weak sauce. The vitriol you'd get from considering the wait a 12 year one stems from the idea that you view the handheld games as filler, unimportant, or bad. Or that you're "too lazy" to play them and aren't sophisticated enough to steer away from your numbered, Hollywood sequels for even a second. Hate it. Fucking loathe it.

This is gonna be a bit of a lengthy comment but I sincerely hope you take the time to read and maybe respond. As a kid, my uncle was the one who introduced me to KH, starting with the first game. He was playing through KH2 at the time so I must’ve been around 7 or 8 years old so me being into Disney as a child I wanted to play it so badly. After playing through and completing KH1 I begged my uncle to let me borrow and play 2 because I was dying to see what happened next and when I played through it my parents sat down and watched me play thinking it would be just like the first. As soon as the game started I was completely lost as I’m sure most kids were at the time. I wasn’t at all invested in this Roxas character or any of his friendships or relationships at first until they started to grow on me as I’m sure that was the intent. When it got to Roxas’ final few days I still didn’t understand anything that was going on with sora and the gang or namine and the org 13, so I asked my uncle if he knew anything and he lended me his copy of CoM and told me to play that first. I really despised the game and was confused as to why they made a spin-off side game with important details in it until I actually played through it and realized that CoM was KH2 and actual KH2 was the third game. After playing through and finishing both CoM and 2 and giving the games back to my uncle, I remember my parents buying me my own copies of 1&2 so I replayed the games eagerly awaiting the next installment. One day I was watching Nickelodeon on TV and I saw heard sanctuary start playing from the TV. My eyes glued to the screen, it showed Roxas in the organization coat. My heart stopped and I couldn’t stop jumping and squealing as it showed the next installment would be 358 days on the Nintendo DS, which aside from my PS2 was my console of choice. All of the questions I had about Roxas at the beginning of two would be answered in this game. This was kingdom hearts 4 to me. I begged my parents to get it for me when it had released and of course they did and I put more hours into that game than any other game I’ve ever played aside from KH2 and Sly2 on my PS2. Once I finished it, I replayed 2 now that I better understood Roxas and I enjoyed it even more than I had before. From that point on, even as a child/pre-teen I understood all of the games were important. I never waited for KH3 because I already had KH3 and 4 and eventually 5 with BBS which I got via GameFly and never returned even after my account was canceled I loved it so much (it’s unfortunately my least favorite now but holds a special place in my heart) and KH6 with re:coded which I had to borrow from a friend because my parents wouldn’t get it for me at the time. I remember seeing the commercials for that one on TV as well. Same with dream drop, KH7. Seeing the commercials and saving up my allowance money to get it, finally buying it on release and playing through it with my cousin who also purchased it. After that though, I stopped keeping tabs on the series as much aside from all of the KH3 news and trailers. I was excited, more so than the other games before it but I didn’t feel like I cared as much if that makes sense? Eventually the HD collections came out and I played through all of the games for the millionth time until finally 2.8 came out. The first KH game I didn’t buy. I instead just watched a KZbin play through of 0.2 and didn’t care for the back cover movie. I didn’t care about the mobile game (which was JP and pc only at the time I believe). I just wanted KH3. I waited for so long until it finally released and I got it for my birthday. I remember crying while holding the case in my hands and my dad calling me a big cry baby me being an adult crying over a “kids game” I played through it twice, once with my girlfriend (at that time) and once with my little sister. I enjoyed every second of it (aside from arendelle) and thought it was amazing. Seeing all of the hate for it and people complaining about the story, I was one of the many overly defensive white knights of the series and it’s lore now having grown up with it and lived through all of the adventures. I eventually grew to realize that the people calling the other games after KH2 “side games” and “spin offs” with story in them, had never played them and actually thought that KH3 was the official 3rd installment when it was really the 9th (or 10th if you count chi/back cover). TLDR: we didn’t wait for KH3, we waited for KH9 (or 10) and nobody seems to point that out. The people that argue over the long wait for KH3 since 2 never understood what they were missing out on due to extremely poor marketing/misleading advertising, and the people who had played all of the games understood that there was never a true wait until after 2.8 had released because every game has been important to the overall narrative, like it or not. Sorry this was so long, I just really wanted to give my personal point of view on the subject matter. Thank you for reading and take care. Edit: That being said, yes Melody of Memory is KH 10 (or 11) imo because there is plot in it. A “side game”/“spin off” doesn’t have any story beats or important development imo. Perfect example being “Theatrythm Final Fantasy”

Part of the problem for me was that the side games plot kinda negated the endings of KH1 and KH2 by changing the villains' goals, making our victory in those games rather hollow in retrospect. It felt like we had somehow moved backwards while waiting for KH3. The handheld games could surprise you with decent story beats and gameplay but overall, both had slipped, although the story had arguably entered a general decline immediately following KH1. The franchise in general just seemed aimless and going nowhere. Unchained Key or whatever it's been called only exacerbated that feeling. I know people really love the handheld titles, and more power to ya if you do. But to me, they never felt like the next epic adventure, either in storytelling or in quality. And honestly, that pattern continued with KH3. I still love the series though.
@sofaris5764 жыл бұрын
I am not that much in to KH anymore. I dont have a ps4 so I just kinda droped out and got in to other stuff. But as a kid I honestly liked the story after KH1. It was mysterious and exciting and the villains where way cooler then in KH 1. I also never had a problem to follow the story. BBS was an amazing prequel to me in terms of story. I am not sure how I fell about the story now that I grew distant to KH but it was awsome as a kid.
@SuperNintendawg4 жыл бұрын
@@sofaris576 yeah as an adult the story really seems poorly planned, I had the same mental process. At first I loved all the worldbuilding from BBS, which I actually never played, I just read up on fan wikis about the story and watched some cutscenes. It was cool lore, but not very deep or consistent. I eventually realized how prone Nomura was to retconning, which made established lore feel less valuable because it could be changed at any time. It also demystified the original game. Bequeathing stands out as a stupid retcon, for example. Again, more power to you if you still like the plot of those games. Still, KH is fun. Running around Disney worlds might not feel very consequential but it's still hilarious to see Mickey Mouse talk about the Door to Darkness or watch Elsa hang out with Anime boys. There were genuinely delightful moments in KHIII like Tangled World, returning to Twilight Town, and doofy speeches about friendship. The music by Shimumura and co. is still phenomenal. The voice acting is still top notch (except for Riku in KH3). And Nomura continues to able to write bittersweet storylines that leave you yearning for more. I just wish he would stop with all this time travel, retconning, and ignoring Disney worlds entirely. Also, 358/2 Days had a genuinely great story, but that game is in the rear view mirror at this point. I'll make one more point: I think the writing surrounding characters that aren't S/D/G or the Sea Salt trio has really slipped. Riku was so cool in the first few games, now he just walks around waiting for Sora to advance the plot. Kairi in KH3 might constitute a hate crime against women. I'm exaggerating, but it's frustrating watching one of the ONLY important female characters be completely useless. This was the same in the past OFC but it really stood out in KH3. The gameplay on the other hand... well that ship has probably sailed for now, lol.

@@SuperNintendawg Hope you dont mind if I go on rambeling a bit. How should I put this? I have not played 0.2 and KH3. I have watched them on youtube but I have to play the games to get a feal fore the story. They are games and not movies after all. That is why I am not sure how I fell about the story. But one thing I can say fore certan KH is really fare from being one of my favorite franshises now. The 2 franshises I am currently absolutly love and adore are the Manga/Anime series "Made in Abyss" and the french adventure cartoon "Wakfu". In my opinion in terms of characters and story they blow KH completly out of the water. And that is why I am not all that motivatet to try to get back in to KH. I need a PS4 fore that and I dont have the money fore it so I rather just try out somthing else. Fore example I am in the process of watching "Girls last tour". Not the best show ever but very enjoyable. As a kid I was so obssest with KH that I always huntet after the console fore the next game even though I did not had much money. In hidside actully not to bad. While I did not like a lot of the handheld games thanks to my KH obsession back then I got to experience fantastic games like Kid Icarus Uprising fore the 3DS and Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy fore the PSP. But now I want to try out to make more of what I alrady have. Like my Netflix Abo ore the option to borrow Switch games from my local library. They even buy games fore me to borrow if I ask them. Now about Kairi well first I have to say I dont like Kairi as a character but that made me notice somthing funny. I think people, myself included are aprciative of a characters efforts and acomplishmeants aswell are more forgiving fore his failures when they like the character but are harsher when they dislike the character. Fore example Sakura Haruna. People dont like here and they keep calling here useless even after becoming a powerfull medic ninja and taking down an Akazuki member. And I noticed that with myself with Kairi. First lets talk pre DLC. Obejectively she has been useful. She turned Sora back from a heartless to a human in KH1, helped freeing Sora and Riku from the realm of Darkness in KH2 and in KH 3 she preventet Sora from fading away giving him the chance to save the guardians of light. She and Lea also keept Saix and Xion busy until reinforcmeant in form of Sora shows up. But I remember being dismissive of here myself saying stuff like how Riko from Made in Abyss does more and is cooler while being a fragile 12 years old girl with no super powers while Kairi cant do shit while having a powerful magical sword. After the DLC came out and Kairi kicket replica amored Xehanorts ass my reaction was like "Okay now she is bad ass but I still dont like here as a character". And I startet comparing here fight with that Replica of Armored Xehanort with a certan fight in the cartoon "Wakfu". In that fight 2 characters I like, Adamai a 13 years old Dragon child and his younger brother Grougaloragran, a not even a year old dragon baby, find themself completly unexpected in a confrontation with a really powerful villain. And well they get there ass kicked, they did not acomplished anything and Adamai ends up being a host fore a powerful demon, being an almost bigger problem in the season finanly than the main bad guy. Yet I found myself really apriciating there efforts a lot more the Kairis while being very forgiving of the dragons defeat. After all there still incredible young, especially fore beings that can become thausands of years old and there foe does have thausands of years experience and an super powerful magical artefact. Here is the link to the fight I am talking about although its quite spoilery fore the show: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpulppt8hbeHhZI Its just fun to observe myself in that regard. I dont think Kairi is all that useless but stil l dont like here as a character.

I didn't reply to the Tweet because I just forgot and had no real way to word it. But honestly yeah it's fine if people waited for KH3 after 2FM. Honestly, that is what I thought as well until I dug deeper and realized the secret ending lined more with the teasers for Birth by Sleep and that was the actual next "big" game they were teasing. After BBS was out, I was positive the next game would be KH3 and Sora, Donald, Goofy, Riku, & Mickey (and possibly Kairi) would be fighting Xehanort to stop his plans and finish the job Ven, Terra, and Aqua couldn't entirely do the first time. Nothing made me think more stories would happen or they'd be trying to find a way to bring back those three until Re:Coded and DDD happened. Eventually though, I hit a mindset of stop thinking when it will come and just said "It will happen when they are ready for it" which is how I currently feel about KH4. Anticipation is fine, but it will also come when they are ready. I don't like attacking people's opinions, but if something did bug me it was the feeling of spreading misinformation around the net about certain things. Don't take it the wrong way, not saying it isn't reasonable for people to think KH3 was in-development for 13 years even if they only started development by the E3 2015 trailer. Sorry BB, kind of hard to figure out the right words... but I do remember looking back at the secret ending of 2FM and seeing recent comments of people still thinking it was KH3 despite BBS already being out. I don't know, again not saying they are wrong. Just a bit confused and why they don't do research maybe? Hopefully you or someone can help me find the right words here. @_@

I would say I waited for 13 years for KH3, but I enjoyed the other KH games anyway. KH1, 2 and 3 are the only games that come out in the main consoles (not hanhelds) and star Sora, Donald and Goofy going through Disney Worlds both old and new with an interesting, good and fun combat system. Yes, I enjoyed Days, ReCoded and DDD, but none of them are "like 1, 2 and 3", all of them disapointed me in one way or another, even if I overall enjoyed them. (I played BBS much later, when 2.5 came out for PS3) Even then, the wait for KH3 felt long, 2012 (DDD) fo 2019, but, as a person who loved KH3 even before ReMind, it was worth it. The only thing I'm mad about is the absolute overdose of trailers that came out in those last two years that basically told you almost EVERYTHING about 3.

There is no wrong answer to the question, but I do feel that we were almost handheld through the process. S.E. said the next game would not be KH3, in fact the announced 3 more games (days, bbs and re:coded) so, we knew there was no kh3 yet. Once re:coded was out, we get the announcement for DDD, so we knew kh3 wasn't coming yet. We knew from the bbs secret ending about a BBS volume 2, so we knew about that as well. That means, no Kh3 yet. Once DDD is out, we were told the next game would be KH3, then we get an announcement trailer. Up until then, we were never in the dark about kh3. was there anticipation, yes but I knew not to wait, cuz we were being told constantly by the flow of games that there was no KH3 until there was. That's how I see it st least.

I was waiting after I beat kh2, which was probably around 2007 or 8. Back then I was a kid who didn't have internet access so naturally after being obsessed with the game for the following months I kind of just forgot about the series in general. So I stopped waiting at that time. Im not from a wealthy family so its not like going back and buying 1 was a possibility for me. Also when I did get on the internet years later I rediscovered kh on youtube. I saw the secret ending of 2fm and while I was starstruck my interest again faded given that there was no way I could play all the handheld games since I didn't have the consoles. I started waiting again after kh3d. My little bro had a 3ds when I was in late middle school and I used his ds to play it. I couldn't wait for kh3 at that point. Then came the kh3 trailer which hyped me the fuck up. So I waited on and off as my interest peaked and faded due to various reasons. I got a ps4 mainly to play kh3. While I'm highly critical of kh3 I think it's worth the wait, money, and time I spent on this series.

My hype into kh3 started with dream drop distance but one time (since I was a kid) I thought DDD was supposed to be KH3 just becuz the title was Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. Before 3DDD I just viewed kh as a series of fun adventures to play on gba and ds emulators easily. I was using youtube to experience the original ps2 games through lets plays. I remember liking slyfoxhounds kh2 lp.

Big brain question: how long have people been waiting for KH4? After KH3? After Re:mind? If we get some "medium budget" (for Square) ARPG spinoff in a few years would that count? But I think that's what implicitly starts all these arguments. if you say you waited for X years when Y games came out between that time, it's implcitily saying that that game "didn't count", "wasn't good enough", or a vairty of other things that dismiss that existence. So it devolves into "so you don't like Y game?". And we all know how those arguments end. BB puts it best in the beginning of the video.

The implication is that they (being those who refer to the wait as being 12 years long) were only concerned with when the next numbered, console title would release, disregarding the handheld games as filler.

I've been waiting since kh2, like sure it wasn't announced then oh well, but I didn't get the secret ending because I was in elementary school, I watched it with Japanese subtitles on KZbin and at the time I thought bbs was going to be kh3, obviously it wasn't and now we know why Ventus looks like Roxas, but just because I was playing the side games didn't mean I wasn't hoping for 3 to eventually come

I never waited for KH3. Because I knew it would exist, and i'd ignore KH until it did. Wasn't even a present thought in my mind. Forgot it even existed. You can't wait for a game under such circumstances, which is great for me because it's a lot less agonizing.

A major talking point that could have been brought up here (especially to Murph 😂) is the possibility of Kingdom Hearts 4. After playing through KH3, KH3 Re:Mind, and the Secret Episode, do you believe there will be a KH4 sometime in the future? While Re:Mind did indeed wrap up the story of KH up to this point with a very messy bow (still leaving questions unanswered), Secret Episode left the future of Kingdom Hearts to be wide open for further expansion. This is not to say that KH4 is inevitable, but with everything that was shown within Secret Episode, it is very much a possibility. Couple that with the fact that Melody of Memory looks to be expanding upon where KH3 officially left off to some extent, and the fact that the mobile games of Union X and Dark Road are still being added to, it is not unreasonable to believe that eventually, KH4 may become a reality (in like 15 years). I am expecting it, but until then, regardless, we have to wait and see where the future of the franchise goes.

Yeah I’ve totally been waiting since the end of kh2 vanilla. I loved the games so much I continued to play the side games. However I feel like KH3 was my Phantom Menace. The further I get away from it the more I feel let down after all those years of waiting. Both gameplay wise and story wise it failed. What really bugs me is fans who then say you’re not a real fan if you didn’t love it. The kh3 I wanted as a kid still doesn’t exist.

Jason Nguyen honestly my expectations were lower for bbs because I played it as a PSP game. So no not really. Its fine acting like it was some big betrayal in retrospect. But it was a simpler time and I enjoyed the plot for the most part. I believed at the time that it was just the side team. Surely KH3 will be developed by the ones who did kh2. How naive I was
